At the very least Toy's Works knows what's up compared to MegaHouse.

You don't just make Victor.

YOU MAKE ALL OF THEM.

(So happy I can have a Victor and Yuuri from the same company :3)

Yuri with his hair slicked back looks like a slightly older, doujin version of Komatsu from Toriko THERE I'VE SAID IT.

Act (1 month ago) #18419969I don't own them, but looking at userpics, I'm super put off by their disproportionately tiny heads. > picture #1683081

I own them and the Alter scales - both have the same proportions. The bodys and heads are of the same size if you compare the two Rin figures. Sousuke's just really masculine with broad shoulders, that's probably what makes his head look tiny.
But Alter's face paint is better.
There are other Toy's Works figure though, where the faces are really nice. But they are all females or kids - guess they need to practice doing male faces. :')

TiggerShark (1 month ago) #18364003Out of curiosity, what was wrong with their free figures if they left such a negative impact on people?
I'm not familiar with toy's works at all, but I assumed their quality to be somewhat supbar from what I've seen on MFC. Still disappointed Alter didn't announce one, since they have the male figure line and all.. would take a YoI figure over yet another idol any day~
I'll keep on hoping, though~! Yuuri will get a lovely scale some day. He won't become another Kirito. (Who never ever gets a proper good looking scale despite everything)

For me I just didn't like the colours they used. They felt too saturated. The sculpt wasn't amazing but if the colours were a little less bright I would have liked them. (I did like the unpainted prototypes)

Which is why I scared about the Yuuri figure. The sculpt will probably be okay but I don't want to be out off by the colours again ;-;

Bad sculpt I can put up with. Bad colour choices just makes it so unappealing to me. (This is my opinion anyway, other people may look at them differently)

I really hope alter or GSC pick up YoI. Or that megahouse and koto continue to make more characters. As much as I like Viktor, Yuuri will always be number 1 to me ^u^

Nagara_Venteel (1 month ago) #18368690As far as the Free figures go, they looked cheap and shiny. The sculpts looked awkward, and the majority of them are very poor representations of the characters. Rin's face was pretty bad too. I just hope these ones look good. I have a Shana that they did and she looks really good.
In order to defend that "shiny" look of the Free! figures: The clothes (made of polyester fabric) shall appear soaked after a battle with the water guns. And since the rest (skin and hair) isn't shiny at all, I don't think the "shiny" thing is a lack of quality. Actually I really like that they did it this way, also the shininess isn't of the same intensity everywhere, which makes it more realistic.
But I agree with the faces. Rin's bonus face is nice, but the other one and those of the other boys could be a bit better. Same for the hair.

Kirito's new scale looks pretty good. Honestly it is my least favourite of his designs, but it certainly is not a bad looking figure. As far as the Free figures go, they looked cheap and shiny. I really don't like the Toys work Free figures (probably because compared to alters they aren't as good in my opinion).
I just hope this one will be good because so far they are the only company doing Yuuri ;-;
