Hello Kitty to Issho - Rio (Eikoh)Hello Kitty to Issho - Rio (Eikoh)

MaakieMaakie4 years agoReview
Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Rio ENCYCLOPEDIA #24684 from Hello Kitty to Issho! ENCYCLOPEDIA #1481 ! This figure ITEM #54033 is made by Eikoh ENCYCLOPEDIA #7815 .

Before I start with this review I would like to let you guys know that I also reviewed another figure from this series, made by the same manufacturer: BLOG #3568 My photographing and reviewing style was not very good back then, but it can maybe still help some people!

Background

Hello Kitty to Issho is a multimedia-project were Sanrio (Hello Kitty's creator) works together with multiple well known Japanese artists to create characters called "Kittlyers". They are human characters decorated with all sorts of things Hello Kitty! From this project the Hello Kitty to Issho! games for the PSP and PSVita seem popular. One of the best known characters I have noticed is the Kittlyer Nekomura Iroha who has provided a Vocaloid voice.

It was very hard for me to find more information about Rio, except for that she is designed and illustrated by KEI, who is responsible for Hatsune Miku's original artwork.

The reason why and how I got her

I always wanted to collect more from Hello Kitty to Issho!, because I'm a huge Hello Kitty fan and like cute figures in general. When the project was annouced I tried to keep clear from buying merchandise from it, because a lot was released in a very short time. I did say to myself that when I found a very good deal I would buy it. That happened with ITEM #54257 when I saw her very cheap on Mandarake about 2 years ago and recently with this figure, because MAWIK had an unwanted double of her which I could buy for a very cheap price!

Original art

Above artwork was used when creating this figure. Especially the posing is spot-on! When it comes to details, most of them are kept, but are a bit more simplified.

The Box

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-sDfxn4VCTKE/U9-0OzZuHcI/AAAAAAAAA8g/KeZ4aKebWUc/s720/IMG_1464.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lHkUsCRaQCk/U9-0Owh940I/AAAAAAAAA8c/9Q1jRfb_56M/s720/IMG_1465.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-DdrkyE6JuWY/U9-0O-c76aI/AAAAAAAAA8k/o0nY3by3wjY/s720/IMG_1466.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eeIJ_fXEvGQ/U9-0RLw_TGI/AAAAAAAAA8s/91RekvlBpHY/s720/IMG_1467.JPG

The front of the box has one big window, where you can see Rio very well. On the right side is the original artwork this figure was created after. I think the most special here is the artwork on the back and left side of the box. It's very detailed and I love the usage of colors in it!

First Look

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QqycDynyoDA/U9-0S3TFyTI/AAAAAAAAA84/-WsDcc9gbUY/s720/IMG_1469.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-LeBad3hcYlM/U9-0TuS32EI/AAAAAAAAA9E/aIFEOMHc19k/s720/IMG_1470.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wSF1RaWwYcE/U9-0VZ0ycMI/AAAAAAAAA9U/e-Uv3QDG8oQ/s720/IMG_1472.JPG

Rio's blister is quite simple, but gives enough protection. A bit of a downside for me is that there is no specific place for the guitar pick. Especially because this is such a small part it would have been nice if it got a better place...I'm already afraid I will lose it! I have quite a lot of figures with small parts or easily breakable parts where the manufacturer puts two of them in the box. Well, that's not the case with this figure, so if you plan on getting her you have to be super careful to not lose the guitar pick, as it is one of the focus points when it comes to her posing!

The Figure

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-oc5aCBSsl3k/U9-0SqnyzOI/AAAAAAAAA9A/1iNFfzy78vs/s720/IMG_1468.JPG

Rio comes with a small instruction sheet explaining how to put the guitar and headphones on and how she should hold the guitar pick in her hand. Especially the instruction of how to let her hold the guitar is useful, because it's quite rare for prize figures to have removeable parts!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ilAAKGT2Uz4/U9-0WlFLZeI/AAAAAAAAA9g/gMVQtqvHZUA/s720/IMG_1473.JPG

The figure consists of the following parts: main figure, guitar, headphones, guitar pick and base.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-iSyqR35jp3A/U9-0XY2YC8I/AAAAAAAAA9o/wn6H-hLLDog/s720/IMG_1474.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-nie-JyZ0rwk/U9-0XyLLqWI/AAAAAAAAA9w/luSE0mh_e3o/s720/IMG_1476.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-RU2x8fwhHoo/U9-0ZF4xyhI/AAAAAAAAA94/8f4PR7RKPLw/s720/IMG_1477.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Lgq0LMLkd-4/U9-0ZhfTc9I/AAAAAAAAA-A/v8uqUt4P8mk/s720/IMG_1478.JPG

I was already expecting her to not be a very high quality, so I was surprised when I saw her dress! It had a lot more details than I expected. Also the hair color, which I thought was quite horrible (looking at other users pictures), turned out looking less bad than expected. Overall her first impression to me was quite okay!

