Prisma Illya
1/8 PVC Figure (Phat Company)
See this post and more at Keripo's Corner

This weekend I dropped by OhnoRaptor' place and she spend an hour or so teaching me how to use Adobe Lightroom. I was previously using Adobe Photoshop CC for all my photos but could never get any of them to look as nice as the gorgeous Dollfie pics I see on Flickr. Thankfully, OhnoRaptors to the rescue, and after being walked through most of the basic Lightroom settings and a few sample touchup edits, I was ready to try it out in my next figure review. So here's the results, hope they look nicer now!

Prisma Illya was chosen as the photo target this time cause she's pink and OhnoRaptors likes pink

This is just one of my many TYPE-MOON figure reviews. Past reviews can be found here while a list of upcoming reviews can be found here.

Lightroom Practice

Since the purpose of this photoset was to practice using Adobe Lightroom, I took a bunch of random pictures around my apartment with different backdrops and (usually crappy) lighting. I think they turned out alright and don't think I would have gotten the same results with Photoshop, but I'll let you guys be the judge.

And of course, because this is a Keripo review, here's the obligatory omakes.

The pics look good, but I think they'll look better with a more contrasting background. Because some of the figure is already lightly colored, she doesn't stand out very well against white.

Great review! The pics look great as well! I love how you include links to search for her on reputable sites, that would be useful for all reviews! Keep them coming.

Wayfinder (4 years ago) #2090625Looks like the range of your original shot was a little under-lit or underexposed, but there's good differentiation between areas so no colour information has been washed out.
Currently investigating getting some more overhead lighting in my room but that's more or less the best I can do right now. I'll experiment with my camera next time to see what I can muster.

WayfinderJPEGs can be a little nasty to develop from, as much exposure and curve information has to be inferred by the software and the results can be pretty skewed - not good for an example. If you could upload the RAW of that shot somewhere for me to grab, I'll be happy to take a quick poke at it.
I've been taking photos in JPEG all this time, but I've heard that I should do RAWs. Switching to Lightroom has me more convinced now, will start saving in RAW hereonafter.

WayfinderAfter you work with developing shots a little more, you'll likely come to appreciate Lightroom's darker UI. In fact, you might find it helpful to use the Lights Out feature (L key by default) to dim or black out the UI entirely at times. (Actually, check your monitor's brightness. IIRC, Lightroom's default UI scheme is a brushed mid/dark grey combination, not black.) It can be a little tricky to gauge relative brightness when a bright UI is playing tricks on your pupils.
That L keyboard shortcut quite useful, thanks! Still learning all the keyboard shortcuts (quite different from Photoshop), will have to look through a few more tutorials online later.

Keripo (4 years ago) #2090614This is very possibly the case, guess I'll need to check these pics again with a different monitor >_< Also really doesn't help that Lightroom's UI is all black so judging brightness is a bit hard...
For reference, here's an original photo I was working with: i.imgur.com/a4V...
If you have time, could you do a quick edit so I could compare and see what I should aim for?

Wayfinder (4 years ago) #2090606Since you're practicing with Lightroom, you might like to know that you've drastically overexposed many of the images above. I assume you're processing from RAW as well as watching the levels while you develop and so forth. If they look OK to you while you're doing it and you're overshooting, the colour space of your monitor might need to be recalibrated.
Good luck!
