Ichiban Kuji Premium, A Prize Figure (Banpresto)
See this post and more at Keripo's Corner

A lottery prize figure from Banpresto for TYPE-MOON's 10th Anniversary event. Non-canon but still pretty beautiful-looking outfit design, but with some QC issues.

Elegant non-canon Saber figure wielding Caliburn

This is just the first of a long series of post-unboxing, backlogged TYPE-MOON figure reviews. After moving to my new place, I set up a nice corner of the room for figure photography and took a bunch of review-style photo sets of figures as I re-unboxed them. Most of these figures are second hand, B/B grade, so keep that in mind when going through the photos.

Notice the crappy paint job? :(
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385350675.jpeg

The connection between the big blue bow and the skirt isn't too strong... mine's already starting to crack
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385351055.jpeg

Skirt goes ontop the legs, not too stably though

Base with an ugly-looking support stand
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385350521.jpeg

At the bottom of the feet are holes that fit snuggly into the base's pegs

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385350985.jpeg

Supposedly that weird-shaped support stand is sculpted to hold the bows... maybe my bow was a bit disfigured but it definitely didn't feel like it fit at all. I just removed the stand since the figure has decent enough balance that a stand isn't needed.

Torso #1, for single-handed sword wielding - looks really unnatural

Comparison of the two torsos
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385350819.jpeg

Oh boy, Banpresto totally screwed up with the face... (or maybe I'm just used to GSC's Saber faces). Either way, the face/hair/ponytail combo doesn't match any of the existing Sabers (Blue/Zero, Lily, Red/Nero/Bride, Alter) so I guess Banpresto could have done whatever they wanted...

On to the weapons. Here's Caliburn
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/Keripo1385350511.jpeg

Excalibur Proto in activation 1 form (Invisible Air removed). Note that Excalibur Proto is the weapon wielded by the original, male Saber in Fate/Prototypes (i.e. Nasu's original Saber before Takeuchi said "Stfu Nasu, we are turning Fate into an eroge" and he genderswapped King Arthur)

Excalibur Proto in activation 2 form (Restraints of the Round Table lock removed). The Excalibur of Fate/stay night does not have this secondary seal.

Kattu (4 years ago) #1856754Thank you for the review.
I'm on the fence with this figure since I'd like to have it for my collection, but on the other hand the quality doesn't match up with the price whatsoever.
Would you say this figure looks pretty good in her original box more than being out where she can be admired up close?

She definitely feels like a better boxed-up-shelf decoration than a display figure, cause the more closely I look at it, the more I regret getting it xD That said, I unbox and display all my figures (or am trying to right now, slowed down by my figure photography backlog), so I would never get a figure that I'd just keep in a box. Figures want to be free!

Nice review :)
I was interested in buyin' this figures but after seeing all these painting/sculpting faults (but I guess it's kinda 'normal' for an Ichiban Kuji) I'll try to get her for cheap/reasonable price - I have to say that proto-Excalibur looks truly awesome! *^* and it's probably the only reason that keeps me longing this figure so bad!
