Fanime(con) LootFanime(con) Loot

Hello everyone! This is my first time posting on MFC so please excuse any horrible grammar mistakes if you see them. I swear I did not write it badly on purpose.

Today I will be talking about my spoils I got from Fanimecon aka Fanime. This blog post is long overdue, but better late than never, right? The event is held yearly during the Memorial Day weekend which falls on May 23-26 this year at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, CA. It's claimed to be the largest anime convention in Northern California.

Now, onward to the loot~! Let's reveal what I got from the dealer's hall first shall we? First up are two porcelain mugs by Muse Taiwan. It is under Japanese approval and has the seal of approval on the box to reassure buyers. The KHR mug on the left holds 300cc while the Madoka Magica one holds 750 cc. I can totally eat ramen out of the Madoka Magica cup if I really wanted to. +-+

Next up are the nendoroids I bought at the convention. Last year at Fanime, I was brought into the world of figure collecting, so I was excited to see what they had in store for me this year. Unfortunately, most of the figures I really wanted were either on my preorder list or weren't sold here. I did end up caving in when I saw the Hachikuji nendoroid ITEM #166913 in person. She was too cute to resist! I also really wanted the nendoroid petites from the evil series: ITEM #144341 ITEM #144340, but I didn't want to go through the trouble of blind boxes, so I bought the nendoroid petites opened (but sealed) at a higher price.

In other news on "This is why I'm broke", I am into gunpla too. Originally, I disapproved gundams because I don't like mecha. My friends told me to give Gundam 00 a try since they knew I am a hardcore fan of the seiyuu Kamiya Hiroshi. I grew to like it, but what really dragged me into gunpla was my boyfriend. I have no idea what sorcery he used, but I ended up buying a gundam and actually enjoyed building it. Now, I would buy a gunpla every now and build it to kill time. The following gunpla we have here are Cheridum ITEM #8840 and Arios NG ITEM #8839.

Figures & gunpla. Man, what can I possibly add on to that in order to make myself more broke than I already am? ._. My inner fujoshi saw some yaoi at a few stalls and couldn't control myself. In the first row, we have a regular Natsume Yuujinchou note. I love the series to bits, so it was a must have for me. In the middle, we have an Ao no Exorcist yaoi doujinshi...because glasses. On the right, we have a shounen ai doujinshi of Gundam 00. On the bottom, we have a Nyanko-sensei charm from a blind box, 2 Mami cake straps ITEM #183220 also from blind boxes, and a (Homura) soul gem that lights up if you twist the bottom.

I am planning on selling/exchanging one of my Mami cake straps w/ the box (stupid doubles). Please pm me if you are interested.

I got a mystery grab bag from one of the stalls. I ended up giving most of the items away before I took a picture of it. I truthfully don't really know too much about the robot figure on the left. According to MFC, it's called Change!! Getter Robo: Sekai Saigo no Hi - Getter 1 Renewal Ver. 105new ITEM #68386 . On the right, we have a Walking Dead plushie of a walker.

I am selling/exchanging both of these items. The robot's box is slightly damaged but nothing too severe. Please pm me if you are interested in either one of these products.

Now let's take a look at what I got from the artist alley shall we? On the first row, we have fan art for the DS game The World Ends w/ You (aka TWEWY, which is my all-time favorite), Kino's Journey (which I never watched before, but the art was gorgeous), a mini card for black rock shooter and a mini cart w/ Miku in a cat outfit. The second row features a high school setting for Kingdom Hearts and a sticker set of chibi Vocaloid characters. The last row is a Kuroko no Basket bookmark (sparkly~) and a Kingdom Hearts fan art w/ a Halloween theme.

I bought a really cute sticker set that comes with all the witches in Madoka Magica. Buying it as a set was more than 50% cheaper! What a steal. It came in a brown envelope, sealed w/ a witch's kiss.

Can you name all the witches?

Last but not least, my pins and straps from the artist alley. I bought a Persona 4 pin where Teddie reveals his alternative appearance, the two wands from Card Captor Sakura, and nerdy Homura that spams "Homu". For any of you wondering what the catch phrase for the pin says, it's "Moe Glasses". In the first row of straps/keychains, we have Homura w/ a fancy purple cake, Yata + Fushimi from Project K, and a Natsume w/ Nyanko-sensei from Natsume Yuujinchou strap. In the second row, we have Gintoki on a sundae w/ a chibi Kagura from Gintama, Miku in a lavish kimono, and Neku from TWEWY. Only the Natsume & Neku strap are reversible.

I bought around 8 large posters, but I decided against taking pictures of it. I don't really remember which artist did what, so I can't credit them, especially since many artists don't like it when you post their large prints of their artwork. Some stalls even prevent you from taking any pictures to prevent art theft.

And this concludes my blog post~ I hope you all enjoyed reading this post as much as my pleasant experience at Fanime this year.

darkmewsic (4 years ago) #2183054I have a friend who's also hopeless addicted to them. He wanted a certain character, but got every single one except the one he wanted. He tried again with another series w/ half of them to his liking. He ended up even getting doubles on the ones he didn't want.

I'm not that bad luckily. I usually buy a few from a set, then if there are any that I need but didn't get I buy them already opened somewhere.

Stringed (4 years ago) #2182669My big purchases are usually doujins, physical copies of visual novels, etc. I'll buy figures occasionally but the prices are usually jacked up way too much. I am a bit of an addict when it comes to blind box trading figures/straps/etc though...

I hunt for doujin at cons primarily, especially the sort that would be a bit too risky to import (shota, loli.) Customs in the USA doesn't open and inspect a lot of packages, but there have been people arrested (for drawings! so stupid) over shota and loli stuff so I don't import it.

I've gotten some impressive finds on figures at cons a couple of times, though. I picked up Gift/Solid Theater's Saber Alter for $40 at Anime Expo in 2012.

Nice! I tend to spend most of my time in the Exhibit Hall but am trying to now appreciate the AA more. I really wish I could go to one of CA's big anime cons, they seem like the best!

Same as jena, I spend most of my money nowadays in the artist's alley. I used to buy a lot of stuff in the exhibit hall, but then realized a lot of it was overpriced and/or kind of a pain to haul around all day while in cosplay and attempting to take pictures of lots of other cosplayers. Most stuff I buy in AA is either paper goods that can be rolled and stored easily in a poster tube, or small buttons/keychains~

My favourite place to explore at conventions is the artist alley, I love supporting artists so I generally buy stuff there rather than from the dealers who have disturbingly inflated prices.
