A little background info before I proceed with the review. Collecting anime figures is a new thing to me and I really didn't think much of it as a hobby before. It wasn't until I spent my vacation in Japan that I became fascinated with anime merchandise as a whole. Also, apologies if the pictures aren't amazing. I'm still trying to get a hang of this.
So here we are with two point five's first review, featuring Good Smile Company's Colossus Titan & Attack Playset which also happens to be my very first Nendoroid!
Unlike normal Nendoroids, the Colossal Titan Nendoroid comes in a rather massive box that comfortably houses all the parts you need to re-enact the Colossal Titan breaching the walls. The circular cutout with the Colossal Titan peeking behind the box is a creative way to tie it all together thematically.
The Colossal Titan in his naked glory! Being naked, there's not much to say about it really. The paint job is very well done for such a small figure, especially when you consider the fact that the Colossal Titan is walking around with exposed muscles. There really aren't any noticeable flaws to speak of concerning this area.
Taking apart his head was a relatively easy task! You can then replace his chibified head with an alternate expression that is closer to how he looks in the anime.
I'm surprised at how heavy his head is but thanks to the stand and support, it wasn't difficult to set him up and make him do poses. That said, I don't think you'll be spending too much time making the Colossal Titan pose, since he's rather inflexible around the arms. His upper and lower arms are two flat pieces joined by inserting a peg within a tiny hole, this is enough for him to do very simple movements like lifting both arms forward and backwards as well as bending elbows. But that's all.
Good Smile Company did provide extra joints for more articulation though, with these you can spread his arms sideways and still bend the elbows like so:
I really wouldn’t recommend it though. These joints don’t provide him with a lot of variation and they have a tendency to fall apart from time to time. The Colossal Titan comes with an extra pair of hands, slightly curved to look as if it were gripping the wall’s edge. You’re also provided with a puffy cloud which I assume represents the mysterious steam that accompanies him.
His 'chibified' head allows you have his mouth open which is a neat little extra even though we've never seen the Colossal Titan eat any humans in the show.
No worries though, whatever this set lacks in its main star, it makes up for with its number of extras that will let you set up your own Titan invasion! This playset comes with three hungry titans you may recognize from the TV series.
We have the fabulous titan, the mom eater and moe-tan in our crew. Each one comes with their own stand, and like the Colossal Titan, you can have the mom eater with his mouth wide open, ready to feast on the foolish soldiers who dare interrupt his meal. His left arm can also be moved up and down and his hand is curved to perfectly fit in Eren's mom. Fabulous titan doesn't do much, but he doesn't have to because he's already fabulous! Meanwhile, the moe titan is ready to grab the nearest human for her next meal.
But of course, what would Attack on Titan be without its very imposing looking walls to break? The walls are made up of three panels, with the middle one being interchangeable so you can either keep your humans locked up like cattle or ravaged by these titans.
We’re also given numerous houses to place your flying soldiers on and lots of tiny people for your beloved titans to munch on. Good Smile Company was truly generous with these extras but you may want to be extra careful not to drop them, they’re so tiny it’s ridiculous! These tiny humans run a high risk of getting lost so I don’t take them out as much.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this set, the Colossal Titan himself is rather underwhelming but coupled with all the extras you get, it does feel like an item that's still worth purchasing for any Attack on Titan aficionado. Plus, the chibified version is makes the Colossal Titan incredibly cute and non-threatening!
He just needs a little love.
