iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls - Futaba Anzu - Figma #EX-012 (Max F

MaakieMaakie3 years agoReview
! There is a wall of text in the beginning! If you want to see the figure + pictures and not the background information, you can scroll down a bit. ;) !

The pictures I used in this review are quite old and maybe not the quality you are used from me!

Welcome to my review! Today I will be talking about a figure of Futaba Anzu ENCYCLOPEDIA #38984 from the iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls game ENCYCLOPEDIA #38982 ! This figure ITEM #140904 is from the line Figma ENCYCLOPEDIA #23356 and made by Max Factory ENCYCLOPEDIA #7622 .

I will start off with telling some more about her background.

Background

The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls is a part of the IDOLM@STER franchise. Gameplay-wise it's quite different from the usual IDOLM@STER games; Cinderella Girls is a mobile game and focusses mainly on the social aspects. It's your job to find trading cards that represent idol girls, and then train these cards to become the best idols there are! Recently an anime for the iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls was announced and it should start airing early 2015.

Futaba Anzu is a 17-year old, lazy girl. She calls herself a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and says she has no hobbies (although she spends most of her days playing games, watching anime and reading manga). The only reason why she chose to become an idol, is because she thinks that if she works hard for a while and earns a ton of money, she can relax and live off that money for the rest of her life. Anzu is introduced in the game in a lazy outfit consisting of an oversized t-shirt and some short, this is the same outfit we see on this figure and also seems to be the favorite of fans!

The reason why and how I got her

I saw Futuba Anzu for the first time while randomly browsing on my favorite websites. I immideatly fell in love with her character design. A grumpy and sleepy idol that walks around with her plushie most of the time? Count me in! I decided I wanted to look into the iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls game afterwards, but quickly found out that gameplay-wise it wasn't anything for me. I'm not really into social games, because I don't like the waiting on training/getting harvested/regerenerating and likewise things that happen in those games. When I play a game I want to play a few hours in a row or don't play at all! Luckily for me the anime will come out soon, I'm looking forward to it! Even if Anzu will only have a small part, I will still watch the series just to find out more about her!

How I got Anzu was an...interesting story. For her being an exclusive figure meant that I had to order her at the GSC shop. Here in the Netherlands we get a lot of costums, so I joined a group order to split those costs. Then it turned out the yen got very strong and GSC decided to ship out items seperately! Meaning multiple packages getting hit seperately by costums instead of just paying once for costums. This made the order for everyone in the group very expensive and for some (including me) even more expensive than having it ordered yourself by the GSC shop. Even more frustrating was that pretty soon after, she turned out to be pretty cheap on Mandarake. So just after owning her I felt a bit of regret for the high price I paid for her...so I was hoping she would be worth it!

Original art

Because Anzu is a figma, multiple of her expressions and poses can be recreated with this figure. When it comes to her clothing, there is a specific piece of artwork she was made after.

They recreated her outfit very well!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9fm43xppeg4/U_X_KsMwmbI/AAAAAAAABQQ/qP51-387bgU/s720/IMG_1698.JPG

Anzu comes in the typical figma box. The front shows the figure and all the parts she comes with. Both sides and the back show poses you can create.

Every part has his own place in the box. The amount of blisters around it is just enough to protect everything very well. Seperately a small bag of sweat- and teardrops is included, this is placed behind the blisters in the box.

The Figure

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3e_vhSgc9CA/U_X_PSZrGNI/AAAAAAAABRA/0TrCd6l-YhM/s720/IMG_1703.JPG

Anzu's figma consists of the following parts:

- An instruction sheet on how to have her hold the PSP and how to put on her tears and sweatdrops.
- A figma parts bag.
- Sheet with tears and sweatdrops.
- Main figure (consisting of body, 1 expression and 2 hands).
- 2 alternate expressions.
- Miniature PSP.
- 2 pieces of candy.
- Her bunny plushie.
- 8 extra hands (4 right and 4 left).
- Base platform.
- Base rod.
- Peg for her back that goes into the rod.

