Keripo (3 months ago) #2637346The price ends up being the same or more expensive if you are shipping over a lot of heavy stuff (e.g. books and doujinshis), unless you do shipment by sea, which could take months. Plus you get to unpack things the moment you arrive. This only works for the first 2 luggage bags or so though before the added luggage price becomes ridiculous (and off course, you only have two hands).

Sorry, busy at work.
I agree. I did contemplate to mail loot (not just anime stuff but other travel souvenirs) instead of bringing them with me to the airplane. Books are really heavy. There was once I almost exceeded my luggage weight.
Another concern is, if it is too heavy, the custom folks will pay attention to you more :P

Ya, you are right. And you get to own a suitcase instead of owning a delivery/packaging box from the post office. So you are also saying that the postage is expensive?
I guess you have spare luggage weight for your flight back home such that you could purchase that suitcase?

Keripo (4 months ago) #2611299I bought the hard shell suitcases from Don Quiote (discount chain store in Japan) for 6k yen ~$60 USD) as paying for a second 50lb luggage bag is cheaper than any form of mail.

tanaka (4 months ago) #2611289Haha! I have been asking a silly question :P
The books are heavy, probably around 10kg? Since you put it inside the suitcase, I am sure you had to check it in during your flight. Were you using a tough suitcase? Reason I am asking is that suitcases are prone to damage during baggage loading. They don't handle the baggage as per postal services folks I guess. So if I am going to do that, I may need to pad the books to protect them...

tanaka (4 months ago) #2605751Ya, I am thinking of whether to do it this way. I am checking the cost of splitting them to see if it is worthwhile. Sometimes, consolidated/combined shipping (which in this case, the set is already combined) is cheaper, depending on the shipping method.
Since you bought it directly from the shop, was it heavy for you to transport it back home to USA?

Suitcase :)

Keripo (4 months ago) #2595046My set was wrapped together as a bundle, but you can send them an email and ask I guess (or put it in the order comments).

Keripo (4 months ago) #2591875If you aren't picky about condition, 16k yen is definitely a good price. Just keep in mind shipping costs as the books are quite heavy.
~Keripo

Ya, 16k is a good price compared to what you have paid earlier. However, based on the original retail price, the total is around 15,400yen. Since this is pre-owned, I am concerned about the condition. If I buy them as a set, I wonder if the online shop allows splitting of the books for cheaper shipping?

tanaka (4 months ago) #2591560Excellent stuff Keripo! Many many thanks!
Your explanation above plus the links really helped to clarify the situation I am having :)
You are indeed a connoisseur that I could refer to.
I will seek Soth's advice separately.
Btw, I found a 2nd hand used set of 5 books with a price of 16000y. Do you think this is a good price?
Thanks.

Keripo (4 months ago) #2584919I bought all of mine as a set from Mandarake in person for 35k yen (~$350 USD, grade B, noticeable wear on some of the book's corners). The full set consists of item #44055 item #44040 item #53095 item #104449 and item #97297. The non-standard edition of IV (item #73635) comes with a box that holds I-III together as well as a bonus Fate/side side materiale complete book, meaning the full set will land you with I-III + materiale complete in a box and IV and V without any box. If you collect all five Fate/complete material books and the Fate/side side materiale complete bonus book, you will pretty much have all official Fate print material from TYPE-MOON from 2004 to 2012. If you want to go slightly beyond TYPE-MOON's original content, there's also Fate/Zero's material item #52642 and Fate/Extra and Fate/Extra CCC's material item #166249. If you go backwards a bit, there's also Character Material item #72047 which covers some-what Fate related material (such as Fate/Prototype) along with a bunch of Tsukihime and various other stuff.
MFC unfortunately is still missing a good number of older TYPE-MOON print material but if you really want to cross-check, I'd recommend checking out Tsuki-kan's DB as well as Soth's blog (he was the one who added probably 90% of the older TYPE-MOON-related MFC entries here and has a far more comprehensive collection than me - he also has a spreadsheet somewhere but I can't find the link).
As for the question of whether or not it's "worth it", that depends entirely on you :)

Keripo (4 months ago) #2568904Sure, ask away! I'm only familiar with the older stuff though - ever since ufotable's Fate/zero anime adaptation aired and Fate/Extra was released, tons of new Fate material has been coming out, far more than I can keep up with >_<
~Keripo

Thanks :)
Ya, there is so much stuff that I have problems navigating.
Currently, I am checking out the Fate complete material artbooks (I am late in considering them, don't ask me why, haha). I saw that you have a set.
Question, do all of them come with the wraparound band? Are they worth collecting as compared to figures?

Happy New Year!
I saw your TM collection especially Fate and I am very impressed.
Am wondering if I could seek your advice on some artbooks for Fate?
Thanks
