Anime/Manga is a pretty uncommon hobby to have in Singapore. Some may even frown upon it, dismissing it as a cartoon aimed towards young children or perverts.(<-- Which we all know it is not necessarily true) It is therefore not a surprise to find anime products selling for high prices locally. Therefore most of us turn to online shops, such as AmiAmi, or conventions for a better and economical option.

With that, I'm curious. Where do you guys get your anime loot from? Be it brick and mortar and/or online.

Compared to other countries, it feels like the hobby's actually not that uncommon here.

I remember back in sec school, my classmates sitting to my left/back/front all watched Prince of Tennis (the one sitting to my right was a Winnie the Pooh fan instead LOL) and then in college we occasionally used the room projector to watch anime :v

For scale figures I mostly buy online. Amiami, sometimes Toycoin when their prices seem fair, Suruga-ya for older figures. Rarely order from Mandarake. I've bought a few times from other MFC members.
For trading figures, prize figures and character goods it depends. If I'm buying by boxes usually Amiami. If I just want a few I buy/join splits on Carousell or on MFC, or find them at local shops (Anime Yorozuya, Hobby Atelier) or Suruga-ya.

There are a few shops at CSC whose prices seem fair actually :0

Haha, I guess you're right, there are still anime clubs and we still have anime conventions from time to time. I guess I'm just unfortunate enough to barely have any friends who are ever interested.

Anyway, nice suggestions! I have tried most of the online shops you mentioned, except Suruga-ya.(Know nuts about Japanese) I do find some local online shops a bit pricey though, but as you said, can be still reasonable; plus they do give you the option to collect it in person. In the end, i guess it's just weighing which one is most economic when you add up all the costs.

As for local stores, never really bought from them, mostly because I never looked at the right places. I will check out the shops you mentioned though if I happen to be in the area.

For online shops in Singapore, I often browse hobbyfrontier and toycoin, but rarely purchase any from them.

For brick mortar shop, I go to La Tendo in Funan quite often, and have purchased a few scale figs there too, especially Native figures that I missed the pre-order.

I heard Funan is closing down though, I wonder if La Tendo would move when that happens...

I rarely buy from local shops due to insane mark ups.

I mainly buy from AmiAmi, Aniplex Plus, Mandarake. Mandarake is great on a budget; a lot of the figures are MSIB!

Hi guys, how are you doing! I'm from Singapore too and is quite new to this hobby and community!

While I was doing research on where to buy anime-related figures, I found this thread and saw some places that closed or moved weren't updated. So here is a list I made, sorry if I missed any shops ^^;

hikaridranz's map from other thread (mfc link) was really helpful and great for all the brick-and-mortar hobby-related shops, including western statues and goods. Thank you! \o/

So below is a list of shops for people like me who are only interested in Japanese anime figures.
Also did not include trading card, cosplay shops or any store likely to carry suspicious (bootleg) merchandise.

Edit: Oops forgot to add P Bandai.

Wow, that's quite a listing for someone who's just started! Well, your research would certainly help. Good to have people around to point out reliable stores and merch sources, among many that just sell them on the side and have no idea they are selling bootlegs.

PS: Totally forgot Hobby Frontier was a thing. That shop usually sold at pretty reasonable prices. Sad to hear it's inactive now. :(

Thank you! Was just trying to compare prices between stores and Amiami. And before I knew it, the list became like this ahaha.... ^^;; Since figures aren't cheap, bootlegs/unlicensed goods was a huge concern for me too.

And yeah, heard good things about Hobby Frontier but they haven't been uploading new products for quite some time. They mentioned something about redesigning their website on their FB page a while back, but they just MIA-ed. Hope the local market is doing okay :(