Looking at all the details!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-QjfDugFlUxQ/U9-0e_FfMuI/AAAAAAAAA-w/oMiGH--CJuQ/s720/IMG_1485.JPG

Starting with Rio herself! She has a very cute expression while she sticks out her tongue! The tongue is sculpted and painted quite nicely. She has decals for her eyes and eyebrows, which look a bit flat to me. The eyes lack detail and the color of her eyebrows doesn't come close to her hair color. Quite a shame, because the lower half of her face is detailed so well!

Her hair has been sculpted very well. There are no big flaws to be seen and the seamlines are kept to a minumum. I remember when this figure was released, that there was quite some discussion about her hair color, because it was an unexpected choice of the manufacturer. Rio has in her artwork very light blonde hair and my guess is that they tried to recreate that by giving her hair a metallic shine. Personally I'm not really sure what to think about it, I guess it's a matter of personal taste if you like this or not.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-nYJOpOswNvU/U9-1lAy0njI/AAAAAAAABCA/ARBUBLdx5_o/s720/IMG_1486.JPG

One of the details in her hair is a small braid with a characteristic Hello Kitty bow at the front. The bow isn't painted perfectly, but the sculpting is good!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6XToHtUNZlk/U9-0gF1rPaI/AAAAAAAAA_A/tLLetDO052k/s720/IMG_1489.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qTZa0rA7WXE/U9-0fvblySI/AAAAAAAAA-4/ZP5cZljyzdM/s720/IMG_1488.JPG

The backside of Rio's hair has a lot of details, especially at the bottom! Very nice for a prize figure!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ntPo_U2-LaU/U9-0g6pFQqI/AAAAAAAAA_I/XOruRGm2BK0/s720/IMG_1491.JPG

One pretty bad seamline is this one at the front. I'm very confused at why they put that extra weft of hair there. It's probably for accuracy to the original artwork, but I think this seamline looks horrible, so I think it would have looked better without.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-QKLEJBNXbps/U9-0k0iu0fI/AAAAAAAAA_o/-xNSZRiCxos/s912/IMG_1496.JPG

Around her neck, Rio wears a collar with a bow. Some red paint is on her neck, but this is a mistake specific to my copy of this figure.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-91cJ1B24s_A/U9-0hcFnfOI/AAAAAAAAA_M/7x7ymrpY11k/s912/IMG_1493.JPG

Rio wears a Hello Kitty dress with her top (bra?) peeking out. There has been some sculpting for the lines, but as you can see, most of the stripes are not placed on these lines. For such an intricate detail on a prize figure, it's acceptable though.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Rv4Ghxiw24U/U9-0iiT8cSI/AAAAAAAAA_U/IOUbNRzox5I/s800/IMG_1494.JPG

The dress is very nicely painted and sculpted. The middle button representing Hello Kitty's nose and the whiskers next to it are very nice!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-SNUlYuoyrS0/U9-0jsjwqKI/AAAAAAAAA_c/lX-PJ9uKmR4/s912/IMG_1495.JPG

The back of the dress also has a "tail" with a Hello Kitty Ribbon. The painting isn't very even on the bow, but the sculpting looks good here.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-V1ANycmELUc/U9-0lhTPhBI/AAAAAAAAA_w/iXFZ47_GknA/s720/IMG_1497.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ydNprqtnlz8/U9-0p1i6AVI/AAAAAAAABAM/NaqbE3_z4_k/s912/IMG_1501.JPG

The stripes on Rio's stockings have the same as her top: You can see the lines sculpted, but the paint isn't at all the right parts.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-DC1OhSJPz9M/U9-0mD6ecGI/AAAAAAAAA_0/oNGRnFMxZ1M/s720/IMG_1498.JPG

The bow here is a nice touch and is painted very well!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-D4x5ktb0x0Q/U9-0nZ-SMnI/AAAAAAAAA_8/w-1G0GncgEM/s800/IMG_1499.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/--Q0TSt8azAM/U9-0osoHxEI/AAAAAAAABAE/4lTz8d14c78/s912/IMG_1500.JPG

Her shoes are quite detailed and painted pretty good. There are some small mistakes, but this part of the figure is quite small, so I think it's very acceptable!

