Japan Loot!

G’day! This is my first post on MyFigureCollection and I decided it should be a loot post, since I just came back from a wonderful trip to Japan and I bought quite a bit. I’ll preface this post by saying that I’m hoping I will, at some point, be able to review all of these figures individually. Before going on the trip, I never expected these figures to be so cheap and plentiful. I decided that I’d go in order of what I purchased. Also, I apologize for any inconstancy in the quality of the photos. Anyway, without any further ado, let’s get started.

First up we have the Princess of the Crystal Nendoroid from the series Mawaru Penguindrum. Mawaru Penguindrum figures were EVERYWHERE in Japan, especially Good Smile Company’s 1/8 Scale Figure. That was easily the most common figure I saw. I got this particular Nendoroid on my second day in japan and it was so cheap (a mere 1980 Yen) that I simply couldn’t resist. It’s a good thing because I don’t think I saw it any cheaper.

Next up is the Yukiko Amagi Nendoroid from Persona 4. She was also quite a common figure, but once again, never saw her for cheaper than what I got her for (1980 yen. Her price had been slashed from 3150). I’m a very big Persona fan, so this purchase was a no-brainer for me.

Along with Yukiko, I bought one of my most longed for figures: Bandai’s/D-Arts Thanatos from Persona 3. I’d wanted this figure for quite sometime, but could never find it, even online. I knew that this was going to be an instant buy as soon as I saw it. I got him relatively cheaply (For 4250 Yen. Saw him for as low as 3500, but I’m happy with my price).

Now keep in mind my next 3 purchases were from a second hand shop. Personally I’m not a snob or elitist when it comes to second hand figures and I know that Otaku (I use that word lightly) usually keep their figures in pristine condition. But I digress. The Itsuki Koizumi Figma, from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was my purchase. I managed to find him a couple times throughout the trip, which I was not expecting given how old of a figure he is. I got him for the price of about 3400 Yen, although I did see him around for about as cheap as 2700. Right now as I look at him in his Hare Hare Yukai pose with a giant FABULOUS smile on his face, I know that he was worth it.

In addition to Koizumi, I bought two Nendoroids. Light Yagami from Death Note was the first. Not a figure I was expecting to find given his only Nendoroid number 12, but I ended up finding him and for a ridiculously cheap price (I don’t remember exactly but I think it was around the 1500 yen mark). I never did see him for the rest of the trip either, so I’m glad I got him when I did.

Moving onto another Persona 4 Nendoroid: Teddie (AKA Kuma). Not much to say other than I got him for a very cheap price, similar to Light.

The Next two figures I bought together are both Nendoroids (I swear these are the last Nendos!) The first Nendoroid was Ciel Pantomhive from Black Butler. One big motivation for me buying him is I’d get some accessories for my Sebastian nendoroid. He was reasonably priced around 3000 Yen. I find it interesting that Both Ciel and Sebastian were quite uncommon Nendoroids. This is surprising to me given how popular Black Butler is. I only saw a Sebastian Nendoroid (who I already own) once and he was ridiculously expensive.

The final Nendoroid I bought was Totori from the video game Atelier Totori the Adventurer of Arland. I like the game quite a bit and I think her Nendoroid is just too awesome not to own. I saw her a couple times, a little cheaper but I’m very happy with this purchase. I bought her for somewhere around the 3200 Yen mark.

Now we move onto the more, shall we say, grand and expensive figures. The next 3 are going to be figures from Persona 3. The first being a Makoto Yuki figure for the release of Persona 3 the movie #1. You may also know him as the Protagonist, MC or Minato Arisato. Makoto Yuki is his official name, however. Anything relating to Persona 3 I have a very strong inclination to buy since Persona 3 is one of my favorite games of all time. And at the price of 2980 Yen, I couldn’t resist, given that the only other figures I knew of him were very expensive, quite old and not as grand as this 1/8 scale figure by HappyKuji.

Next up is the Kotobukiya 1/10 Akihiko Sanada scale figure. I saw this figure twice. Got him the second time for the fairly reasonable price of 5,700 Yen, 2000 Yen cheaper than the first time I saw him.

Next is the Kotobukiya 1/7 Mitsuru Kirijo Scale figure. This figure is actually second hand and unlike the other second hand figures I bought, you can actually tell. Not to say it’s in an atrocious or horrible condition, but on closer inspection, you can tell. I got her for 8000 Yen, which was a little much, but nothing insane.

My last purchase also happened to be the biggest and most expensive figure I bought on the trip. In fact it’s the biggest and most expensive figure in my whole collection. This is one of those figures that I never thought I’d own, but when it’s the only one you’ve seen, and you see the price tag that’s actually reasonable, it’s hard to resist. By G.E.M and MegaHouse, it’s the 1/8 scale figure of Emperor Lelouch Vi Britannia. I had been debating weather or not to get the emperor figure or just settle with the zero figure, who I saw twice during my trip. I decided to go all out, however, because if didn’t get the emperor figure then I never would. This figure was a whopping 12,000 Yen, but given its probably twice as expensive to get it online, I’m okay with that.

I guess I’ll quickly go over the stuff that I bought that isn’t figures.
• PS Vita TV
• Project Diva f (I already own F by the way)
• The art of Penguindrum
• The first 3 volumes of the “Attack on Titan” manga (In English).

Well, I hope you enjoyed my look at all of my loot from Japan. I hope to start writing reviews on this site, so until then. Have a great day. Uh-bye-Bye

DogStar (3 years ago) #1886865Awesome you managed to get Koizumi. I wish I had him and Kyon. Really cool you got yourself a PS Vita TV. I don't own a PSVita cause not much software but Japan has loads of software. Good if you can read and understand Japanese.

Koizumi was certainly not a figure i was expecting to find, let alone multiple times. I think I saw Kyon as well. I know for a fact that I saw his "disappearance" Nendoroid. I was amazed at how big the vita is in Japan with so much stuff.

I highly recommend getting a vita. I don't really get people saying it has a lack of games. I think it has plenty, and great ones at that.

gamergibbons (3 years ago) #1886404Awesome loot! I saw that you got the PS Vita TV, how is it? I already have an imported version of Project Diva F, and I was wondering how it played on the Vita TV. I know it's been ported on PS3 already, but I was curious to see how well the Vita TV holds up.

Thank you! I haven't had the chance to test it out yet, but as soon as I do, which will be soon, i'll let you know ASAP :)

UPDATE: Tested it out. Console itself works fantastically and looks swell. For some reason Project Diva: f isn't on the list of compatible games. probably cause they want people to buy F instead(?). Tried out Persona 4 Golden, but didn't work. However i've heard from multiple people it does. Maybe cause I have a EU cartridge? I don't mind importing an NA cartridge if it'll let me play though. Don't quite know, but i'll keep at it. PSP games work fine with it.

OroHaku (3 years ago) #1886599Very cool! How did you end up fitting everything in your luggage? Did you throw out/leave things in Japan to make room?

Had to buy an additional suitcase as well as using some spare space in the luggage of the people I was travelling with, as they were kind enough to let me. It was a little difficult, but it all got home in the end :)
