Moro (7 months ago) #18826273Base stickiness update: The base is now so gooey it has left residue on the glass shelf and sticky strings if the figure is pulled off the base. It's like the base is melting. The only visual giveaway is the incredible sheen, like it's wet--prior to this it hadn't really looked different, but now you can tell something's up. This breakdown of the plastic is very aggressive despite Kaworu being just the same as when I got him.

I have the exact same problem with the "sticky" base. Kaworu is fine and dry, but the base feels like it's covered in a combination of honey and glue. My figure is in a windowless room, we have air conditioning so the house never gets above 75 degrees.

The stickiness is impossible to remove, I even tried Dawn dish soap and Dial hand soap, and nothing removes it. It leaves a residue on my hands too, and I have to scrub them to get the goop off.
I don't want to try anything caustic like paint thinner or acetone.

If anyone finds a solution to the goo please post here, thanks.

I haven't had any issues with his base doing this...perhaps yours is somehow defective? I also have loads of older figures and have never experienced anything but the occasional stickiness...can you share pics? O.o

Myka (7 months ago) #19163314Have you tried relocating him to another spot? Does it get hot inside your home? It definitely sounds like heat or sun exposure to me. One of the forums about sun exposure mentions that the sun will make the paint leak oil in the figures.
It can get pretty warm in the summer, but not horrendous. My assumption is that there's something in the chemical composition of the base that's causing the same minor amount of heat and light which has not affected other figures of equivalent age to have a greatly magnified effect. It's really quite strange.

Moro (7 months ago) #19156000The case it's in is diagonal to any windows and no direct light falls on the case even on the brightest days. And no other figures adjacent to him, even ones that are also very old, are experiencing the strangely aggressive breakdown.

Myka (7 months ago) #19130996I can't check mine currently, but is the figure in contact with the sun by any chance?
