Anime Expo - General Questions?Anime Expo - General Questions?

COLORCOLOR4 years agoAsk MFC
Hello again everyboy ! =3

So I'm thrilled because I'm gonna go for the first time to Anime expo! I can't wait !!!

It looks like so much fun and the pictures make the halls look so crowded haha ^^'

Then, because I'm a newbie, I have a few questions I would love you guys to helpme answer ;)

I've been looking up the opening hours for both the entertainment and exhibition halls, they seem to open around noon, however, the registrations open at 8am I believe, why?? Should I expect to wait 4 whole hours in line to get my badge?

Talking about badges, let me know if I understood correctly: I have to buy my ticket online, and with the confirmation and bar code things I have to pick up my badge at the convention center directly? If I do it that way, am I elligible to pick it up on Day 0? (they are talking about at-con tickets and other sorts of tickets that are not elligible for Day 0 pick up?)

Is it fun? I've seen there are supposed to be video games, concerts etc, is it worth it? Knowing I probably will have to go on my own, I'm afraid to get bored, or not motivated to wait in line (I'm not interested in authograph or concerts really, however I would love to see cosplay shows!)

Do you think all the nice figures will sell out quickly on the first day? in the morning? or do booths plan ahead to at least last the first day without running out of their hot items? (I'm aware it depends on how many collectors show up, prices, attendance, demand for a certain product etc...) I just don't want to have high hope and see my wishlist items selling out in an hour or two...

Then, are figures prices going to be interesting? or are they most of them going to be above market price?

Thank you for reading and if you have any info, or want to share your own experience, I'm eager to read :)))

trapar (4 years ago) #2223689Whether or not you do decide to stay the whole day does depend on your interest on any of the panels/showings or events that are going to be put on. The schedule for the event has already been put up so you can decide on that. www.anime-expo....
And btw for the GSC booth, last year, the exclusive figure sold out within the hour of opening the exhibit hall. This years exclusive is going to be the Levi cleaning version. GSC has also already listed some of the figures that theyre going to sell, on their facebook page.

Yes I'm not interested in Levi, but the others :) that are non exclusive, they are supposed to disclose their prices the day before, now I'm sure my husband can come with me so we'll go at the opening :)

EKing (4 years ago) #2223200You can bring food and water... In fact bring plenty of water so you don't have to pay 5 dollars for a bottle of water or soda... In terms of figure buying I try to avoid getting anything at conventions in general unless its from GSC. They tend to be way over market price and you can usually find them cheaper online. If you do see something nice always check online first before you pull the trigger. Thank goodness for cellphones with the intrawebs I've saved myself from getting ripped off.
That's awesome, I'll same money by bringing food =) honestly I spend ùy time on internet so I pretty much know the value of the most common figure (no I'm not embarasssed haha)

trapar (4 years ago) #2223512As far as higher than marketprices go, I'd only find it acceptable to buy if the "extra" amount to pay is around 20$ since thats around the charge for EMS, which is my common option when ordering online. So I usually just bring up my phone and if I see that the figure I want is currently being sold at 70$ and the AX vendor is selling it for 90$, I'd be okay with it. To me, I basically just paid for s&h.
Anyone else do the same?

This reasoning is perfectly acceptable, I wasn't planning on buying, except from official retailers such as GSc. The worst are Nendoroids, very difficult to differentiate bootlegs from within the box. First I always look for the sticker, and pay attention to what the sticker says :)

Then I guess I'll see once there :)

admiral_Kikan (4 years ago) #2223149Make sure to bring some form of ID with you when you go to pick up your badge. State ID, drivers license, College ID etc.
Thank you :)

Are we allowed to bring food/water?

Thank you everyone, this is what I thought, my main interest is the exhibit hall obviously, and I know I can get in for two hours from 4 to 6pm but I was wondering if it was worth going for the whole day, and at least I won't have to wait in line, but going in at 4pm to see that everything is sold out is not the best situation haha and I promised my husband no more figure for a while xD

What I'm most afraid of is to pay the whole day and just get bored, I won't have to deal with parking or traffic because I will walk there (15min walking distance from my apt!!!), I guess if my husband come with me I'll go the whole day, if not, I might just show up a little bit later in the day so that I won't have to wait in line to go in... ^^"

Ive been going to AX since 2006. I went to day zero (for the first time) last year at the end of the day and they didn't let me in line. So annoying after paying parking and battling traffic. I was able to sneak in line though. I plan to pick up my badge at 8am day one.

Most figure prices are way too high. I like buying cute trading figures and media at AX. If you see a figure/nendo/figma price that is too good to be true, it probably is--be careful of bootlegs.

Be prepared for lines for everything! Video rooms, panels, exhibit hall...they all have cray lines.

It'll be my first year as well. I wont be spending too much as I also will be going to SDCC. Thanks for asking the questions.
