So I was right before that the artwork does indeed show off Hikari (the "new" protagonist, seriously why not Sadako?) and her older sister Tamaki. Though it's an odd case with Tamaki as her dress would suggest being higher-rank despite the 502nd having their command filled.

Though this said, naming her Tamaki. I think the new dev team wants to screw with me.

PV up on NicoNico,

(you'll need an account to watch).

No actual animation or voices but we now have a clear view of the two new characters. Release date seems to be set for 2016, so a Summer/Fall release date is the most likely. Fumikane also tweeted this, (ext link)

Alright so it's Feb 29 here in the States but March 1st in Japan (I tell you, playing the mobile game is a pain sometime with the events). Be on the lookout for the PV!

Sadly for me it's Lent and I gave up anime, manga, and fan art (of anime and manga) but I suppose the big guy could maybe make an exception for the PV... wow I'm a terrible Catholic.

Two unknown characters are shown in the art, one of who is likely Karibunchi Hikari and possibly Karibunchi Takami.

Oh boy sounds exciting!

So popping up again.

According to a friend who read a facebook post (yeah, I know that's a bad way for information) apparently the third season is going to be more "military" focused and feature a new protagonist that's not Sadako. It's someone named Karibunchi Hikari who is the little sister of Karibunchi Takami of the 508th (yeah have no clue who this either). The post can be found here,

Of course this is still more of rumor and speculation so everything should be taken with a grain of salt since this is just from memories of people who went to an event and then wrote about it online. So as you can imagine this is flimsy evidence at best.

GarouDensetsu55 (3 months ago) #5847074Nah, you're not overthinking. If you are I'm just as guilty. I'm guessing the producers purposefully removed China and Korea for the same reason they turned the US into a giant messy star. Probably also why Karlsland and Fuso conveniently have the most and 'best' Witches. But if it were made in the US or England it would be the same in that it would focus mostly on the Allies.
But, that aside, I agree with you on the fanservice and the panties. I wouldn't mind if they did away with the panty thing and focused on the actual Neuroi War and thier magic more. But sex sells so I won't hold my breath. Its still a good series though and we can just ignore the panties.

If anything at least they give a reason on why no one wears pants (the whole Strikers need skin contact... then again why doesn't everyone wear what Nikka or Eila wear is beyond me). So at least they go "damnit we want to show panties and we'll give a reason too". I can respect that aspect. But as for having about five or six baths per episode... look, you're in war. I think you can live on a shower. Having a bath constructed is more or less overkill.

ZoidsFanatic (3 months ago) #5823814The bad thing about China is that it technically doesn't exist in the Strike Witches world. The Neuroi literally blew it up if the anime map is anything to go by. (ext link). I'm really surprised no one kinda pointed out the general issue of a show set in World War 2 that focuses on Japan conveniently not having China or Korea around. That or I'm over thinking things.
It likely could have been better if it lacked the fan service, at least I think so. I really don't care about the fan service but I did feel that some... well, OK, lots of it could have been removed. One thing I was always bugged about were the "panties" episodes, and I get where they are going but at the same time I feel it kinda undermines the whole "elite" thing the 501st was supposedly going for. I mean, these are the top aces, right? Kill something already!
But, again, I'm generally an outliner when it comes to Strike Witches. For what it's worth my favorite thing was the universe and ripe world-building. That's what really kept me attached.

GarouDensetsu55 (3 months ago) #5823597True, we don't need those. We already have quite a few Witches who have yet to be fleshed out, including the two I mentioned. Even Matilda could stand a little more development. I'd just like a little more variety outside Karlsland and Fuso since the War engulfs the entire world. Maybe explore China (or whatever they call it in SW world). Pandas make good familiars.
But one thing I do wonder: would SW draw a bigger crowd all around and maybe be more respected without the fanservice? I personally don't mind it (could also do without it. If you want fanservice, image boards are full of it) but I know that does repel some from the series, which is a shame. Those people are missing a solid sci-fi/military anime with legit real-world historical tie-ins. I have no problem with it being niche as I march to my own drum but that is something I think about.