Before I start the actual reviewing I have to say that I was too scared to use the tears and sweatdrops this figure came with. This mainly because I'm afraid of leftover sticky residue if I decide to get one off.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pNqxIaUH9co/U_X_Qf5CQsI/AAAAAAAABRQ/bkFJ6y06TEs/s720/IMG_1705.JPG

First up is her assembled base! This is your typical figma base.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f0eVwcSGP3s/U_X_QpPV4EI/AAAAAAAABRI/_tgrI3A-Frk/s720/IMG_1707.JPG

Figma bases are known for showing air bubbles in the rod sometimes, but the amount of bubbles this one has is very high. I don't really like how it looks. It was not a complete surprise for me though, because my ITEM #27615 also has a rod with a lot of bubbles (which you can see here PICTURE #1015289 ).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CoLUOQPSoAM/U_X_SXYoqWI/AAAAAAAABRY/odH_PzZDSCY/s912/IMG_1708.JPG

The most interesting and attention-grabbing part on this Figma is for me the t-shirt. It's made out of a very flexible material. The right arm which is in the t-shirt, can be moved up until shoulder height. To make sure they could recreate Anzu's stretching pose, they made the joint for the left arm on the t-shirt instead of underneath. View spoilerHide spoilerFun fact: The text on her t-shirt says "You Lose If You Work". A good life-motto for a NEET, I would say.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5o9a2ZbXEGo/U_X_TbC46EI/AAAAAAAABRc/3ZIFvDTJLLs/s912/IMG_1709.JPG

Because of the flexibility of the t-shirt, it can happen that you pose Anzu in a way that the peg can't fit into her back anymore. That's why I recommend posing her after putting the peg in (unless you use an alternative for the figma standard).

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jeSqEzlV8-E/U_X_Y1yk_FI/AAAAAAAABSE/YBo6Wow9qaE/s720/IMG_1714.JPG

The back of Anzu's t-shirt is nicely detailed and shows multiple wrinkles. From a distance it looks quite realistic.

Now, let's try some posing!

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Oy0IxL2vPBg/U_X_UZ3HY-I/AAAAAAAABRk/4cpFwbzbZXk/s912/IMG_1710.JPG

First up is Anzu sleeping! Looks like she fell asleep while playing a game on her PSP!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-e4re2iuXV_U/U_X_VxazL7I/AAAAAAAABRs/HF8vt81OfFw/s720/IMG_1711.JPG

The PSP is simple, but nicely detailed for it's size. The paint is very good too.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_eoY7ypVCQY/U_X_Xa395ZI/AAAAAAAABR4/2OKpUqjFbcY/s800/IMG_1712.JPG

The candies are very basic and small, but look fine! They are so small though, I hope I won't lose them!

Anzu is almost unseparable from her bunny plushie. She always takes it around with her and it is known for looking rough and having ripped seams and dirt on it. With this PVC version of her plush, the texture looks indeed rough, so it looks a bit old. There is also a bit of filling bursting out of one of the seams. When it comes to paint it's the same pink overall, so it doesn't look dirty.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kyBnlG6ftfw/U_X_YKN8ecI/AAAAAAAABSM/FFo1161u8cg/s912/IMG_1713.JPG

This faceplate of Anzu is very cute. She doesn't look very happy to be sleeping though, I guess she is having a bad dream. The decals and painting is very simple here, but look nice.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HaQzVlpsgaQ/U_X_ZvzvyxI/AAAAAAAABSU/63uOP-_dv_w/s720/IMG_1718.JPG

And now for a more active pose! In a pose like this, it becomes the most clear to me that she is an action figure. Especially the knees and ankles stand out a lot to me. This is not in a negative way, because her posability is very good, but it is something to keep in mind in general if you are planning to get Figma's with a lot of bare skin at their arms and legs.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-q-Q3GKiBzKk/U_X_a0MJg0I/AAAAAAAABSc/c50qHiuD08A/s912/IMG_1719.JPG

The sculpting and detailing on her face and hands is very good, but from this close you can see a pretty big flaw: the leftovers at her front- and sidebangs haven't been removed everywhere. I actually never thought of asking for a replacement part until I wrote this sentence for my review, so I actually just send out an e-mail to GSC (I have no idea if it's a big enough "problem" to ask, but it never hurts to try?).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--IttwzwQdiA/U_X_drz7SlI/AAAAAAAABS4/PJr0bUnwumo/s720/IMG_1722.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-H3BS_fGoCQU/U_X_dGl8LxI/AAAAAAAABS8/V6c3EIXUQYQ/s800/IMG_1721.JPG

Interesting about Anzu's bunny plushie is that the back of it is completely flat. It was made flat so that the sleeping-pose where Anzu uses it as a pillow could work, but it looks a bit weird when the plushie is used for other poses. That's why I try to display her in a way so you can't take a look at the back of the plush. This all makes me think that it maybe would have looked better if this figure came with a real filled plushie? But I guess that would have been too expensive and then the plushie would look to "new", because they can't really rip seams open and then distribute them like that.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-hYyEKumOtIQ/U_X_eY36aOI/AAAAAAAABTE/TFwl3pKSDzM/s720/IMG_1723.JPG

