I would like to go ahead and leave feedback as a buyer on a sales transaction, since it was not officially listed as an MFC sale. Moro is an awesome seller. A lot of care was taken to protect the item during transport and it was shipped very quickly. Thanks so much, I would purchase from you again in a heartbeat! :)
Moro (1 month ago) #24307382Haha luckily I don't anticipate that problem--I'm not the one responsible for most of the putting the house together, so it isn't on me to figure things out, so therefore I can't get stuck not knowing where something goes. The new house was about a 30 minute drive from the old house, but it's on the other side of the river in the northeast heights of the city (the city is up against a mountain range.) It's an area of town to which I'm more accustomed because other than the previous house, I always lived more in that area. So it feels familiar already.
Ooooh, exciting! I'll definitely pick up a copy of item #263012 next time I make a Toranoana order... C92 is soon so I might be making an order later this month, in fact. The other Calne books I can probably pick up off Amazon.jp? What's the summary of the origin book? o:
Oh god it's the worst when they flake last minute. Then it's a huge scramble to get things sorted in time... I hope you're able to find a good photographer on such short notice.
...I somehow always forget you are married so for a split second I read "wedding ring" and thought, what? when did she get married? (facepalm)
Ooooh those do look nice, the lighting matches what I'm going to do to my cases once they're all put in place. As for my display instead of lining up my cases all in a row like it was at the old house, they will be all over the place. I've also commandeered some enclosed (glass door) shelves in the TV room and will put lights and figures in them too. The house is going to have my collection distributed throughout. I want to make a dedicated display for my gtekketsu mice (the second box just came in yesterday, but I didn't open it since I can't display them yet anyway...)
Ah, my husband and I divided the workload, but I have the problem that my collection is so big, so I'm spending more time on unpacking anyway than he does. ^^'' As I maybe mentioned before I'm also cleaning up a lot and selling/trading, so I'm sorting through my collection like that too. With some figures not even getting unboxed and just thrown in the selling pile. Unfortunately selling online hasn't gone that smoothly recently. :/ I will have a stand at an upcoming con soon and I hope that I can get rid of a lot of small stuff there.
And that's nice! I can imagine you feel more at home even though it's a new place! ^^ I hope everything is sorted out soon and you will also have a nice way to display your collection there~
I am maybe a bit biased with Dolomite, because I'm such a huge fan of nurse Calne, haha! But the quality is very high, so if you can get it for a fair price: go for it! :) As for the Calne manga: Yes, I regularly see second hand ones sold on Amazon.JP. I picked up mine from Suruga-ya!
I thought the origin book was very sweet~ It's about a young boy who sees his friend getting run over by a car. And then I mean all gory, with her head flying around. He grabs the half that is left over from the head and nurtures it. Eventually giving the bottom of the head 'legs' and slowly the head becoming more and more like the Ca we know. So the young boy ends up being the scientist responsible for making the full mechanised skeleton-Ca. Seeing that cute origin actually made me a bit annoyed at the first book, where Ca ignores everything her scientist says and just gets herself killed every time. :P I don't think that until this manga there was a story anywhere that told about her origin so specifically. Mostly it's just hinted that she was put together somewhere and she is 'just' a skeleton.
I maybe could have expected it, because it's a pretty good photographer that skips out on cons more if another deal comes up for him where he can earn more money... He's a fan-photographer, but he is trying to make photography his paid job, so it's understandable that he would flake out for an opportunity like that. I actually should have thought about a backup. ^^'' If I can't manage to find one anymore I'll just make some selfies and re-wear the outfit to another event, where I will do a second try for a photographer. :P
Haha, a lot of people tend to forget, but that does not matter. xD We got married on very short notice while we were in the middle of buying our house and planning the renovations. So it was also very weird for us, that I sometimes think 'damn, I'm already married for more than 1,5 years', haha! Times goes so fast!