Additional parts

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LPCF4hGFPIU/U9-0aOCTYoI/AAAAAAAAA-E/kyDduJyxzfs/s720/IMG_1479.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-4uoopm0K2cQ/U9-0a4BlriI/AAAAAAAAA-U/NY2YITxZ_g0/s1440/IMG_1481.JPG

Let's start with Rio's headphones! They are nicely detailed and painted. The only flaws are some very small seamlines.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-WMST_9oWhHE/U9-0ryybFWI/AAAAAAAABAc/H3MbC-EKdC8/s912/IMG_1505.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-fm_eNA7ZCKU/U9-0qg1D_SI/AAAAAAAABAU/VDwV1qr9v3Q/s720/IMG_1504.JPG

As seen in her original artwork, the headphones are placed around her neck. Just looking at her like this, she reminds me of a DJ that gives a quick, cheeky smile to the camera.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_Aq66lBPsiY/U9-0sV2_oHI/AAAAAAAABAo/G7KuEQKmwzE/s720/IMG_1506.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ho7xfNIR-4E/U9-0sx8NcTI/AAAAAAAABAs/Anu9iqjVEiw/s720/IMG_1507.JPG

It is also possible to place the headphones on top of her head, but they are actually a bit to small for her full head, making it look crooked. It is possible to display her like this, but I would recommend to keep them around her neck (this posing can maybe also result in cracks in the headphones if you keep it too long like this).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7gyqAHs7K0E/U9-0bDkfZaI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/l84Jt9PtYsk/s720/IMG_1482.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ew8HjAKO6Bs/U9-0cSnLFII/AAAAAAAAA-c/XKrCypJ5EKU/s912/IMG_1483.JPG

Her Hello Kitty guitar had some unexpected details, especially at the back! The painting and sculpting is very nicely done looking at the size and prize of this figure!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Oe0nMenrLKE/U9-0dpimuwI/AAAAAAAAA-k/DD8XkY-Pn2A/s1024/IMG_1484.JPG

Then we have her guitar pick. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be shaped like Hello Kitty, but it looks quite blotchy.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VSIsVke3Mb8/U9-0tjLtHNI/AAAAAAAABA4/ZxTk3KUdPcY/s720/IMG_1509.JPG

Rio's right hand is specifically sculpted to hold the pick. The "glued together" fingers look quite weird if you decide to not put it there. View spoilerHide spoilerNot completely related to the review, but I think that it would also look nice have her displayed with a miniature vinyl record and without guitar. It's a simple possibility to make her look more like a DJ, as mentioned above. For some reason I think of Rio as a DJ when looking at her without the guitar pick and guitar itself...

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_qBM7h2M5ow/U9-0uNlmAvI/AAAAAAAABA8/52xNhFiKeUE/s720/IMG_1510.JPG

Placing the guitar pick is very easy and after it's being placed, it's actually quite hard to remove it! Which is a good sign and hopefully makes sure people don't lose this part!

And here we have her in her full glory!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kRhRBTunWQc/U9-0vYGt0yI/AAAAAAAABBI/gnWAikojVYE/s720/IMG_1511.JPG

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-xsBm6QlcnN0/U9-0v1PWUFI/AAAAAAAABBM/OepMgYW6vkQ/s720/IMG_1512.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-O3WQuqEEIOk/U9-0xHab4hI/AAAAAAAABBY/oDFbaGucvnc/s720/IMG_1513.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-END_pnYXAjk/U9-0xu8gjXI/AAAAAAAABBc/lgs2jbKWXGI/s720/IMG_1514.JPG

She may not be the most detailed figure and is defenitely not flawless, but I have gotten quite a liking to her! She gives off quite a powerfull look, especially while holding the guitar! And I think that especially with character design, she is very nicely done. Rio is cute with all her Hello Kitty items, but still manages to look tough!

Summary or tl;dr

Positive
- Very nice artwork on the box!
- The details and painting on her headphones and guitar look very good!
- Cutely sticking out tongue, love the posing!
- Parts with a higher sculpt detail than expected (guitar, hair, dress)
- She has a really nice and powerfull overall look!

Neutral
- Her hair color is a matter of personal taste if you like it or not.
- Some not very subtle seamlines are visible.
- Small painting errors on heavily detailed parts, as expected from a prize figure.
- Well, you've got to like Hello Kitty to like this figure, because the amount of Hello Kitty items on her is very high!

Negative
- Sculpting of the guitar pick is not very good. It doesn't look much like Hello Kitty.
- Her eyes lack detail.
- The color of Rio's eyebrows doesn't match her hair color.

