It Has Arrived: Sailor Moon Star LocketIt Has Arrived: Sailor Moon Star Locket

http://www.sailormooncollectibles.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/sailormoon-star-locket-toy2015feat.jpg

I know this isn't a figure, but I haven't met a Sailor Moon fan that hasn't at least tried to find that item. The Sailor Moon Star Locket. It pops up on eBay pretty often, but usually for hundreds and hundred of dollars. It's currently up for preorder at the Premium Bandai website in both Gold and Pink and, at leat as of writing this, at CdJapan.

It's around $54-$60 US Dollars without shipping, which is still a nice price after taking a quick look on eBay. I'm more excited for this than any of the actual figures (though the Pullip still has me on the fence). Sailor Moon Collectables has a pretty in depth guide to getting it (and most items).

Anyone else excited about the re-release of the Star Locket? Anyone going to pre-order it? (And then sell it for 5 times the price later on? :P)

Ruritto (4 years ago) #2427309I managed to go check reviews of the old versions on youtube and I'm really hoping these have a slower melody. While the ones in the old one are tolerable it would sound better and slower.

I'm just crossing my fingers that they'll take more care since they know that people in their 20's and 30's will be buying them up. And that we're much picker (and meaner lol)

StrawberryFuma (4 years ago) #2426609This one may have a slow melody? Has it been confirmed that it won't? (Or that Proplica will take it on as well?)) No idea... but if one proplica is done will have the proper melody sure!!

UnlimitedCodes (4 years ago) #2411962I can't imagine any sane person still willing to pay $800+ for an old, scratched up plastic toy, when they can get a brand new, superior version for less than $70.

Well, I agree with you, but it happens. I have a friend that is going to buy the 1992 version, I'm not saying that I understand it.

StrawberryFuma (4 years ago) #2414143I'm hoping that this one will be better quality. I know it's not from the Proreplica people, but I'm hoping that, since this was made with collectors in mind, they'll take more care in it's production. The 90's one was very much meant for kids, so I'm hoping that because they seemed to be focused on adult collectors that it won't be quite so bad.

Yeah, I think many of us are hoping that they'll be fixing some things now. If not the paint or anything like that then at least the music...

Plume (4 years ago) #2413822The Star Locket wasn't my biggest priority merch-wise but I am still excited about it. I ordered the gold version. The pink one looks odd to me, with the golden lid... and also I generally don't like pink and I don't understand the insistence of making even items that are not pink on the show look pink in the merch. I guess I understand why other people bought it, though: the whole "omg it was so limited and worth 3000-4000$ so I just HAD to get it now that it's available!" thing. But from the point of view of a fan of the anime, that thing is off-model so... bleh.
My only worry is that it's part of the "Moonlight Memory" series. I'm not a big fan of those items: I own one of the compacts and it looks like a cheap toy to me, nowhere near its value in money. And I was also tempted by the Disguise Pen but then gave up on it only to find that I don't like how it looks in people's online reviews. Anyway, my compact has fragile paint (the kind that comes off in chips) so I assume the new Star Locket will have the same sort of paintwork done to it. Which makes me fear that in 20 years it'll look far worse than the old '90s toys do today. Also, I really hope that they'll use this opportunity to make the song slower and less cranky. I haven't seen a single Star Locket on YouTube that played the song right - and since they're going to imitate the old toys, I'm afraid they'll make it fast just for nostalgia's sake or something.
So... yeah, there's a lot of "if"s in there. But at the end of the day it'll be the best official version version of the Star Locket (for now), so I'm still happy to have the opportunity to add it to the collection. As for the value of the old toys, it might decrease a bit but not by much. The way a book's first edition is valuable no matter what luxurious versions get published 40-50 years later, the first edition of collectibles will also still be very valuable to serious collectors. The same goes for the pink version: you could say that the ones we're getting now are just copies of the hard-to-find first pink edition, and thus the old ones are still the most desirable. Again, for some collectors. To me they'd just be overpriced pieces of not-working-properly plastic :))

I am so happy that they finally announced these little cuties! Well, i didn't know that a pink one existed in Japan until now and was surprised about this variant.
I've waited so long for this release. I thought it will be a proplica release since the Moonlight Memory releases didn't have any function like playing music.
First, i only ordered the gold version on CDJapan (i nearly fell out of my bed when i saw that they were only 30 units left xD) and then i was thinking about the pink version. Do i need the pink version, too? Well. The more i thought about it, the more i wanted it. And now i've ordered them both. It's crazy that they are already sold out... I am so happy that i could get them!

TOTALLY agree with you! I don't understand why you should spend so much money on a TOY (the new release is made as a collector's item) with scratches and in a bad condition just to say "well yes, i got the inferior version for more money lol!"
