iWhat's this Touhou Thing?n/a

Since this year I'm exploring new things to add into the collection [So far got Figmas,Busou Shinkis, and now waiting on a Nendo] One thing I've always seen is some of the character artworks for this series showing up in my image board searches for a long while -I even have a small folder for some pics I've found mostly of Sakuya since she's the one who's caught my eye from this series since Maids are a MOE point for me for some reason-

I know nothing except that I've heard it's a game that's only been released in Japan that there's some fan translations out there.

-Don't all you Touhou fans answer at once!-

But I'd like to know more information on this series, I saw a comment on it in the Nendo Blog post I made that sorta piqued my interest...now comes the hard part.

I can't afford any Touhou stuff at this point after looking a lot of it up every so often I'd see the statues selling at crazy prices, and the Nendos look quite cute....

Now to possibly save another one from an addiction.....-it's a bad habit part of the thing of being an figure otaku and collector-

Sakuya so far is the one that's gotten my attention from this series....just a sucker for maids at times....

The others look cute....quite cute...but if I'm going to learn more of this series better to ask a Community that apparently has a LOT of Touhou fans here.

Should I even start with collecting this series?

I doubt my budget at this point if I can afford a Sakuya...I have seen the Nendo under $100 on Amazon but I don't want to risk a bootleg......

If you really want Nendoroid Sakuya, I found one that's somewhat cheap here: (ext link)

Not always. Fairy Wars is 12.8 and I would certainly consider it a bullet hell.

Other than the official Touhou games, there are a lot of semi-official and unofficial games of all kind (RPG, Fighter, Platformer, Puzzle, pretty much every genre).

Here is a (probably) complete list of them : (ext link)

There are even flash games, like this one with Flandre : (ext link)

Wayfinder (2 years ago) #1000110ZUN has said that he wants to keep Touhou a doujinshi work (and it very much is still), since that's the scene it originally spawned from. This means that he won't permit the taking his music, arrangements, characters, setting or other particulars and selling the resulting work outside doujinshi events or specialist doujinshi shops.
In other words, he doesn't want it to go commercial. It sounds strange, considering its following and size - but Touhou's still very, very much a doujin thing.

Oh, don't worry, I know. I just tried to simplify since I was on my break at work and didn't feel like typing all that :p You also said it better than I could have.

piratepapillon (2 years ago) #999973Doujins groups love this series which is why there's so much fan stuff. High price of figures is because all must be exclusive which is a weird rule from the creator since he kind of wants to keep Touhou in check and not let it expand too much.

Beani (2 years ago) #999996Sakuya is my favourite from the series. You just missed the rerelease for her Nendo but Manda usually has it for 2500-3500 yen. (ext link)
If you are looking at Western stores Touhou will always be pricey, Japanese stores have more reasonable prices.
Edit: Just saw below you don't like Manda but really if you don't use them you will get ripped off.

I might have to brave Mandarake again then and hope there isn't a payment problem....found one of the rarer Macross Frontier statues the Alter Micronized klan from them last year or so but that was a hassle right there.....So might be time again soon to give them another chance.

Personally, I like to get into things before actually collecting. I don't like buying figures of characters I'm not absolutely attached to If you're like me, I'd definitely suggest that if you're thinking about collecting Touhou merch, you should try to get into the games (or at least the characters) first. ouo

I personally love Touhou, and all of the characters. The games are addicting, and even though I'm not the best at them, I play them for hours on end everyday.. But honestly, they're definitely not for everyone. Some of the games, even on easy mode, can be really hard for people who are new to the genre (or gaming in general). But if you do like them, you'll get hooked.

There's also people that don't play the games, but like the series for it's amazing characters. That's fine too of course (even though most people look down on it). I just think that you should at least give the games a try as well, especially if you're gonna spend a lot of money on a figure.

So yeah, think very well about this before going into it, because it will suck you in and never let go.. ^^;

Touhou is cool I guess, I just have the one Touhou nendoroid I have: item #52701, because Youmu's backstory caught my attention. Not to mention her character design! But, you should only go for the things that REALLY interest you.