The Scores

Sculpting 8/10
Quite some parts were better looking than expected, mainly her dress and her guitar impressed me! Most of the sculpting flaws are visible seamlines, so that's pretty minimal.

Painting 7/10
The painting could have been done a lot better, but it's certainly not the worst I have seen on a prize figure.

Posing 8/10
Simple, but very powerful. Especially the way she holds the guitar and the guitar pick are nice.

Base 5/10
It's oval-shaped, one solid color of black and is just big enough for the figure. It's a plus that it's not too big, but there is nothing special to mention.

Packaging 9/10
The packaging is very nice and has great artwork!

Enjoyment 8/10
I'm planning on collecting more from Hello Kitty to Issho in the future, so this good deal I got for Rio made me very happy!

Conclusion

If you are fan of Hello Kitty and/or a fan of KEI's character designs, this figure is defenitely worth looking for! Do keep in mind that she is far from perfect, so don't overpay!

Availability

This figure is not rare, but she's also not the easiest to find. When she comes up, she is (for a pre-owned one) mostly between 1000 and 2000 yen.

And to finish it!

Currently I have my figures in storage, but here is how I used to display her in my collection!

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-WwNCTXHZc9I/U9-01dcU1QI/AAAAAAAABB0/fR-yMIaovFg/s912/IMG_1519.JPG

I displayed her together with some of my other prize figures and next to my other Hello Kitty to Issho figure ITEM #54257 !

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next review will be about a figure I searched after for quite a while, 5shikisen ITEM #9874 !

VioFitz (4 years ago) #2317212Idk why... But, she somehow looks so seducing eventhough her expressions are meant to be cute. I like her hair style as well the sculpting would probably made the best one note for her. Again! Nice review!!

Hrmm, that's maybe also why I see her more as a DJ, because those overall go for a more sexy look than most of your female guitarists. She is indeed very good for a prize figure, so anyone that can find her for a normal prize-figure price won't be disappointed! :D

its very nice. i made a review about it BLOG #14891
ITEM #79060 is the same as the one above just
better quality and i love her face. also she got this bag that is missing from the figure above that made her look like it should be there but it isnt. so this one got the bag :D
shes my 2nd best.
and this is my number 1: ITEM #124874
i hope to find her one day. she will complete lily ITEM #124873
i dont like the pose.
but her face, hair and outfit (love the shoes so much!!) looking very nice and lets not forget shes a prize figure.
her hair look better if you compare her to the other 3 figures
would be perfect if it had the changing colors.

Hehe, seems like I'm one of the few that likes it, but I already have a "weird" taste because of liking mecha musume. :P

Yeah I remember that review! ^^ I hit interestng, but didn't leave a comment because I didn't have much to add except for what you already told! ^^

My own number one (that I don't own yet) is I think a tie between ITEM #70385 and ITEM #56238 I love POP's character designs, but they really screwed up on ITEM #54257 as a figure...especially the eyes. \

For me it feels like that Lilly doesn't have enough Hello Kitty items on her, or is it just me? I only see a hat?

Moro (4 years ago) #2308799I like mecha too, but on MECHAS, not awkwardly taped onto a loli. I've seen various fan designs floating around for Iroha that look much better than either of her official designs. It seems lots of people don't like them much but like the character's voice.

Haha, well I'm into mecha musume, so you probably don't like that also. :P

An official outfit from Iroha that I like is: img1.wikia.noco... It looks a lot less cluttered than some of her other outfits.

The fanart-outfit I like most is: static.zerochan... It was even the first result on Google when I looked for it, so it seems like I'm not the only one. :P

To me it came across as people mainly disliking the speakerhands outfit. Her voice still seems to be popular even now! ^^

Maakie (4 years ago) #2308787I'm into mecha and mecha parts, so that's probably why I'm okay with the helmet and hands. xD
I used to own a figure with that shorts outfit. :') But I agree on the clashing colors there and the frills on the boots (or randomly placed on the legs could also be possible) confused me also. I actually like the suitcase a lot in that design! ^^ Well okay, it has an awkward wheel. The more I look at it now the more weird stuff I see. xD Anyway, I'm personally more fan of her helmet/speaker outfit than this "fashionable" outfit.

Moro (4 years ago) #2308781Man where do I even start. The bodysuit is fine but the giant stupid hat and speaker hands are just... terrible.
And her other design img4.wikia.noco... is even worse. Denim bootyshorts under the world's most awkward balloony dress with garters connected to three floating layers of frills above boots and one REALLY long piece of hair with a giant bow... it's a visual disaster. The only thing that's acceptable about that design is the umbrella.

She's about what I expected from a prize figure. With some things a bit better and other things a bit worse. ;)
