iGK - Ms. Girlfriend (Kanojo)n/a    Readers' selection (2013-06-04)

Hello everyone!

I recently finished a Garage Kit and wanted to share my experience with you guys! The Garage Kit I'm talking about is Ms. Girlfriend (also known as Kanojo) item #15979 .

First, some Work in Progress pictures:

I forgot to take pictures of cutting away the leftovers, so the first picture is about ceaning! xD

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Nlp6LIKbV-k/UatqXcsGMoI/AAAAAAAAC7M/KkvUJb5FuCM/s519/IMG_7767.JPG

All her parts before and after undercoating.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-XIiy-Vex9w0/UatqaWC8ukI/AAAAAAAAC8U/ftbHpLSWVu8/s519/IMG_7811.JPG

Starting off with making her jacket black! (Please keep in mind that these pictures were made during the painting, so if something looks very shiny, it's because the paint was still drying!)

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-uSgvKDabERk/UatqYU7NwII/AAAAAAAAC7o/lm23syuPxYg/s519/IMG_7789.JPG

Took a long time mixing for the right skin colour for her! But I'm glad how it turned out.

Detailing her jacket~

One of the first versions of her face. I had a hard time with it. Especially since I got rhe right eye looking good and then the left eye doesn't look the same and then I do everything over again, again and again...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Hz9FQPEh73w/UatqarH55SI/AAAAAAAAC8Q/gGqgxFZokZE/s519/IMG_7813.JPG

Second version of the face and the almost complete jacket!

Final version of the face and jacket!

And let me show you the special stuff now! :3

For Ms. Girlfriend, one of the first things I was thinking of after receiving her was: "Well, she looks great, but those stockings look quite boring...or at least it looks boring to just paint them grey/black." So...

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7YzPqo2KTJE/UatqZsQgy5I/AAAAAAAAC8A/P0Vd95rl9SM/s519/IMG_7805.JPG

...I grabbed a leftover piece of fabric...

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-APHp8_m372I/UatqaIwInKI/AAAAAAAAC8I/poGOUma9uUE/s519/IMG_7807.JPG

...and wrapped it around her leg! After that I sew the fabric together and cut off the extra pieces.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ept_NHZZj_4/UatqbEvEHjI/AAAAAAAAC8g/w6gdBRlde2Y/s519/IMG_7817.JPG

While still sewing, I matched it a lot to her other leg and if it fit well on her. Since the Garage Kit still needed to be put together, all her parts needed to fit at their rightful places. Luckily this all went well!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-n7_KeQMiJz0/UatqbgZcARI/AAAAAAAAC8o/_JKJhCdQJcU/s519/IMG_7823.JPG

And now for her other special part...her base! I took a piece of cardboard.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OFPp84TXC-M/Uatqccu2DmI/AAAAAAAAC8w/sa5PyMk9CTM/s519/IMG_7824.JPG

Glued plush on it (the stuff you normally fill teddybears with)!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-c-D5ZdlpxA4/UatqcyL6mXI/AAAAAAAAC9A/n0KznE29Iqs/s519/IMG_7825.JPG

After that I took some other leftover fabric I had. This was a light shiny, dark blue. I glued it on the edges and wrapped it around the full cardboard.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-uvoidbxfy4I/UatqdMd2eqI/AAAAAAAAC9I/hhnmBi_8sMs/s519/IMG_7826.JPG

Tadah~! Her majesty's own pillow base!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-UTsWSf_7CkU/UatqeC28VxI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/5Ua7ozLIVr8/s519/IMG_7831.JPG

So I put her on there...

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-cIEAiz6b14A/UatqdWPzpqI/AAAAAAAAC9Q/dkx-l_kZs_I/s519/IMG_7827.JPG

...but something felt a bit wrong. She was too light. So it didn't look like she was sitting on something soft.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fudCyoNUiAA/UatqeL9cwQI/AAAAAAAAC9k/lHmi-bpURQU/s519/IMG_7833.JPG

So I took her off the base again and sewn some parts of the base together. This to create the effect that she is really pressing into the pillow.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0HkjAqiHM_8/UatqeQV5c3I/AAAAAAAAC9c/LOsutmLYMLA/s519/IMG_7834.JPG

And it worked! :D

Finished Garage Kit

I'm very proud to show you...ms. Girlfriend!

Making the Garage Kit of Ms. Girlfriend was quite different from my other ones! She didn't have many details, so there was only the challenge to make the colour just as even on every place. Luckily this went quite well with the black. Because painting her was quite simple, I wanted to do something extra, which I did with her stocking and base. I hope you guys also like how it turned out!

All my Garage Kits

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-AMQjYo6qxmE/UaxB3xxGwgI/AAAAAAAAC_E/8LIB4qoLnK4/s648/IMG_7847.JPG

And here you see all my made Garage Kits! It was only until that moment I realised I had made a way too big base for her and that wasn't smart...

Bonus

After cutting away leftover resin and wanting to clean it up...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KDFmNwD2P88/UatqWbPaxJI/AAAAAAAAC64/kdY7qmzKtoY/s519/IMG_7761.JPG

...I saw this! I accidentally made confetti for this happy couple!

My next Garage Kit to make has also been planned, and it will be: item #12293 I have already started with cleaning and cutting leftovers off, but did nothing on the painting yet. I hope I can start on that this summer. Also, I'm thinking about what exactly to do with him, since I also think that he is quite simple, so maybe I can think of something special (just as with ms. Girlfriend) to do for him!

Thanks for reading~!

Xoras (1 year ago) #1541560Your work on the 4 figures is nice!
This will help me for my future GK. ^^
Thank you!

Glad it helps! You can always write on my profile here if you have any questions about Gk's!! ^^ (Not that I'm an expert or anything, haha... ^^'')

Muntoe (1 year ago) #1541562She turned out very cute, nice clean work on the details like her buttons!

Thanks! :D I used multiple shades of gold and luckily because of the size of her buttons (huge!) the detailing went quite easy there! :D

neptunecadet (1 year ago) #1541932How do you get your paint looking so good! I tried painting a figure with brushes before and it just looked like I painted it with brushes--like, I could see the brushstrokes. How do I paint with paintbrushes and not get brushstrokes?

midnighteve (1 year ago) #1543487^This, exactly! I'd love to know if there's some sort of special technique you use. Your paint job came out so awesome!

Well I had the strokes-problem before this with my older GK's. I was then recommended to use paint thinner, which actually didn't work for me! :< It became less stroke-y but more blotchy. :< So what I do now is I thin the paint with a liiiiittle bit of water.

When I paint big surfaces I move the brush across the area as quickly as possible without taking rests until the whole part has been painted. Then I let it evenly dry for a very long time before applying the details. I did this for her black jacket and I think it quite worked.

When I paint small surfaces I make small "spots" only with the tip of my brush. (I used this method for her face and buttons.)

I think this is my own special tehnique since I don't know any other people painting like this! :P (Most people I know use paintbrush for as much parts as possible and also use masks.)

Sethy (1 year ago) #1544499I just noticed on one of the pictures it said "specialist in bruidswerk" and then saw the confetti in the bonus shot. This can't be just coincidence !?

VioFitz (1 year ago) #1545194Lol at the last pic...

Glad it cheered you guys up! :D I also thought it looked so cute at the wedding picture! >w<

And it was coincidence, since I just used some old newspapers lying around to put underneath! Haha!

Sethy (1 year ago) #1544499That face is very difficult to get right it seems.
But looking good.
Great job on the gk.

Faces...and mainly the eyes are the hardest part of a GK. It can make or break the character! >.<

VioFitz (1 year ago) #1545194Nice article as always.