I looooooooove the lights in my detolfs. <3 It's exactly what I wanted! And that is also nice! If I lived by myself, I would probably have scattered detolfs too. I do am planning on at least one detolf in our living room, next to our videogame-collection I want most of my videogame-related collection displayed. :) My horor- and horror-style-looking collection is also growing a lot, so I would like a seperate display for that too. Maybe in another corner of our living room or in our bedroom~ Oh! Does your new house have a lot of different rooms? :) Maybe a good place for your mice is in the TV room displays you talked about? If you could make a diorama like the promo pictures, that would be incredibly cute!
Moro (1 month ago) #24208440FINALLY I HAVE TIME TO REPLY....
Guess what.... I moved houses! We moved into a new house that's more than 2x as big as the old place and it's been super chaos trying to get everything set up and stuff.
What a great outfit! I love the pill necklace... I like jewelry but to wear myself I really can't be arsed lol.
I don't currently have any pics of my Iron-Blooded mice... in fact they along with all my other figures are still packed as we haven't put my display cases in place yet, so I can't start putting up my figures ;;; suffering while I wait for other parts of the house to be put together first!
Oooh! Congratulations! :D I hope you will enjoy your new place! And I fully understand, I moved over a year ago and still did not do a lot of the things I wanted to do (hang a clock, frame some artworks, replace some of the furniture, sell of a bunch of figures, display my current collection etc.), so yeah. xD Is your new place in a very different location or close to your old place?
Very coincidentally item #428453 , item #428455 and item #263012 got delivered today! :D And wow, am I impressed with all 3 of them! 10000% recommend for you too!
item #263012 is just stunning, the artworks are amazing and the paper/print is very high quality, the images look so crisp. A lot of the artworks are with Calne in versions of her nurse outfit, which is my favorite as you probably have guessed lol. Also a lot of the Christmas artworks are in there.
item #428453 we earlier talked about and is about Calne getting in trouble (and eventually dying at the end of each story) because she is trying to get the attention of a cute boy in class. For item #428455 I did not know the plot yet. I expected it to be similar to the first book, but actually it's one long story with a variation of Calne's origin. It's quite sweet actually. <3 (I'm not sure if you want some spoilers or not, let me know if you want a summary.)
And thank you! :D Unfortunately for me the photographer I was meeting with for that outfit just cancelled earlier today, urgh. Which gives me 3 weeks to find a new (not already fully booked) one for the convention. :T But putting that aside, I'm very excited to wear the outfit! As for jewellery myself, I always wear my wedding ring, but other jewellery I'm very inconsistent with. When I have something new I wear it a lot, to then fully forget about it in a few weeks. ^^''
Lol, don't stress about that! My collection is now...25% displayed after more than a year. :P Do you have any big plans for displays? This is how the progress at my place currently looks! 8D
Moro (2 months ago) #23588602I just now realized that I never replied to the last comment. Oh well.
The mice & cats are really cute. For such small figures the paint details look great and each one comes with a tiny illustration. I have the other set preordered and I hope they make more!
Oh, I don't think there was much important in it. And cosplay-wise Calne won't have much updates soon. Here is what I did for my J-Fashion Menhera/Gurokawa outfit if you are interested in that: [ext link ]
Did you make any pictures of your own set displayed? :) I think the idea of them is so cute, even though they are a bit...different haha!
How is this set encyclopedia #111140 by the way? The whole idea of them still seems quite bizarre to me, haha!
Moro (2 months ago) #23167541As a teenager I always wanted straight hair, although these days I've made my peace with my circumstances lol. I bet when your hair gets oily it's still not that noticeable to other people unless maybe they are REALLY close to you. But it always feels gross when your hair is oily so i understand anyway. My hair tends to be dry but I do live in a DESERT so...
I will share pics with you if I put together such an outfit! I don't think you should feel like you're too old to cosplay... Ultimately it's about having fun and if you're still enjoying it that is what matters the most!!
Nah I was less thinking in the itabag outfit direction and more like trying to capture a certain aesthetic... I already made that Tekkadan vest so I have one thing there already! Maybe a necklace with blue and yellow for Mika and Orga's eyes..? I'll have to think on it!
