SkiaEsh (1 day ago) #19228349I contacted Tap Plastics recently and whoever I got said they could not make custom plastic rods in that size. Did you email/call them at a specific email/number?

I filled out the order form from the same page I linked. In the length field I put "Other (specified in comments)", and when the comments came up, I put down how long I wanted them. They got back to me a bit later to confirm that a length outside their pre-sets would require an extra (small) fee, I accepted, and voila.

I'll be severely disappointed if they changed their stance on that. They're the only company that didn't ignore me completely :(

From what I've heard from others, my case wasn't even as THAT bad. Here are after rod photos for comparison:

The main point too look out for is her spine. It should be relatively straight. If yours looks fine, I'd recommend not fiddling with her or you might cause the lean, like it happened to me.
If it IS leaning, I got my rods from TAP plastics ([ext link ]). They were the only company I got a hold of that'd let me decide a custom length for the rods for a small extra fee. You want a rod length of 13cm, diameter should be relatively small like 8-10mm. The folks at TAP should be able to hook you right up with the needed rod.
Other than that, I recommend getting some foam pads for both ends of the rod to avoid scratching. I personally got some relatively large square ones off ebay and used scissors to get them the right size, you'll want to either get ones that are adhesive on only one side (the rod side), or double sided but keeping the protective paper on the side you're gonna prop her up with so she doesn't get all adhesive and stuff under there. I'd also recommend them being a bit on the thicker side so they really cushion her well and avoid the edges, I cut my pads a bit larger than the actual rod so there'd be excess draping over the edge for extra safety, but that might be overkill, not 100% sure :V
Then just put the thing in. You may need to place it at a bit of an angle due to the curved base, so it doesn't slide off, but it's not too hard :)

Halcione (10 days ago) #19001549I considered this approach too, but I backed off at the end. Since her dress is kinda uneven and at an angle, I didn't think it'd rest properly and could slide down and scrape itself. How did you manage? Is that spot on the dress even enough for this, or did you use plenty of padding, or even neither and I was just being paranoid? :x

I just stuck the stand into a dress gap and be done with it. It seemed to balance fine since it's across to where her pegs are. Her dress isn't slippery enough for it to slide off (hasn't slipped yet for the last half year and if it did, i don't think there'll be any damage)

I took some more pictures since it probably does a better job than my explanation.

Alsoar (10 days ago) #19001170An alternative to supporting her buttocks is supporting her dress instead.
The dress on mine almost touched the ground, so i grabbed the support stand from Exelica since she didn't needed it.
I haven't had any issues for the last 6 months, so it seems to be working.

Tomoe (22 days ago) #18681845Can somebody tell me or show me a picture to let me know how bad her lean is? I'm a little paranoid about my Homura since I think mine has started to lean too but it must've happened over such a slow period of time that I can't even tell if mine is normal or not :x I think I'd like a custom rod for her too just to help support her - if anybody has any good recommendations for getting a good rod in the US please let me know!

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't have a horror story about her. I've had her for a year and a half, in a room with horrible temperature control, and one trip moving to a new apartment, and she's barely leaning. If it comes down to it, I may drill a little hole into her dress and through the pegs and add some small metal rods, but I think I have at least another year before it comes to that. It looks like the pegs just aren't deep enough and the holes are getting a little loose, so it may even be enough to just use some classic liquid nails construction glue to secure her nice and flat onto the pegs and base. I'm never selling her, so I don't have to worry about fixing her up a little as long as the improvements aren't visible.

I'm also a little surprised at the price increase. I got her for $150 (and free shipping by tricking the system) from Rightstuf, and now she's listed as $200 (and obviously out of print).

As someone who got a support rod for her, I can testify that it's really not an end-of-the-world thing. There's recommendations below in the comment section of companies you can commission one from with the specific length required. All you gotta do is put a foam pad on the end and shove it up her butt. It doesn't take a particular knack for craftsmanship.

However, as a perfectionist myself, I do think it's a rather major problem. Sure she looks absolutely freaking fantastic still and am still happy to own her, but she'd look a lot better without the support, and I'd be happier if she didn't need it. I also recognize that some people may take issue with spending over $200 on a figure and then be required to spend more to get her to stay the hell still.

In layman's terms: Mom? Dad? Stop fighting ;-;
