iSAL to Europe (Portugal)n/a

How long does it take for a SAL package to arrive in Europe?, and more specifically, how long does it take to arrive in Portugal?

I'm asking because I don't like to wait, so, I always choose EMS, but this time a package from Mandarake Sapporo store got stuck in customs! almost 10 days now, if SAL doesn't take much longer than 10 days I might consider giving it a try.

Another question, EMS packages go straight to customs once they arrive, is it the same with SAL?

kin (1 year ago) #1602548Trust me, that not only happens in Portugal. I've always had my packages end up for 10 days in custom and then get a nice big custom tax bill on top of it. I tried to see if it was the same so I sent my package to family in another country (still in Europe) but then I had to wait even longer!
What's worse?
My friend who lives 20 kms away from me never had this happen to her. NEVER.
I found a trick with EMS is that the one who sends it - your proxy - needs to mark it down as "gift" (something I always do extra: undervalue it to under 10,000Y) and ever since I do that I don't have to wait 15-20 days but just 7 days to get a package with EMS. Which is another thing I don't get, EMS always says you get your parcel in 4 days so why doesn't that apply to Europe.

They usually send me "gifts" with a low value, even without me asking, I think they (Sapporo) forgot to mark it as gift this time, or maybe I needed to ask them to do it...
But even if it's a gift, the PT customs will charge me VAT and some minor fees if the EMS shipping costs are high enough, I once received a "gift" package (EMS 5400 JPY + goods value 2400 JPY) and it arrived with a 20€ VAT/fees charge.
I can't remember where, but I think I read EMS is usually 5 to 7 days to Europe, in my case they usually take 5 days to arrive in my country and (if the PT customs don't stop it) 1 or 2 more days to arrive at my hometown.

4Arnd (1 year ago) #1602279Problem is, shipping times can vary. Local customs "interest" does nothing to speed up delivery either as you have already seen. I've had two SAL (non-tracked) deliveries recently, one at 8 and one with 7 days delivery time, so they can be relative fast, but there is no guarantee. In general, I must say, SAL, with or without tracking usually don't take more than 14 days for me, even when held up in customs.
The fastest delivery I ever had was a low value figure with EMS (no customs), just under 48h from ordering to delivery on my doorstep.

Thanks, now I have a better idea about the SAL shipping times, it's not as bad as I thought :)

O Sal registado demora 15 dias a três semanas a chegar a Portugal.

SShirokaze (1 year ago) #1599125i live in spain and i always go for sal small packet, because otherwise i get robbed by customs.
it usually takes about 15 days to arrive for me. that's the average tho. i'v had orders that took up to 45 days to arrive!, but my personal record for unregistered sal has been 9 days! it surprised me it arrived so fast!

15 days is not too long, but waiting 45 days would be a bit too long (and stressful) for me... thanks.
