iReview: Nanami Chiakin/a

Hello. I decided to do a review on PHAT!'s figure, Chiaki Nanami from the Dangon Ronpa series. I pre-ordered from AmiAmi and, from them, her shipping was quite expensive. It was ¥4000. I usually save extra, so it wasn't that big of a deal to me, but from the comments page it through a lot of people for a loop. Anyway, on to the figure.

The Box:

It follows the same pattern for Kyoko's box, but in pink. Target, scale, mascot cut out, pictures on the side. I'm pretty indifferent to boxes. As long as the figure is safe, I'm good.

Nanami:

I found her to be a cutie. Her paint job isn't spectacular, but as a novice collector, I was pleased. Her expression is quite cute and aloof, and I enjoy the gradient on the eyes. Her little hair clip is also a cute touch.

The details on her are nice and consistent. The logo on her sweater, the little buckle on her shoes. All of them are quite nice. I know some were curious on the underwear color given the item in the game, but they're just a simple pink. Her little backpack is also just fine to me. More images of her are below the spoiler.

Monomi:

She's simple, similar to monokuma that's found with the Kyoko figure. I found a small mark on her head, but I wasn't too concerned with her to begin with since Nanami takes up most of the focus. Still, she looks fine, though mine doesn't hold the controller quite right. A small complaint.

This figure actually comes with a few little accessories. It comes with a TV, a game system, and two controller. The game system it's self has to be connected to the figure's controller, which gives you control of how the cords flow. The TV, of course, is set in place with it's stand, same for the system it's self, which is attached to Nanami's leg. The pegs are pretty well hidden, so it gives a nice illusion that they're actually being held and are just floating along with the characters.

Base:

http://i.imgur.com/IIHawTAl.jpg

It's a simple base really, but it's a great way to solve how to hold her up. They could of easily just made it a plastic circle with some pegs, but Monokuma makes it a stand out piece. I really like how much attention bases are getting these days.

Issues:

I had no problems connecting my supports to the monokuma base. I had no problem connecting the game or controllers. But I could not get Chiaki to fit on her stand. I pushed, dipped the tip in hot water, used a blow dryer, but I could not get her in. When I thought I had, I realized it was just leaning on her sweater, which made me very nervous. Either of those could of snapped because of that. I eventually had to get some scissors and shave it down. After a minute or so of shaving, testing, and then shaving again, I was able to fit it in easily, and still have a snug, tight fit. The tip now looks a bit ugly, but it's hidden. Still, it feels like something that should of been addressed, and I say this after reading a few comments about users having similar issues. It being just me is one thing, but her not fitting her support seems to be a common issue.

Overall:

I like her a lot. She's one of the most creative figures I have on display. Her shipping can be quite high, but I think she's worth it. I think she's a cute figure and comes with great little details that manage to make a pre-posed figure feel a little more alive.

Hope you were able to enjoy this review.

autumnlucks (2 years ago) #2924519A really nice figure. It's a shame that there were some connection issues to the base, but glad you were able to still enjoy the figure.

Once she's put together, she's fine. Everything else is pretty easy.

I'm glad they did that, but I wish they included it with the box's instructions since I ended up shaving it down a little. But following their instructions did work. I went back to her and adjusted it, but now I'm not sure how much is instructions and how much is me adjusting the base.

Hopefully others will know about it and will find it less frustrating.
