iPurge Commencing.n/a    Readers' selection (2013-03-09)

Well I've crossed that threshold once again that happens once a while when I've either Spent too much or have too much stuff laying around. One thing I hate about when I begin the Purge of items around here Is I have some sleepless nights cause I'm up pretty much attaching a value to the items that I'll be getting rid of.

During these times if I have my boxes that they'll be shipped in nearby literally taking them off the shelf and taking a photo and into the box they go and then up on ebay.

There have been some cases in the past when I was in the Purge mode that I'd sell items less than a hour or even 15 minutes after I put it up.

Just times like this once I get over the question of "Do I really need this stuff?" and "What do I want to keep?" the purge usually starts and I'll have cleaned out an entire shelf or box of stuff that's been laying around for a while.

Odd thing lately is that I've been dealing with another question of "Why the heck did I even buy it if I'm going to get rid of it before I even use it or open it?"

Reasons behind these Purges is simple: It's needed to maintain balance in the collection in terms of having too much of stuff that's just there and when that happens I usually cut down to the stuff I really like.

I know a lot of you probably will usually say "I'll never sell my figures."

But Lately been finding that there's just too much stuff here that I don't use, work with,or even bother with and it just sits there and that's pretty much funds right there I can use to cut down my deficit plus cover any pre-orders that are coming out.

March is going to be the 2013 Collection Purge month it seems not sure when it'll stop but I figure once I get this collection's size down even more I won't feel like this place is crowded or that I'm out of space.

Anyone else Purge or Downsize their collections often?

At the moment I don't feel like getting rid of anything but there may come a time when I'll loose interest in stuff. I've certainly purged my manga collection of things that I bought hoping one day to read but never go round to. Nowadays I'm much better at trying to only pick up series I'm committed to.

the only purges i've done (if they can be considered purges since they're not huge) have been for my pullip dolls. even as someone whose roots in collected started in them, i've gotten to a point where i know my attachment to them is not as strong as i'd like to think it is. almost every doll that's been in my possession was sold off within a year with the exceptions of those i have now, and even then i'm starting to sell them again. the only ones i know i will never get rid of are my rozen maidens, because they are much much more sentimental than the others.

as for figures... i haven't resold many, nor do i feel like i will very soon. i've only been in this hobby for a little over a year, so i think i'm still on the upwards climb of collecting until the top of the mountain where i look back and say "maybe i need to dial it down." luckily i don't order as much as some people i've seen on this site (not that that's a bad thing! i'm pretty jealous) so i think it will be a long time until i start feeling overwhelmed by my collection :) for now i'll just have fun with it!

snowplow (1 year ago) #1400314I don't purge because I personify every figurine I buy, so I can't really give them away. They're going to stay with me until I die, and then I'll hopefully pass them on to someone in the family who treasures them as much as I do.

^this right here.

MarshallDTeach (1 year ago) #1401059that's how most of us purge. Our favorite characters are usually spared; Unless of course you have too many of your favorite characters *HATSUNE MIKU fans, I'm looking at you*, and you decide to scale back.
I've even sold off some of the figures I have of my favorite characters, mostly just lower-quality ones that were taking up space XD

Moro (1 year ago) #1401004I don't purge so much as inflict constant attrition on my collection. I sell things off regularly other than my favorites.

I seem to do a semi-regular purge on everything I own now and then. I'm slowly building up a collection of things I won't ever get rid of, but for every new item that fits into that category there seems to be a bunch of others that I'll sell off in the future.
