strictlystyles (2 years ago) #2709013I gotta tell you, I like your enthusiasm for wave as a company, but unless you work for them you have no idea what's working and not working for them pricewise. Right now they are experimenting with price points still, and in the long run I don't think this will work out for them. The general consensus from pretty much everybody is that these 1/10 figures aren't worth 6k, and they damn sure aren't worth 11k with polystone.
Everything that your saying about waves reasoning are sound but it just doesn't work for the bq series. It's not worth it for a mildly detailed 1/10 bikini figure with a good sculpt. It's just bad decisions on their part, and honestly if sales aren't what they should be for the next few months of releases I hope they drive the price down or put the resources into a different line of figures because I'll actually pay more money for a larger scale figure since I love wave figures.
But as this almost goes without saying, feel free to buy what you enjoy, but they aren't worth it to me to blow the same type of money I've put down on bq over the years (I have over 60)

They are not dumb, their board of directors will do what they believe is best for the company.
correct, I do not know the numbers behind it, but if it isn't working, they wouldn't keep raising the price. (maybe it works, maybe they are wrong and it doesn't work, no right or wrong, only time will tell)

They know all the costs behind it and many things comes in plays. We already talked about production costs due to exchange rates. But also, costs goes up at home too where workers will gradually demand greater salaries due to lower buying powers, same with other costs such as equipment, warehousing, or heck, maybe stakeholders of the company just wants more profit to offset the effects of weak yen.

This type of product is relatively inelastic as there are few alternatives.
Wave does a good job in turning many support characters into figure forms where as other companies only focuses on the main ones.

11k isn't worth it for polystone to you (and many people) correct. Is it worth it to me? possibly. If I like it, i'll still buy it, regardless of the size being 1/10 scale. in fact, I already have my eyes on a few of them.

Top line matters not if Bottom line suffers. They can have record sale, but at the end of the day, profit is what matters.

superunature (2 years ago) #2708810it is unfortunate for Japanese consumer in the short term yes, but you see, that's how economic works. it's inflation, everything inflates, including eventually, employee wages.
the increase wasn't overnight, same with figmas, it is increased few hundred yen at a time, and clearly they are seeing how it effects their bottom line. (it dosen't matter if they sell 10x as much but makes no profit) if their bottom line suffers because the price is too high? they will then lower the price.
Obviously price increase is currently working for them.
it'll happen gradually with all manufacturers, they exists to profit. If you don't like it? then your only choice is to collect older releases.

I personally will continue to support and buy what I like as long as the intrinsic value > actual price.
