Custom Jason Nendoroid

For my second tutorial I’m going to be going over my custom Jason Nendoroid. I will try and make this as coherent and easy to follow as possible. But if you have any questions be sure to ask and I will be glad to address them. :3

Now onto the materials list, or at least the tools and materials I found I needed:
Tamiya putty white (I don't know if it matters on this but this is what I had on hand)
Standard Yellow-Grey Milliput
White LaDoll Premier light weight stone clay (Odd that I’m using stone clay right? Well you’ll see what it’s used for later)
Crafting knife (I don’t know what the name of the blade I used is called but it has a very small flat edge, although I’m sure a dremel tool will work even better)
Wooden Sculpting Tools Set (Although I'm sure the plastic or metal ones would work better to keep the putty from sticking so much)
Metal file set (for smoothening any sharp edges and if you don’t have a dremel tool)
Amazing Remelt (For mold making)
Alumilite Slow Set 7 (For casting pieces from other Nendoroids)
Black acrylic paint
Red acrylic paint
White acrylic paint

Primer (I think any kind will work for this. So long as you are comfortable using it then by all means. :3)
Moss Green Diorama Spray (I will go over later what this was used for. :3c)
Clear coat (Gloss or Flat)

Now that the materials are all out of the way I can now start diving into making Jason.

I should mention that I didn’t really have the intention of making Jason from the start, but while I was just testing out the stone clay I came to discover that it made a really nice mask by mistake. So I didn’t really have a plan on how to make him. So I stumbled through making him. Lol So with that out of the way here we go! xD

Here you can see me making the mask on a blank head that I made. The back of the head is made from the stone clay, the same material as the mask. :3
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7074_zps4qlm3sox.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7075_zpssqzcnvpl.jpg
(Don’t mind the body, I needed something to put the head on to see how it looked and that was the closest body I had at my disposal. Lol)

While the clay was still soft I poked holes in the mask of where the holes in the actual mask are located. I didn’t do that great of a job placing them so you don’t have to point them out. Lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7076_zps6pxs7xez.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7077_zps5yhb39zq.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7078_zpszks19g9w.jpg
Now as you can see the inside of the mask took the shape of the face really well, which surprised me personally. Lol but that was a welcomed surprise. Lol

Once the stone clay was dry I was able to draw out where the red marks were on the mask with a standard pencil.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7079_zpszp7noslh.jpg

Next I drilled out the eye holes as close to the actual placement of the eyes on the face plate as I could. I messed this part up quite a bit and I had to fill it in with stone clay and try again later. But after about 3 attempts I finally got it close enough to where I was satisfied with how it was. Lol http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7082_zpsjzerierb.jpg
I then colored in the red marks.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7083_zpsnzgjrn75.jpg
Not bad if I do say so myself. Lol

The next part I was contemplating on whether or not to mention this, but in the end I thought what the heck, why not. It was a failure, but my failure might inspire some of you to try for yourselves. Lol

I tried making Jason’s body using the same stone clay, but it didn’t come out anywhere close to how I wanted. Lol but I tried and that’s what matters I think. Lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7089_zpskdknvfbt.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7093_zpst0sepozm.jpg
As you can see the legs came out looking like balloons and the upper body looked way too much like a minecraft body. So I scrapped this idea and went looking for nendoroid parts I could use to make molds from. Lol

I was able to find a Nendoroid that had plain jeans to make a mold from. As you can see the casted part came out fairly nice with minimal bubbles and little flashing.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7315_zpsnzfsjgix.jpg
(for those of you curious, that’s Umi’s lower body from the training version.)

With the lower body casted I went looking for an upper body I could use and I was able to find one that I thought would work.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7322_zpsckmtyftj.jpg
(again for those of you curious, that’s Pokemon Red’s body. I should also mention that the mold didn’t damage the nendoroid parts.)

Here I’m test fitting the upper body, lower body, and the head all together. Unfortunately I used a little too much force and broke part of the upper body off. ;-; but I was able to fix that, I’ll go over that part later. :3
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7323_zpsj3jrbdkc.jpg
As you can see the feet look was wrong for someone as menacing as Jason. So I went on the search again, but this time for boots. Because Jason isn’t Jason without boots, or at least that’s how I feel. Lol