Wow I had no idea it was an issue there too, though it sounds like you guys deal with it way more effectively than the USA. People rarely get banned from cons here even for bad behavior...unless criminal charges enter into it, but that doesn't always happen, sometimes people just get annoyed and don't bother to press charges.
Ooh yes I look forward to it!
I did, went out to my favorite restaurant. I made a strawberry upside down cake...But I messed it up somehow and it fell flat :(
I hear that a lot from people with curls: how they would prefer straight hair! I can imagine that it can be frustrating that you can get less haircuts, BUT I think that well maintained curls can look so pretty! I have a family member with a pretty curly half-afro and I am so jealous of how her hair looks so fluffy and big! My hair is always just...hanging there haha.
Yeah, I don't think much people notice the oily-ness of my hair, it's more a thing that I know from myself and get myself irritated about. So you just feel in need of a shower. :P And yeah wow, I can imagine almost everyone having super dry hair. It must be pretty hard for everyone's skin too I think? Do you have to take special measures for it? Like rub your face in vaseline every day or something like that?
Hrmm, it's more that I feel a bit weird as some characters? When I recently cosplayed Ink, she is a loli in a school uniform. I was still young looking enough too pass, but there are some pictures from at the end of a con day where I am tired (and thus look older) and it makes me look a bit like a creep wearing such a cutesy kiddy outfit haha. I won't ban cosplaying loli's, but I rather not cosplay too cute outfits anymore. xD Luckily Ink also has a super nice armor outfit that I would like to make in a few years. And that armor outfit uses parts of her original outfit (which I own now) as a cape and layering. Here is her original outfit: item #738 and this is how the backside of the armor looks: picture #1091111 Gosh I love that armor so much, the more I look at it...but NO. Calne comes first! And after that I am planning to make a cosplay of my own Elin character from TERA, especially considering that I have the fabric for that one stored a while here now, but other projects came first... *cough*
Ah~ That's also a nice idea, I am curious what you come up with! For my own J-Fashion outfit I recently also made my first necklace (a choker) and it was easier to make than expected actually! Also it's small crafts. So even if you or me would mess up, not much of value is lost and it was just to learn/test. ;) As a cosplayer, working with expensive materials such as Worbla freaks me out.
It's very different though, as our 'creepers' are more hidden, while in the USA they seem to be more grabby/touchy. Also if someone gets busted he (sorry, but they are always guys) gets banned from the specific con. So it can take years before someone is banned from most of our major events. I still see our most famous foot fetisj guy regularly at small events, even though he has been banned from our 2 biggest conventions for 5(+? even) years.
Lol yeah, I can't really imagine calling the police at a con because someone felt the need to grab my butt. They are never going to find the people anyway. But even if I knew and/or cornered the guy(s?) that did that to me, I wouldn't know what to say or do haha. It was just a weird experience, I am not offended or mentally scarred. :P But I can imagine it would be infuriating if that is a normal thing every time I would visit a convention.
Great news! I just bought them and I also managed to snag item #263012 , which is a collection of CG artwork from Deino. There should be quite some artworks with nurse Calne inside. :)
What kind of restaurant is your favorite one? :) And ooh, I never heard of that cake before, so I googled it and it looks so pretty! And aww, even if the looks weren't what you expected I hope/expect the taste was still nice?
Moro (2 months ago) #22983811I've done a couple of cosplays where I could use my normal hair, but my bright red hair is short and densely wavy, so it isn't terribly cooperative to style for characters with hair that isn't wavy. I can certainly straighten my hair but it takes a surprisingly long time.
Oooohhh I never even thought of that. Well, kawoshin outfit would almost be cheating... There's so many clothes and accessories from the Eva Store that are Kaworu and Shinji themed, including a matching set of WEDDING RINGS. I could put an outfit together entirely from the Eva Store clothes, lol.
An orumika outfit is doable... it would actually be quite practical! Thanks for the idea!! I most likely won't make it to any cons this year, but now I have something to work towards for next one I attend!
