Enjoy it while you can, I'm pretty sure eventually it will balance out the other way at some point. FX markets can be pretty tricky as I'm sure people will want to bank on it at some point.

At the rate the yen has been falling, I think we'll see 100 yen per dollar within the week or two. Google puts it at 92 yen to the dollar right now, and exactly one month ago it was only 72 yen per dollar.

Or you can hope that Japan's economy tanks. But that only has short-term benefits in our case, lol.
So, IMO, yes, it is a good time to buy stuff.

Er, the exchange rate is lowering mostly because of Japan's central bank doing its best to cheapen the currency in an effort to boost exports after Japan reported a record trade annual trade deficit last year.

The economy can affect it as well, though.

I think we'll see 100yen per $1 US Dollar within the year. Japan's government has expressed that they don't want it to go to 110, but they'll be fine with it around 100 or so. As devaluing one's currency helps exports (by making them cheaper), dropping your rate too much can lead to currency wars, where other countries can start to devalue their own currency.

Right now the big question is who Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is going to select for the Bank of Japan governor, and how little or much change they bring about.

Ordered item #142734 this afternoon from BiJ and was required immediate payment. Was pleasantly surprised to see the PayPal rate at 90.1456 yen = 1 USD.

So I guess good time for artbooks ^^

I've been collecting a year and a half now and never seen the exchange rate so awesome. My static comparison is GSC's Cheerful Japan Miku who cost 12000yen. I paid for her when she went up for order and paid 110euro which I was delighted with. When she was released last September, I would've paid 130euro. Today, I would only be paying 95euro! The difference is crazy!

Of course, typically, due to delays I ended up with no figures in my Jan OR Feb orders. Knowing my luck, the exchange rate will have gotten worse by the time I have to pay for those delayed figures. Doing some serious hunting for older figures now though - if you have the money, now is the time to buy!

I read an article about a month ago that predicts the XG rate might possibly be 95Y per $1USD by the Spring, but of course this is all pure speculation based on the current trends at the time. If you want to keep up with how the rates will turn out, just keep track of finance reports. :)
As for your temptations on getting artbooks, just ask yourself how much you want it. Like R_Kasahara said, always consider how much the shipping will add to the total cost before making a purchase. I recently bought an artbook for 2600Y and USAL cost 1300Y to ship to the USA, so that was kinda a killer in my opinion. If I had known that the shipping would have cost that much, I would have saved that money for a figure instead. :/

Seeing as how one of the biggest things to worry about with artbooks is the shipping expense (unless you're buying a lot at once from Amazon.co.jp), I'd say "sure", but at the same time, a lot more artbooks are getting translated these days, so it depends on what you want. I haven't heard anything about that particular book being translated, though.

I'm tempted to buy some game soundtracks, but I also told myself I'd cut back on the spending this year, so going to at least wait until around my birthday to do that and see what the exchange rate is like then.