And now for her main pose (from the prototypes and box)!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-FBbDj_Yg7W4/U_X_eyteSQI/AAAAAAAABTY/lXpPlGnfPR4/s720/IMG_1724.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wL4IJVx991I/U_X_foWfoVI/AAAAAAAABTI/hoO_pdD_LtY/s720/IMG_1725.JPG

*yawns* "Hmmnn...where did you wake me up for?"

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-g3QRevlmcco/U_X_gs1iEeI/AAAAAAAABTg/w-k_UHOSbKw/s720/IMG_1726.JPG

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-rbpzsO-BKq0/U_X_gsKwAII/AAAAAAAABTo/F8GpRANltIY/s720/IMG_1727.JPG

This is my personal favorite posing and the way I had her displayed. This way to me she looks like she spend the whole night playing games and is on her way to go to bed! I'm currently thinking of trying to get her in a sitting pose, leaning against the base, yawning, while playing games.

Summary or tl;dr

Positive
- SHE IS SO CUTE! HNNNG!
- The material the shirt is made of is very interesting and works well.
- Small and nicely sculpted/painted accesories.
- Overall nice detailing on the faces and hands.

Neutral
- Standard Figma-box, not much special.
- The way the t-shirts moves can sometimes be in the way of the peg in her back which obstructs her movement a bit.
- Her plushie has a flat back, but this is needed for one of her poses.

Negative
- A lot of air bubbles in the rod of the base. (Specific to my copy of the figure, but could also be with other people having this figure or a Figma in general.)
- My copy of this figure has quite some leftovers at her front- and sidebangs.

The Scores

Sculpting 7/10
Not perfect, but pretty good.

Painting 8/10
It would have been nice if she had some more shading and details, but with how she is painted now it already looks very good!

Accesories 8/10
Some more accesories would have been nice, but the amount she comes with gives you enough to play with and give her multiple poses. The painting and sculpt on the accesories is good too.

Posability 8/10
The posability of this figure is very high, I can say it's the easiest poseable Figma I own. The only downside is that her t-shirts sometimes obstructs a bit of the posing.

Base 6/10
As a typical figma base it gives enough support to the figure. Unfortunately nothing special was done with it and it just shows the word "Figma". Also my specific copy has a lot of airbubbles in the rod of her base, which doesn't really look nice.

Packaging 7/10
Standard figma packaging. Protects the figure well and is pretty compact. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything special.

Enjoyment 8/10
Overall I'm pretty happy with owning this figure. Although I overpayed for her, she is the cutest thing! I do hope that once the anime starts that she will get a scaled figure, though!

Conclusion

If you are a fan of Futuba Anzu, this figure is currently your only choice to own a "bigger" figure from her. If you like cute (and sleepy) girls in general and like Figma's/action figures, she is defenitely worth looking for! I can also imagine some Figma fans wanting her for the sleepy/yawning faceplate or her miniature PSP. Overall, the figure is nice, but I only recommend her if you are a fan of the character and/or a fan of Figma's.

Availability

I haven't seen this figure for sale for a while, but I remember that not very long ago she used to go for 2500-3500 yen on second hand websites such as Mandarake and AmiAmi preowned. With that she has lowered in price, because she used to go for around 5000 yen second hand. Do keep in mind that if you want her for a price like that, you maybe have to wait and look for her for a while. At almost all times you can also find her for sale by members of this website and on eBay, with amounts being inbetween 50 and 100$ for her.

And to finish it!

Currently I have my figures in storage, but here is how I used to display her in my collection!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-meLkhYGVl_k/U_X_i-EuNTI/AAAAAAAABTs/K6Q9HrlXIHI/s912/IMG_1729.JPG

I didn't really have a place where she fit, so I decided to display her with my more pastel/dreamy-figures! I hope I can come up with a good new place for her when I unpack my figures in my new place!

For those who read all this way, thank you! My next review will be about Yami Malik ITEM #119377 !

VioFitz (3 years ago) #2405633Nevermind there. Hmm... I don't think so, my Mother did not know about my blog at all, even she knows internet browsing not quite much.