Oh yeah, the cosplay is not consent thing is overblown with respect to actual groping, but not at all overblown in terms of people just... Messing with things. Horns, wings, crown, any accessories are particularly vulnerable to people's grabby hands.
Well, I'll await updates in due time! And thank you for the birthday wishes :D
I have the blessing and curse of fast-grown straight hair. I can do a lot of haircuts, but my biggest weak point is my hair getting oily/dirty looking easily. At the end of a normal day my hair looks like how a regular person looks if he/she didn't shower for multiple days. :/ So yeah combine that with how hot and sweaty cons can be and I'll spare you the rest of the details lol. Most of the cosplays with my own hair were characters with hat/caps and masks. *cough* It still beats how annoying a wig can feel after a day of wearing!
THERE ARE OFFICIAL KAWOSHIN WEDDING RINGS?! Dayum. *googles* [ext link ] Hrrmm, they are made by 'the Kiss'. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Jokes aside, they really look fancy, I dig the design in general, anime-related or not.
Hey, that is nice to hear that I sparked interest there! :D If you end up doing it, show me picturessss! For me, I have been showing more interest in J-Fashion in general lately. I love cosplaying, but sometimes feel a bit too old for it. And while I get older, the characters I love do not. :') And with the ita-everything trend right now, it's a perfect thing for hoarders collectors of character(s)-specific merchandise! :D Are you gonna hang some orumika doujins on your outfit too? :D
My butt actually got groped twice at cons in the USA (one time at each con I visited). One time I did not see the culprit, because it was in a crowd, but the second time I called the guy out on it and he made a run for it. :/ I'm not offended or traumatized at all (more like 'wtf? why would you do that to a stranger?), but it is...weird. In the Netherlands we have a way smaller community and the worst things that happen is that every once in a while fetishist turn up to make pictures for their website without the cosplayers knowing they will be on such a website (and I don't mean the general interest websites, I mean the type of websites where people post super rude comments about the people in the pictures and try to find personal info from them). Most of them were foot-fetish sites, but we also had one for hands and eyebrows (with that last one I had nooooo clue that was a thing until I found the site). Once a fetishist gets busted, they get banned from the type of con (example: anime cons), but most of them will just try again at other types of events to find the specific outfits/people they want (fantasy events, alternative fashion events, tattoo cons etc.).
Considering Calne I am currently planning on a proxy order in which I will pick up item #428453 and item #428455 ! I will let you know once I get them! :)
No problem! :D Did you have a nice birthday? And what kind of cake did you have if you bought/made one? :)
Moro (2 months ago) #22725239Wigs being irritating is pretty much the biggest reason I end up not doing cosplay, when it comes down to it. Even if I didn't have to do any work to make it, such as having someone else make it for me, having to wear the wig would still suck. (Shoes are another huge annoyance. Finding shoes that look acceptable and don't kill to wear walking around at a con all day is entirely too difficult.)
People shouldn't be touching your cosplay anyway! I hate when I see people doing that. It's so rude, why would you think someone being in a costume means you can mess with parts of the costume without permission? Baffling.
The isopod doesn't look BAD so if you don't end up getting to it I don't think it's the end of the world. But I look forward to seeing further progress regardless of what you do and the timing.
Well, I have done quite some costumes without wigs, but it really depends on your hair-type and haircut if you can pull it off. Depending on which haircut I take, I can only wear a certain costume for a few months for example. xD For the best look a wig is always recommended, but don't feel like there is a 'need' to always have a wig with every character. With some more natural-looking characters it's better to have your own hair, just like my costume of a movie character I recently did.
Cosplaying has learned me to walk in many different types of shoes. xD But most indeed tire my feet. I do like my school-uniform-style shoes that I bought for Ink and can wear with multiple other outfits. :)
My solution for you: You could hop onto the ita-train and make an over the top (J-Fashion) outfit from your favorite character/ship/series! :D I have seen many cute examples of this! Moro in kawoshin themed outfit when.
