kilaniCan't they just make the base out of a different material!?
I guess they can't use too light material, otherwise the base won't be balanced enough. I just hope it's not gonna be 1kg o__o I really want this figure and it looks the best with the base.

They even admitted that the base is super heavy and is for temporary use during the live show after Wonfest 2010 Winter, and if they did decided to keep the base that way the price will be expensive since it includes metal parts ^^;
If I remember correctly the base itself is close to 1kg in weight ^^;
...but we'll see, maybe they'll change their minds.
1KG...shipping is gonna be a pain lol.

A possibility for this is to make the base a separated item, like an accesory u can order or not.

Max Factory does seem to go all out on bases (specifically thinking of VN Miku and Meltdown Rin), but GSC tends to... skimp when it comes to bases.
This base is easily twice the size of any previous Miku base :p

They wouldn't be concerned about weight for a prototype but there's no technical reason that they couldn't move to a hollow-cast PVC base for the shipping figure.
