iGSC Saber & Saber Motored Cuirassier R...9/10

I try to make a short review of "Saber & Saber Motored Cuirassier" (weird name) and why you should have it if you're fans of Fate/Zero.

This figure is a really ambitious attempt by GSC.
Saber is the hottest character of their products and with the Fate/Zero anime sweeping Japan last year and this year, basically they could take a safe route by making another conventional Saber figure and it would sell.
Instead, they leveled up their effort by sculpting Saber on her modified Vmax bike, something they have never done before with any character. And they pulled it off.

The result is a master piece figure. An expensive one too. But with all the details and excellent quality, this figure in my opinion even triumphed over ALTER Aegis.
If you spot one tiny detail done remarkably well on ALTER Aegis, you would spot twenty to thirty of the same in this GSC Saber-motored.

Enough with words, let's check the proofs:

Momentum
This figure is all about momentum. GSC tried to capture the pose of Saber drifting with her bike during her race with Rider.
I think this is another risky yet brilliant attempt and they got it done.
You can sense the momentum, hear the sound of the brake, smell the rubber and asphalt burnt from these pics:

Details
The center of attention of this figure is certainly the Cuirassier. The Yamaha VMAX modification.
GSC sculpted the bolts and nuts and considering this figure scale is 1/8, they are much smaller than anything ALTER Aegis 1/6 scaled figure has.
They also successfully made the plastic material looks like metal.
The outside layer of the tires are indeed from rubber.
And you can move the motorcycle front fork like steering the real one.

Look at the cables and the tubes. Realistic.

Look at the super tiny bolts and nuts.
The wheel disc, exhaust, suspension were sculpted very well.

Saber
Saber doesn't need to be outstanding in this figure. She's ok to be decent.
And the sculptor brought the face of Saber Lily which he sculpted too into this figure.
I personally think she's a bit too slim. You won't even know the person on the bike is a girl if you don't follow the series. A little bit curve might be needed to differentiate her from usual pretty boy Japanese character.

Her pose is perfect. That's the way you do the drifting. The sculptor knew what he did.

Saber is ubercool.

If there's a minus for this figure, it's the box.
It is big (unavoidable) but not hard enough so my box was a little damaged during shipping.

To conclude, this figure is a must have for Fate/Zero fans.

SenSeau (2 years ago) #1040573I wouldn't agree with giving Saber more curves. The appeal of Saber in her zero suit is how unfeminine she is. People don't need to be reminded that Saber is female.

Saber passed herself off as male, so the fact that she looks masculine in this is very fitting.

I got your point.
Though Saber would like to look as male, the fact is everyone in the anime effortlessly identified Saber as female. And if we look at her official design here:

You can see there are some curves at her butt and thigh.
Anyway that's minor issue that wouldn't reduce the enjoyment. It's not that obvious with her drifting pose.
As I wrote in the review, the centerpiece of this figure is the VMax bike.
The sculptor interpretation of Saber is fine for me.

SelvariaHime (2 years ago) #1040436You should review the pieces one at a time.
The box,
The base,
The bike,
The girl,
The accessories,
and then the complete set.
or even better another figure posing with her
I know its time consuming but it gives a real complete review =D

SNL (2 years ago) #1039914Great review. I didn't like the box either but not because of fragility, I just expected a box a little more "special" for Motored Saber. Her box is too simple.
yeah, compared to Saber Alter and Saber Lily box (which was released years ago), this Motored Saber box looks really average.
They could make it more shiny and rigid. It looks like they tried to save the cost of the box LOL.
