If there is one thing that makes me an extremely happy collector is obtaining a male figure. Now if you were to make said male figure from a BL manga/novel/game series there would be no words to describe my happiness. It’s no secret that I am a gigantic fujoshi so when the announcement that Good Smile Company would be making a nendo petite set from Shungiku Nakamura’s very popular BL series Junjo Romantica (Pure Romance) I nearly passed out. Junjo Romantica is serialized in monthly Ciel and the seasonal Ciel Tres Tres magazine. Its popularity has extended over to several Drama CDs, Novels, and a 24 episode anime series a first for any BL anime. The story revolves around 3 different couples: Junjo Romantica (Akihiko Usami “Usagi” and Misaki Takahashi), Junjo Egoist (Nowaki Kusama and Hiroki Kamijō) , and Junjo Terrorist (Miyagi Yō and Shinobu Takatsuki). Good Smile Company announced they would be making the petite set after the main Romantica Pairing: Usami, Misaki, and Suzuki-san (Usami’s stuffed bear). The pre-order opened up back in December 2008 and they were slated as a Chara Ani exclusive with a release date of August 2009 with a list price of ¥2100. My excitement for this announcement was quickly shaken when they were delayed from August to December 2009. I was a little disappointed but it was just a 4 month delay which wasn’t that bad or so I thought. In December the one thing I didn’t want to hear was announced “Delayed until August 2010”. If you count from the time pre-orders opened back in Dec. 2008 till August 2010 the poor Junjou set had been delayed almost 2 years. Now let’s see if the long wait for the Junjo Romantica petit set was worth it.

These were the adorable illustrations that were posted at GSC website during those days of delay. You have Usami, Misaki, and Suzuki-san. I do admit that seeing these cute illustrations picked up my spirits a little.

The box is decorated with a pink and white lace design across the top of the box and the rest of the box is in a pink checkered design. On the top left hand side you have the Kadokawa Production sticker. In the top center we have Nendoroid・Petit Puchi(ねんどろいど ぷち)written while on bottom center have Junjo Romantica Set (純情ロマンチカセット). As a thank you for being patient for the release a Junjo Romantica pen was included with the purchase.

Inside the packaging you have the boys and Suzuki-san with their petit stands.

Out of the box you can see Suzuki-san, Usagi, and Misaki. One thing I noticed was Suzuki-san ribbon is red. In the pre-view illustration we saw a green and red ribbon however; this change isn’t a big deal since Suzuki-san’s ribbon is constantly getting changed. They stand at 50 mm which is 1.96 inches.

Here we have Usagi and Misaki our main pairing in the Junjo series. Usagi dressed as always in his business suit attire while Misaki wears his jacket and pants from season one of the anime. Something that quickly caught my eye was the fact that Misaki is slightly taller than Usagi. It makes me laugh since the Seme chara in BL is almost always the taller one in the relationship. In the Junjo world Misaki is shorter one nonetheless, his expression is adorable.

Usagi’s boastful expression reminds me of the early chapters in the manga when Misaki asks Usagi why he keeps using him in his BL novels without his permission. Usagi just replies “Because I want to”.

A close up on Usagi’s face you can see his beautiful purple eyes. Usagi’s eyes are not fully opened so you can see a little crease in his eyes. His hair has a little shade of brown that blends into his gray hair color. Once again that expression is priceless.

A view from behind you can see the brown color notably as is blends into the gray towards the tips of his hair.

I love Misaki’s pose. His hands in his front pockets just give him that extra lovable look along with his blushing face. This adorable pose just has a high amount of Usa-mone that can certainly attract the whole Usami family.

Closer look at MIsaki’s blushing face. How can you honestly ever say no to a face like that? His big green eyes along with his furrowed eyebrows just make me weak in the knees.

Much like Usagi’s hair Misaki also has two shades of hair color that you can significantly notice from behind. Misaki has a light shade of brown that blends into a darker tint of brown.

Suzuki-san looking ever so cute with his red ribbon tied around his neck
.

Here we can see Suzuki-san’s adorable nubby tail.

You can see the detail on the painted claws for Suzuki-san.

I do like how they added that extra detail of painting Suzuki-san’s paw.

Misaki can blame those darn Usa-Mone’s for this.

One thing about the Nendo Petit’s that I love is that fact that you can change their parts with other nendo peitit’s. Knowing that I could do that I couldn’t resist re-creating the scene where Misaki’s helps out at the college festival and dresses in a Bear costume to lure customers to the Onsen research club’s hunted house.

Family portrait.

Fun with cosplay.

I think Good Smile Company did a good job with the Junjo set however, was it worth the nearly 2 year wait? This has been the longest delay I have ever experienced since I got into collecting. Would I go through this again if GSC announced tomorrow they would release a set for the Egoist or Terrorist pair? I admit I would. In the end they are worth having in your collection. The set is cute and I do love the poses each character was given. If you missed out getting the set I did find them still available at Chara-ani website. You will need to contact a proxy. As always before I end this review I want to thank Kristopher Eijan for taking these beautiful pictures of my Junjo Romantica boys I could not have done this without you. I know it wasn’t easy with me going into Otome Mode every 3 seconds.
