iArcadia's Elin Figure Review9.17/10    Readers' selection (2013-07-09)

Ok this is actually my first figure review and hopefully not my last.

Introduction

As many already know by now Arcadia is in fact the new name for Yamato. When the figure first went up for pre-order there was a lot of confusion about who Arcadia was and what they're quality was like. Now we know this is Yamato in a new name but with they're great quality the same if not better that before.

Another worry for many people was the large price tag of 12800 yen (or 10750 if bought through Big In Japan like me). While not very clear in pictures this figure is in fact very big at 27cm from base to ear tip. Her scale isn't listed but I would say she's between 1/5 and 1/6 scale to give a better idea. When you factor in the quality and size of this figure the price does very much make sense.

The Box

While nothing very special it is nicely presented with windows allowing adequate light on the figure. Also they used space within it very well and the result is a box that isn't as big as other companies would've made it. Anyway it's as small as possible while granting suitable protection for the figure. Artwork on the box is really nice although it's strange that they went with artwork for a different Elin on the front bottom corner. O.o Depending on the shop she will ship SAL but check beforehand.

The Base

The base on the original garage kit sculpted by French Doll was quite pretty. It depicted a swirl of magic energy which helped give the figure a sense of twirling motion. Instead of this base Arcadia decided to go for a simpler mirrored base presumably because it helped reduce the already expensive price tag. While not as good as the original base it's still better than other plainer plastic bases and gives an impression of expense and class to the figure. It also provides adequate support to the figure so she shouldn't be falling over or leaning.

The Figure Herself!

The first thing that caught my eye about this figure was all the fine details and high quality paint job as many have come to expect from Yamato figures. She is simply gorgeous! The other major thing is dynamic her pose which is both interesting and cute at the same giving a real sense of energy to the figure. Also I should point out that she was designed to be displayed from any angle and still look beautiful, which is probably why they didn't put any text on the base.

I'm going to start at the bottom of this figure and work my way up now. Looking at her feet the first thing that caught my eye was the fine details and paint job as evident throughout the figure. Her toes have all be perfectly sculpted with each nail painted. Her shoes are nicely detailed and look like a separate part to her feet.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Archeotech1373288821.jpeg

Looking at her legs and hips I think it's very clear that French Doll has a very good grasp on female anatomy and possibly even had someone model for him. I liked that the muscle on the inner thigh of her raised leg is tensed as it should be. The legs and hips are really nice and shapely as is with the Elin race in game. It really annoys me when some people call the Elin children as while they are loli-like their legs and hips are clearly of a fully developed girl. A really nice detail to the paint job that many figure companies have on their prototypes but skimp out on the final product is the subtle use of shading and blushing. Arcadia did go that extra mile and use some blushing on the knees and other areas of her body. This adds to a sense of realism to her legs.

I should also note her nicely toned exposed tummy again with really nice definition.

Her bum... Let's face it it's a major feature of this figure and if you like your shapely realistic bums then you'll love this figure. Her skimpy hotpants look pretty tight and have realistic creases in the fabric and the flesh folds slightly where it meets the fabric as it would with a normal tight fitting bikini bottom/hotpants. In short this is one of the finer bums to be found on any figure out there.

Her jacket/top flows along giving the appearance of a swirling movement. I like that it's not one colour but a blend giving a nice shading effect. I really like the way her arms are positioned.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Archeotech1373288878.jpeg

Her weapon is really nicely detailed with beautifully done energy crackling on the end. I like the subtle pigments of pink and blue added in to the energy make it seem more alive.

Her face will not disappoint either. Beautifully sculpted she has an adorable and cheerful face which you will never grow tired of seeing. Her eyes are some of the more detailed and interesting eyes I've seen. Her hair is again well sculpted and subtly shaded giving a sense of movement.