I was able to find boots that I think would work perfectly. Stormtrooper boots!? How can those boots not work for Jason. Lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7327_zpsbk5sbxqe.jpg
I had to cut off the little feet off and place the newly casted boots on the lower body.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7328_zps549ymbqp.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7329_zpsvweloxvp.jpg
You can see that I used the white putty to keep the feet in place. I used white putty because the plastic cement that I used never really dried and I was starting to get frustrated. So I went with a sure thing and used the white putty. A lot of you might be asking “why are you standing it up?” And I’ll answer that question right now. The reason was so that my little Jason can stand on his own without any help from a peg. xD I found this easier to do than to try and find a spare peg. Lol
And here he is standing. All on his own. :’D
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7330_zpsali4fyqt.jpg

The next step I went onto was the arms. I couldn’t use Red’s arms because he came with short sleeves and we all know Jason doesn’t wear short sleeves. Lol So I went looking again for arms I could use. Lucky for me I have a large inventory of nendoroids that I can use. xD
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7332_zpsspxkvuqb.jpg
I ended up using Link’s arms from the windwaker version. I pulled the arms from the mold a little early when it was still a little flexible. So what I did was tape the arms in place so that the parts would harden in the exact way I want them to.
Here he is all assembled to see how he’s turning out.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7333_zpsgtnnx4og.jpg
Not bad if I do say so myself. Lol
While I was working on him my Fundoshi set came in and I wanted to see how my Jason body compared to an actual nendoroid body and my Jason came out in the right proportion. xD
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7334_zps6t4elpwx.jpg
I do admit I was relieved that my replacing the feet didn’t make my Jason tower over other Nendoroids. Lol and if you didn’t notice I put white putty in between the top part of the arms that connect to the body. I know I should have made it an option to have multiple arms, but at the time I was still figuring things out and how to make it look cool, so optional parts wasn’t a thought at the time. Lol

Here you can see that I fixed the upper body. I used the milliput stuff to fix this, but I must warn you. This stuff is sticky as heck. So if you don’t want it sticking to other parts then I suggest using petroleum jelly, I didn’t have this at the time so I had to wait until the milliput got a little hard and dry and then put it in place. It was such a hassle fixing the upper body, but it was worth it in the end. lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7337_zpsnkrhmwmb.jpg

Now that the body is made it’s time to fix all the imperfections, mostly just fill in the bubble holes and sand it down to where it’s nice and smooth. Lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7344_zpsgg34c0fk.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7345_zps3vni6e1c.jpg
Here he is test fitted again. I tried my hand at drawing eyes and it was a few times till I got it looking how I wanted. lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7348_zpscnosezmh.jpg
Oh you might have noticed the new hole in Jason’s left hand. I decided to give him his iconic machete. Lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7349_zpsvjr2twok.jpg
Dang Jason couldn’t wait. So he ended up stealing Link’s sword instead. @0@!?!?!?

Well here is the body and mask ready to be primed.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7351_zpsrrimp4gz.jpg
And here they are primed. xD lol
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7352_zpsmghudx9p.jpg
I use very technical tools when working with Customs. Like here is Jason assembled and ready to be painted.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7355_zpsfqlxpjqi.jpg
Very technical instrument. ‘-‘ ,_, ‘-‘ ,_, lol

Here I am testing out colors for Jason.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7353_zpsovcmq1pd.jpg
I know not Jason body, but I would rather test on something than to mess up on the original and have to go back and clean it off and go back again. Lol
But after some trials I found the colors I thought worked well.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7356_zpseylk9s2k.jpg
First started with his jacket and boots.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7356_zpseylk9s2k.jpg

Next I went ahead and painted his hands, neck joint (which was casted into the upper body as well. Less parts as I see it. lol), and the border on his jacket.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7365_zpsgcxh5uvb.jpg
I used medium flesh tone, because the lighter flesh tone looked way too light to me. lol

Here I tried using a fairly regular blue.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7368_zpscav8f6b8.jpg
But as you can see its way too bright. Makes me think that Jason is ready to go put a hard days work in at some lumber yard. Lol So instead I went with a darker blue.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7370_zpsginyl93p.jpg
Makes him look more intimidating I think. Dark colors are for dark souls. @0@! Lol jk jk X3c

Here he is in his painted glory. xD But I’m not done just yet. I still need to go over and touch up some areas to make him look better.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7372_zpsbntygmlv.jpg

It was bugging me that Jason didn’t have his machete so I went and molded Link’s sword to make the machete.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7375_zpsh5qpzq8k.jpg
As you can see it doesn’t look like the sword and it’s because I took it out of the mold while it was still flexible and pulled it to one side. I taped it in place so that it would keep its shape. I then filled in the air bubbles with white putty and filed it down.