Ah yeah, same for my mom. She barely is on the computer. She only goes on there during working hours, because she has to for her job! :P

VioFitz (3 years ago) #2376515Lol, who said that? I didn't lost any of them, I wrote it on my review actually. :P Nvm & one thing to note, that I'm still living with my parents. Displaying Chihaya which her design got an exposed belly would made my mother angry.

VioFitz (3 years ago) #2368900Yes, that thing is just freaking too small to handle & I hardly can feel it on my fingers, I'm afraid I'll loose them if I want to use it again. I thought I told you that I currently don't have a place where I can display my figure.

Maakie (3 years ago) #2359885Oh woops, my mistake there! Anzu has indeed the old design box. I'm not completely up to date with the figma-line, because Anzu is the newest figma that I own!
So you're not using the tear/sweat drops when displaying her? You only used them for the review?
Ah nice, you got quite some parts replaced! I'm quite lucky with my Anzu only having this blotchy hairpiece! Unfortunately because my figures are stored right now, I can't take pictures of Anzu with the new hairpiece, but I will do that in the future!
I don't know about that...to me it looks quite random when they decide to shade and when not. Because it's not like all the popular characters get shading and the not-popular ones no shading...
And thank you very much! I have quite some free time soon, so I hope to soon upload a new review again! :)

VioFitz (3 years ago) #2356167You welcome!
Err... Nope, Anzu was released last year while Chihaya on this April, that's why Chihaya got a new designed box.
Yeah, because I want to create a quite informative review here so, I did my best to attach those tear/sweat drops. I just begrateful enough that I didn't lose any of them.
Hmm... Since I don't play Nendoroid so, I don't know much on how the box progressed here. But, they seems improving when I touched the new designed box recently on the toy store.
Good to hear that!! I also have received my Figma Chihaya replacement parts here, containing 1 hair, 1 thigh, 1 torso (including skirt), & her 2 armbands.
Yeah, I guess so but, I think also depending on the series as well, maybe?
You welcome again! Goodluck with your next review!

Maakie (3 years ago) #2350574Thank you very much! :D This figma is indeed very true to her character! ^^
Oh, that's interesting! But I think Chihaya is an older release, right? So maybe people made too much mistakes while putting on her sweat/tears, so they decided to include a manual with Anzu?
I remember you using them for your review, but I'm really afraid of damaging my figure! >.<
With Figma's I like the older design boxes more, but I think the new Nendoroid-boxes are an improvement!
Yes, I got an answer from GSC! They are going to send me a replacement part for the hair! Now the wait begins! ;)
Shading is really different on each figma. It's not like all the newer ones get shading or something like that. So it is really specific and I guess related to the budget of the figure. (Less accesories/faceplates means more detailed painting possible?)
Oh right, I remember you do those in your reviews! Thanks for the tip, I will defenitely do that if I review another action figure! ^^

VioFitz (3 years ago) #2347645This is a very interesting review, since I'm an avid fan of action figure! Comparing the figure between the original art, she looks very perfectly accurate imo.
Lol, your history about liking her is pretty much the same like I used to buy some figmas including Chihaya.
Man, it's funny that Anzu's instruction manual includes a picture where to put the sweat/tear drops while my Chihaya didn't have any picture where to put the sweat/tear drops. I wouldn't know that was a sweat/tear drops if it's not because of MFC fellow who mentioned "sweat/tear drops". Of course, that accessories sheet now will always remains on the plastic bag, since I had enough to use those. I completely understand why nobody reviewers would dare to use those.
To be honest I prefer this box design better than the newly designed, because the layout & the fx motives looks far eye catching than the new one. The new one as far as I see from the store, the box design looks so plain simple & not really eye catching. They only consist 2 plain color, 1 depending from the character figure & 1 for the lower one is mostly plain black. However, I have to admit the box quality is alot better than the old one.
Aww, shucks on the hair... So, you got the answer? I hope they want to replace it, since they could accept a minor paint issues on my Chihaya.
Now, that you mentioned about shading, I realized that some of my figmas doesn't have any shading on the hair. However, my figma such like Nene, Shana, Inori, & Kuroyukihime had a shading on their hair.
Anyway, a little feedback about the figure review, since you're reviewing action figure. I think it'd be better if you also show some pose that show how dynamic & flexible she is, so people will know as well.

Thank you very much! :D This figma is indeed very true to her character! ^^

Anyway, a little feedback about the figure review, since you're reviewing action figure. I think it'd be better if you also show some pose that show how dynamic & flexible she is, so people will know as well.