In Conclusion

I don't think anybody will go wrong with getting this figure. The sculpt, paintwork, and overall quality is pretty much perfect. It doesn't just appeal to loli lovers but also to anybody who like beautifully sculpted moe girls with cute bums. ^_^

I'm hard pressed to come up with any negatives unless very nit picky. After seeing the nails on the foot it's surprising they didn't add in a painted nail for the exposed thumbs. (like I said very nit picky!) Also it is a shame they didn't go with the original figures base even though the mirrored base is still really nice.

This turned out a lot longer than I thought it would! lol Hope you enjoyed it and that it was helpful. =) Please feel free to comment! Now to hope that Arcadia make the other Elin figure that French Doll sculpted....

chiechie (25 days ago) #2052039i was reading this review earlier today and i thought to myself "what a beautiful figure.. i would love to be lucky enough to find her for a good price". i happen to be on vacation in california and i visited little tokyo today and MUCH to my surprise they had her in one of the stores for only $166! that is the most i have ever spent on a figure but this review really made me see she's entirely worth it
i'll be sad my vacation is over tomorrow and i have to go home but i CAN'T wait to open her <3 <3

Aww thank you! ^^ Glad if I was of help in making your decision to purchase her. That price wasn't too bad as she's getting hard to get these days. You really won't regret it! ^__^ She's one of my favourite figures in my collection and I never grow tired of seeing her.

There's another Elin figure from French Doll/Arcadia on pre-order now which I had hoped would be made but they changed her outfit to a swimsuit instead for the PVC release which is a little disappointing, but the figure itself still looks very cute and well made if not as detailed as this version.

cevenslight (9 months ago) #1609522This might sound ridiculous but how did you get the staff in her hand? From what I can see her hand is closed and I can't tell if the staff comes apart somewhere; I don't want to break it x.x
Wonderful review! This is a really beautiful figure. Very worth it in my opinion.

no it's cool ^^ The bottom gold part on the staff comes off and then you can slide the staff into her hand. ;)

Archeotech (9 months ago) #1605854Not sure how shipping works in your country but probably Big In Japan or Nippon Yassan works out best for me in Ireland. I usually ship with SAL (small packet) which costs about 1,200yen per figure. BIJ uses the registered SAL small packet which is about 500yen more. The Elin figure from BIJ using SAL registered cost 1900 yen on shipping. Also if like Ireland you have customs issues both places will undervalue so it'll go through ;)

Well thing is, for DPD, it almost doesn't matter how many figures you order. Almost lol.

But shipping 1 is pointless, though.

I order from them cuz:
- shipping from any and all popular shops cost a lot more for me
- DPD (shipping service which I use) warehouse is located pretty much near where I live. As I am a working man, I can't be at home all the time or so. So I pick my stuff up from there, on my way home.
- it's mainly a matter of convenience and shipping options/cost
- higher price of the figures, but way lower price of shipping

Archeotech (9 months ago) #1605820Archonia is a european based shop and their stock can take longer to get shipped to them which is why the later release date. Wave two could be referring to a second order the shop placed. I haven't seen that anywhere else.

Yea, that indeed is the case. It takes longer for them to get the stuff. Not that it matters much to me lol.

Archeotech (9 months ago) #1605820Anyway I don't think there will be any difference but you'll see when you get her.

Well, I'm fine either way. I really want her regardless.

Archeotech (9 months ago) #1605820Archonia normally charge a lot more for their figures. How come you ordered there?

Indeed, they charge more. Funny that I had found exceptions in the past, though.

Notice how in photo #2, the shirt doesn't have that bright purple? That's what's missing, imo.
I order my stuff from a not-so-popular shop, known as archonia.com.
It seems that Elin wave 02 is still available for pre-order there:

Fan3777 (9 months ago) #1605710Thanks for the review.
I did preorder this one from day one. It's gonna be released next month in seems (wave 2).
Anyway, my main complaint would be, that there's no purple glow on the shirt anymore. Wave 01 had it.
I'm still getting it regardless, as that doesn't seem to make me very upset lol.
Overall, the figure is indeed awesome, just rather expensive.