Now I went and made a mold and casted a couple of the upper and lower bodies just in case I messed up at any point after this.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7377_zpsfyype4do.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7378_zps16g9gzm7.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7380_zpslvdo1ha5.jpg
Sadly I could only make two extra bodies because by the third body it started coming out looking really bad. Which meant that my mold was losing its detail with each pour, but I was able to get a really good quality duplicate out of it so that will be my master parts for later on.

Next I will be showing you before and after images of the body sprayed with the moss effect.
Here is before, he looks nice and clean like he’s ready to go to work. xD
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7382_zpshg4qvwcv.jpg
But then he went mucking around in lake at camp and came back looking like this.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7383_zpslurknfid.jpg
I must say that the moss effect made Jason look all that much more menacing looking. xD

I went and painted the machete with steel paint and added some red to the blade to make it look bloody. xD
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7412_zpsmntf3dtf.jpg
I didn’t know this till much later, but it turns out that there’s an actual blood looking paint that someone makes, I forget the name of the maker, but it’s supposed to make it have a good bloody effect. :/ oh well. Next time maybe? Lol

Here is basically the final result in my Jason custom.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7428_zps6zosbe96.jpg
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7429_zpspguqsdcu.jpg
I used the milliput stuff again to make the straps and then once that dried I painted it black. xD
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/LilAtomicX/Custom%20Nendoroid/Jason/IMG_7433_zpsd2jjpmvc.jpg
This is how he came out. Not so bad I think. Lol

So this was my second custom that I finished. I'm currently working on my third and fourth customs right meow. If you want you can look up progress pics on my tumblr LilAtomicX10. I tend to post my progress a lot on there so if you're curious then by all means swing by. :3c

Maakie (1 year ago) #7117960I was hoping it would be this Jason, hehehe. Really like how this turned out! He's so cute! :D I voted for Edward Scissorhands btw! I'm so excited for his bishoujo!
Please do! I'm currently researching making molds for cosplay purposes and every tutorial helps! :)

Thanks! I'm glad you like how he turned out. :3

Now as for the mold. The remelt stuff has its limits on how large of a mold it can be. Lol but I'll try coming up with a tutorial. XD

LilAtomicX10 (1 year ago) #7040970But I found that most nendoroid parts require a two part mold which no one anywhere has tried using the remelt stuff for. ;-; but if enough people request it then I'll make a tutorial on that and show the process I use to make the mold. ^_^

GlassJewel (1 year ago) #7092370Great, I can't wait to see your next customized Nendoroid! Sorry but I have one more question: did you use any mold release on your master nendoroid parts? If so, how easy was it to clean off the mold release?

If you're using the amazing remelt mold stuff then you don't need mold release. @0@!!! All you have to do when you take out your molded parts is to wash them with water because sometimes they'll come out a little sticky. But water cleans that up real easy. :) but when I move onto the silicon molds and use mold release I'll be sure to put that down. XD

And I'm halfway done with my custom. Just need to figure somethings out. Lol

LilAtomicX10 (1 year ago) #7092146lol Thanks! xD I took a lot of pictures so that I could look back and see how far I've come and thought I might as well turn it into a tutorial. haha XD and I know a lot of bubbles stood out, but with the molding materials I'm using bubbles are gonna happen. :/ but I'm still glad you think it still worked for him. xD
And I'm looking into switching to silicon molds for my current project. that way I can warm up the mold and help discourage bubbles. lol but for now protyping will be using the Re-melt stuff. lol
And I molded the peg with the upper body. lol I found it easier to do at the time because I didn't have the right tools to make the round hole for the neck joint or the right drill to drill for the peg. :/ but I have the tools now, so I guess I could go back and modify it. lol

GlassJewel (1 year ago) #7092140Great tutorial! It's very informative and you took a lot of pictures too! Only thing is that a lot of the bubbles stood out after priming, but for a horror movie character like Jason, the rugged look suits him perfectly! One question, did you cast the neck peg separately from the upper body, or did you just kept the neck peg in the body when casting?

M-Linfa (1 year ago) #7040957Can I ask you if you have a good recasting tutorial ? I always wanted to duplicate some nendoroid parts for a custom nendoroid but didn't feel like buying a second copy of the nendoroid just for that one little part

Depending on the parts you are looking for you might wanna try this club and look to see if anyone has the parts you need.
CLUB #576
I only suggest this because the molding materials aren't cheap. Lol also there isn't a good recasting tutorial using the amazing remelt. There's a video on how to make a simple one part mold. But I found that most nendoroid parts require a two part mold which no one anywhere has tried using the remelt stuff for. ;-; but if enough people request it then I'll make a tutorial on that and show the process I use to make the mold. ^_^
