4Arnd (1 year ago) #73756331 - They charge your card in Yen and your CC company does the conversion. Not sure about charges, if any, as I'm not in the US and is likley to be CC or bank dependent.
2 - If you want it fast, despite the higher cost, use EMS. If you can wait and want to save a few bucks, SAL (with tracking) is fine to use.
3 - So far as I know, if you buy only a couple of figures and items, you won't have to pay any customs in the US (unlike us in Europe in general).

Thank you so much for the information!

GildedHeretic (1 year ago) #7375618Hello everyone I have a few questions about amiami because I've only every bought from US sellers on Ebay and I'm a little weary about buying from them.
-First off since it looks like they charge everything in yen if I used my US credit card would they just convert the currency and I would need to pay a fee for it?
-Second What's the best shipping method to use to get shipments to the US? I see SAL and EMS are rather popular.
-Finally how do you pay for customs? Do you pay Amiami themselves or the postal office when you pick it up.
If you have any other tips and newbie should know I would appreciate as much info as possible and thank you for your time.

lavalunar (1 year ago) #6935372Hey, random question here -- what sites would you guys suggest for picking up second hand trading figures? I'm a big fan of smaller-scale figures, like One Coins, etc... But many of them become very hard to come by once they cease to be so main stream. I've had the best luck on Mandarake and here on MFC itself, but does anyone have other suggestions?
Omocha-ya E-na [ext link ] , maybe? Trading figures are their forte, I think they'd fit what you're seeking for. I'm not sure if they'll accept international shipping though, their Q&A says you need to contact them beforehand by e-mail to discuss for international shipping [ext link ] , so you'd better assume you'll need a proxy / middleman to use them.

I'm actually pretty upset about Animate US closing, but for various reasons. My main concern however is that I had ordered the Kogi scale, Kogi nendo x2, and Racing Miku EV ver from them and they haven't answered my email as to whether or not they will be filling these orders since they are closing. Just kinda sucks :(

I don't even care about the Miku one anymore, I just want the Kogi figures >.>

angelbott (1 year ago) #6780334I am very confused I tried to find in a forum page about USA Animate.. [and feedback too] why they are nothing? I mean we ordered some from there..And, this shop online is shutting down in this month..so I'd like to read about Animate USA [and Japan too..] Thanks..please update of this..
It just seems like no one bothered to make a thread about USA Animate, and it's too late now...

I've placed a few orders with USA Animate over the years, so here's a brief summary of my experiences:

- They had a really, really large and nice selection of Animate/Movic merchandise (stationery goods, bags, straps, etc.) that would be very hard to get ahold of otherwise; this was especially true for the event exclusives which they sometimes carried. Prices were all right for smaller things, but for more expensive items (bags, pouches, etc.), the markups were worse-- they would often be around twice the Japanese retail price or more. It's worth noting that at Kinokuniya bookstores, the Animate items for sale tend to be full priced, with none of the online discounts.

- They also carried media items and figures. Manga prices were not much less than MSRP, and they only carried Viz/SuBLime titles, so it was better to stick to Right Stuf or other shops which have better prices and larger selections. DVD/BD prices were a little better and often came with store-exclusive bonuses like wall scrolls, but the only publisher they carried was Aniplex of America. Figure prices seemed okay for the most part, but I never ordered any from them. All of their figures were either from GSC and its affiliates, or Movic.

- USA Animate would usually include little freebies with orders, like stickers or postcards. They often ran special promotions where for every $10 worth of items you ordered from a given franchise, you'd get a campaign-specific random freebie in a sealed envelope. Toward the end of their run, they would include a ton of freebies with orders, some in envelopes and some not. Guess they had to get rid of them somehow.

- Handing times were good, but got worse within this month. Perhaps they haven't been keeping business hours as regularly due to their impending closure, but who knows.

- The absolute worst thing about USA Animate-- and I totally believe that this is what killed them in the end-- were the shipping options, which were lousy. They only shipped FedEx. Sure, FedEx is typically fast and reliable, but what this meant was that if you only wanted a clear file or two, you'd be paying roughly $10 for shipping! Mailing a clear file via USPS costs less than two dollars! Because of this, all but one of my orders there were split with at least one other person, since the FedEx rates were only reasonable when buying a lot of stuff at once. They also wouldn't ship outside of the US.

Sad to see USA Animate's online store go, and still annoyed that I didn't pick up a Hatsune Miku grab box (if only I had known about their closure earlier...), but between the markups that ranged from tolerable to high and especially the terrible shipping options, its failure is totally understandable.

I saw someone else had asked this question but there was no answer so I thought I'd ask here instead. For animate JP, how do they handle an order with in stock items and pre-order items? Are they like amiami (keep until all are in stock) or do they ship the items as they are available?

Weeacvnt (1 year ago) #6325624Big in Japan isn't replying to any of my e-mails.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I decided to cancel all my orders with BiJ before Christmas and requested that they close my account.
It took 4 emails, keep trying is all I can say!

Hi, a question for my fellow collectors, do any of you know if there's a reputable proxy service for American shops?

Hello fellow collectors I do understand that there is a shop post with information about the different shops but I was unable to find this one and they have a figure on stock that I wanted, my question would be do you think that is a legit shop? would I be scammed shopping on it? I do need your awesome experience feedback, thank you very much beforehand!!!

The shop in question is as follows: [ext link ]

FoolishConnor (2 years ago) #4837896Anyone heard of Q-toy.com? Is it reliable, and do they ship to the US? (Everything's in Japanese and even with page translation it's still very confusing.)

Just looking at the info on scamadvisor, I'd say it's definitely not legit. The site owner is "asd df" with a street address of "dfds dfd dfdf, dfsd dsfsd"... [ext link ]

Hi, does anyone know when you receive money through PayPal under friends and families, will you be charged for PayPal fees on selling items? Mine is a Singapore PayPal account and I wanted to recieve money from an Europe user.
Also, will the currencies auto convert to USD or will it be in the currencies you received?
Thank you!

If they're fake site they will probably steal your credit card info and not send you anything...
