DK-Matty (2 years ago) #2586144Im sorry im very new to the scene so im not too sure what a 'prize figure is' The listing says "Fan made goods" and I just found another listing that says "Made In China Factory,Not From Japan Banpresto, quality is very good" So made in China is 100% bootleg right?
Don't be sorry :D A prize figure is an item that isn't sold through normal means. In this case, it's because it's a figure you can catch in UFO catcher machine (I think). That kind of figures is usually cheaper on the aftermarket, very simply because it is of lesser quality than the regular PVC figures sold in shops. Or at least, it is supposed to be like that. That description you just listed changes everything though! "Made in China factory" is not a hint at all because almost every figure maker has its plant(s) in China, however the "not from Japan Banpresto" part is pretty clear: this is definitely a bootleg. A bootleg is basically an imitation not produced by its original manufacturer, so yeah, that particular figure you found is most likely a bootleg, sadly.

Edit: oops sorry, synchro-posted with R_Kasahara

The vast majority of figures on this site are manufactured in China for Japanese companies and the Japanese market, so no, that does not necessarily mean that it's a bootleg. However, even though prize figure bootlegs are rare, one does have to be very careful when it comes to such listings. On eBay, I find it best to stick with known sellers in Japan, but YMMV.

A "prize figure" is one intended to be given away via arcade machines or special lotteries. There are a few ways to buy them, usually on the aftermarket, and unless they're really popular (or extremely limited), they can be found for around $30 USD or less. They're typically lower quality than scaled figures, but the best ones are a great value for the price.

Take (2 years ago) #2585909It's a prize figure, so it may be its true value. If you read through the previous comment, you'll see someone found one for 2,800 yens so $28 sounds legit.