Ah, luckily in the Netherlands people aren't that touchy (even though I had it happening a few times, especially people grabbing gloves???), but the time I visited the US and went to 2 cons: WOAH. I mean, people say that 'cosplay is not consent' is a crybaby thing, but in the USA you guys need it damn. When I was there as Lilith I had a lot of people touching my wings, just stop that.
Hehe, I have a pile of 'this is good enough for now, but if I have time I should improve it'-parts, where the isopod is also in. xD My opinion changed a bit since my last message and now I am thinking of making it dark silver as a base anyway.
For now I'll have to disappoint you a bit: for at least the next 2 months I have put Calne on hold because I want to work on 2 other outfits (that require a lot less work lol) + a wig commission I have for a big con at the end of august. But after that I will soon rush to working on Calne again! :D
And omg, I am late:
Haaaaaaaappy Birthday Moro-Sempai!!!!!! ♥♥♥ 1 thousand hearts! hope you had a great day!
Happy birthday Moro!
Happy Birthday my friend!!!
OK NOT LATE XD... But I still want to say Happy Birthday! O(∩_∩)O
Ah so a little birdie told me that it was your birthday so I wanted to drop in and celebrate with you. I hope that you have had a wonderful day and that this evening will be one to remember.
Happy Birthday !!!!
Happy birthday :DD
Happy birthday! :D
Moro (3 months ago) #22558374Cosplay is suffering. That's what I've heard from every cosplayer. Even the cosplays that seem like they aren't going to be too bad usually end up having something that's a pain in the ass.
I agree the slightly grainy finish really enhances the look, worbla would be too smooth and glossy to look like real bone (source: hours and hours spent working with real human bone.)
The sculpt on the isopod looks great but I do think it's too light with a white base. I think with the light grey wig, at a distance it might blend in too much. I think preshading with a dark base such as a dark grey or even black and then layers of progressively lighter greys (to get highlights) would be your best bet for an accurate look. And all the layered greys would make it look more naturally grungy as well.
Yeaaaahh even the more 'casual' outfits I wore had something uncomfortable, such as annoying shoes, a long wig or something like that. Soon I will debut the menhera/gurokawa outfit I have been planning and all the pieces are very comfortable clothing (just like menhera is supposed to be super comfy and casual), but even here I am scared there will be something that will be uncomfortable after multiple hours of wearing. Welp.
Hehe, thanks! That's a very nice compliment to get from someone that has worked with a lot of bones! :D The material is not bone-like at all when it comes to touch, but the look from a distance is good. 8)
Thanks for your input! Right now I'm leaning more towards a dark grey as base color, but black could also work. I also have some dark silver (darker silver than where I am painting the robotic parts in), but I don't want the ispod to become sparkly shiny so I guess I will skip that paint. I think it will mainly become handpainting with a lot of mixing and thinning down the color. I'll try to think of sharing the picture with you once I repainted it! :D But for now I want to put my upcoming free time into sanding and painting the bigger mechanical parts before I re-work some older (almost finished) parts. :)
Moro (3 months ago) #22238089Wooooowww!!! Those look so amazing, especially the mask and how you were able to give the bones nice shading. Are they really durable enough now that they've been encased in layers of clearcoat/reinforced? They look so delicate still.
Thank you! <3 I am currently busy on seeing what would be the best fit for wearing the mask. I knew beforehand it wasn't going to be super comfortable, but it's maybe going to be even more annoying than I thought. But at least I'm going to look cool??
Both the bones themselves and the paint on it is very thoroughly sealed, so they are 100% waterproof, which is nice. I am not expecting to wear it in the rain, but the Netherlands is known for random showers. :P The bones themselves can be dropped without them breaking or getting dents, but as you said they are not completely super sturdy if you would apply force to them. To get the last weakness away I would have had to make them with different material. Or maybe have them covered in Worbla, but that makes you lose detail and they would probably look to smooth for bones. I like the 'gritty' look of this material.
That said, could I get your honest opinion on this?
My wig is going to be light-grey for reference. So this color should still stand out quite a bit, but I am not really convinced this is the way to go. I thought white would be a good base to shade on, but I think it's still too pale.
