Kotobukiya 1/6 Nono NekomiyaKotobukiya 1/6 Nono Nekomiya

Today we'll be reviewing one of the cuter swimsuit figures out there, Kotobukiya's Nono Nekomiya. She's a fairly modest swimsuit figure, but if you consider such things at all NSFW, now's your chance to turn back...

About the character: First, I must admit that I wasn't very knowledgeable about the character or her origins when I bought this figure, so I had to do a bit of research about her. Feel free to correct me if I get anything completely wrong...

Nono Nekomiya
is the main female character from Yotsunoha. Apparently, Yotsunoha was a visual novel which later spawned an all-ages version for the PS2, which in turn yielded a two-episode anime adaptation. Yotsunoha tells the story of friends who reunite after being separated for a number of years, and Nono is the prototypical "childhood friend" character. Apparently, she is quite good at domestic tasks, and she is bothered a little bit by her very small stature...

About the figure: This figure was originally released way back in August 2008, and she got a re-release in March of 2012 as well as a color variant.

Now that I've shown off how little I know about the franchise, let's proceed to the actual review!

Packaging----------8.5/10

The front of the box features a large window, giving a good view of the adorable Nono.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632450.jpeg

The sides of the box feature cute clover shaped windows.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632452.jpeg

I got this figure pre-owned on AmiAmi (figure:A/box:B), and you can see that somewhere along the way, the edges of the clover got scuffed up a bit. That's really the only damage I could find to the box, so it was a pretty good B-grade box.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632454.jpeg

The back of the box is kind of fun. The English text is certainly out of the ordinary, and it's kind of funny how Kotobukiya points out the various moe-points of the figure (although surprisingly, they don't point out her cat ears!). There's the small window that gives a view of her tail, and there are references to her school swimsuit and thigh-high socks.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632456.jpeg

I have to say that I like the design of the box quite a bit. Someone at Kotobukiya had some fun with this!

Posing----------8.5/10

Let's take a look at Nono.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632576.jpeg

I think that Nono's pose is a highlight of the figure. It's not a dynamic pose, but it is not without interesting features, as Nono is shyly clutching her tail and tugging at her swimsuit. As I noted at the beginning of the review, I'm not too knowledgeable about the character, but her pose certainly exudes cuteness and shyness.

Sculpting----------7.5/10
Painting----------9/10

Overall, Kotobukiya did a pretty nice job with her finish. We'll see there are a couple of significant flaws with her sculpt, but overall the paintwork is solid.

A close-up of Nono. I think her face is super cute, and she's conveying a number of emotions. She seems to be a little bit embarrassed and she looks kind of shy, yet she still looks happy. However, one flaw that stands out is that chipped paint on her tail.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632606.jpeg

A closer shot of Nono's face, and you can see there's quite a bit of shading in her hair. If her hair was just flat brown, it would have been boring. You can, however, see a few rough spots on the ends of her hair.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632608.jpeg

The shot below illustrates the biggest flaw with the figure. Nono has an ahoge, but it looks like Koto drilled a hole in her head and then just sort of planted an sprig of hair in there.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632610.jpeg

I think Nono's side ponytail is quite cute.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632612.jpeg

There's a pretty noticeable seam in her hair. Also, that texture in her hair looks a little bit strange. It almost looks like a Klingon forehead...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632614.jpeg

A couple more rough spots in her hair are visible here, and she has a visible seam on her shoulder. I do like the red and white ribbons though, as well as the antique-look finish on the bells.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632669.jpeg

The back of Nono's hair. Again, I think the shading is pretty well done.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632671.jpeg

I like the way that Nono is clutching at her swimsuit, presumably trying to cover herself up. It furthers the mood of slight embarrassment that the figure gives off.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632673.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632675.jpeg

This would be a feature that could easily go wrong, but you can see that her hand is actually grasping the bottom of her swimsuit. A nice touch.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632677.jpeg

The way that Nono is tugging at her swimsuit, there would definitely be some wrinkling in the fabric. I also like the little tag at the bottom. The tag is painted on; there's no depth to it, in case you were wondering.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632712.jpeg

Generally, her sculpt is pretty good, but you can see that seam line on her shoulder again.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632714.jpeg

That seam on her tail is pretty conspicuous.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632716.jpeg

Another one of the primary moe points of the figure is Nono's thigh-high stockings, and there are several nice subtle things going on in the shot below. I like the bright white color of her socks. In addition, the slight rumpling of the fabric behind her knee is nicely done, and I like how the socks are compressing her thighs a little bit. You can, however, see a little bit of a seam running down her leg.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632718.jpeg

The transition between her tail and the rest of her body is done nicely.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632755.jpeg

Her swimsuit is pretty snug-fitting. You can a see a little excess glue where her swimsuit meets her upper back.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632757.jpeg

Her stockings come to a very sharp point down the back of her leg. It looks pretty odd in person.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1386632759.jpeg

I do like the fact that her swimsuit has trim on it around the edges. This would be a feature that would be very easy to overlook.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632761.jpeg

Overall, her finish is pretty good, but there are definitely some high and low points.

Good points: the shading in her hair, her pose and facial expression are very cute, and there are some nice details (the trim on her swimsuit and the way her stockings are done).

Bad points: the way her ahoge was seemingly done as an afterthought, some visible seams, that issue on the back of her ankle.

I'd say that overall the good outweighs the bad. I own many Kotobukiya figures, and I'd say she is slightly above average in overall finish relative to the other Koto figures that I own.

Base----------8.5/10

Not having played the Yotsunoha visual novel and not having seen the anime, I can't say for sure, but I assume the clover theme on the base is significant. It is interesting that the clover is raised; it's not simply painted on. At the least, it's not just a boring white disk.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632795.jpeg

Nono comes pre-attached to the base. Looking at the bottom of the base, I'd assume that she is screwed into the base, and that those rectangular pieces hide the attachment points.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632797.jpeg

Overall, it's a functional and distinctive base. Despite the fact that Nono is 1/6, her base is not excessively large. At its widest point, the base is about 4 3/4 inches (about 12 cm) in diameter.

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9/10

Before we get to the overall wrap-up, let's talk about her scale for a moment.

Kotobukiya lists Nono at 1/6 scale. I measure her height at right about 9 inches (about 23 cm), and the way she has her knees bent, the total length of her body from head to toe is about 9.25 inches. At 1/6 scale, that would make her about 4'7" in height which seems consistent with the fact that she is unusually small in stature. It would mean that she's an inch or so shorter than Taiga Aisaka, another similarly petite character. For reference, Koto's Taiga shown below is also 1/6.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632941.jpeg

Because of her small stature, Nono will be comparable in size to most 1/7 scale figures.

Nono and Koto's Yayoi Takatsuki. The two of them are quite cute together, don't you think? Note that Yayoi is 1/7 scale.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386632981.jpeg

Nono and Koto's 1/7 Kirino Kohsaka.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386633017.jpeg

These two complement each other surprisingly well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386633141.jpeg

Catgirls of all scales and sizes. Kuroneko is 1/8, Nagi is 1/7, Nono is 1/6, and Italia-san is 1/9.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/victorviper1386633261.jpeg

Overall, I'd say this Nono is really an excellent figure. The quality of her finish is very good, and I like the tongue-in-cheek way that Koto points out all of her moe points. She is pretty modest for a swimsuit figure, as the figure really plays up Nono's cuteness. It is fairly rare for me to buy a figure of a character that I am unfamiliar with, but she looked sufficiently adorable that I decided that she needed to be mine. Nono was a purchase which has yielded no regrets.

Availability (as of this writing)

Possible to find pre-owned with some diligence.

For a while, it seemed like she was showing up every day on AmiAmi and Mandarake. Then, as soon as I decided that I wanted to buy her, she was nowhere to be found for months.

I got an A/B one from AmiAmi for 3900 yen, and somewhere in that 4000-5000 yen price range seems to be her going price these days. If you'd prefer her color variant ITEM #3053 , you should expect to pay much more (probably upwards of 8000 yen). Personally, I prefer the navy blue swimsuit as I think it makes her stand out much more, but that's a matter of taste.

Stalking (4 years ago) #1940768I AM SORRY!! If I hadn't opened my big mouth you may not have realized ;v; She's still a cutie pie, I am just getting quite picky with my girls;

Don't worry about it :)

Maakie (4 years ago) #1940690If I would find her for a good price locally, I would buy her for sure! It's unfortunately a too high price for her on AmiAmi to me (anything above 3000 yen gets hit by costums here and that could easily double the price I pay for her). So I continye to be on the lookout for a local second hand one. :)

I had the opposite problem. When she got re-released, I was going to buy her domestically, since Koto figures are usually cheaper to buy through US sources. Unfortunately, I guess Koto didn't release her through their US distribution network meaning I could only find her at inflated prices through the Amazon marketplace and other resellers by which time she had sold out new through most of the Japanese stores. Fortunately AmiAmi pre-owned eventually came through for me after some waiting.

victorviper (4 years ago) #1940446You do have a point. On my shelf, she sits next to my iDOLM@STER Angelic Island figures (ITEM #98895, ITEM #98668, ITEM #118116, ITEM #98896 ), and Nono's feet are someone larger (and flatter) than any of theirs. Just one of those things I never really paid attention to, I suppose...

Hehe, I bought this figure almost about a year ago! ^w^

I have to agree she is very cute, and I prefer the blue swimuit also. :)

Stalking (4 years ago) #1940260I used to own this, and really liked her for a while, but I was TOO bothered by her plain feet.. Literally plain I mean, like... Squashed, compressed feet. They are so big and plain! They distracted me too much, so I just decided to let her go.

If it weren't from that, I'd probably have kept her ´v`

Nice complete review, though! She is a really cute figure all in all <3

SailorSarah (4 years ago) #1940241Nice review. She is very cute. ITEM #47826 has a strand of hair in the front that just looks glued on like the ahoge on this figure. You can see it in PICTURE #421248 . She was also made by Kotobukiya, so maybe they sometimes have an issue with that.

Poor Fate, it looks like they just slapped on a strand of hair at the last minute. It's too bad that particular feature was kind of messy on this figure, as otherwise she's pretty well-made.
