[Q] Detolf Lights[Q] Detolf Lights

Hi guys,

I got my first Detolf some days ago. I was having doubt about being able to hide the wires from shelf lights so I looked into some battery driven ones.

The one I could find that looked the most promising is called Osram DotIt, it has 3 leds and sticks to the bottom of each section with some strong adhesive. The link is here: www.osram.com/o...

Any one of you have any experience with these? Will they be able to light up a section each? (I don't mind replacing the batteries from time to time to avoid wires.)

Thanks! o/

Hi Tia,

Thanks for the picture, I remember seeing your post when you got done with the strips. I actually looked at them, or some close to, in Ikea, though the diodes were far too bright for my liking and I found myself getting blinded by them. A bit like when people are driving with those super bright LED's on their car. :D I am sure they will supply enough lighting though. But I think I catch your drift with angling the wires on the sides of the metal pieces. Though I think I liked the round, iced LED's they had in Ikea a bit more because that way they won't be that bright. (Since I gotta sit fairly close to them due to space limitations.) I'll have a picture up when I get around to getting them.

Thank you again and lol, what a good little conversation you two had their. ;)

Tiamat26 (4 years ago) #2774975Well if you want any let me know This would be simple to send to you and a bubble enveloppe I could send you like 4 rolls if you like. If you do want it though I could see what shipping is to you and you could send money to my Paypal account and I would ship it out for you.
offer still stands if you like. I would think between $ 10 - 20 Cdn should cover it max as this has zero weight to it and almost zero size.

I'll remember that offer thanx
I'll do another quick look around here because I find it quite weird that I can't find it anywhere over here, I mean they should sell that in like some arts/crafts shop (even though I already went to like 5 of them XD)

again thnx for the offer, if I really can't find any I'll give you a sound (I might just let you know if I would eventually find some as well)

Kosura (4 years ago) #2774960I'm from belgium ... not really next doors now is it XD
It's not that cold over here ignoring the fact that I mostly stay indoors under 3 layers of blankets but that's just cuz I don't do anything the entire day XD
But overall I'm pretty used to cold since I used to work in a fridge/freezer for more than a year, u get used to it.
I remember we had double sided tape at school (normal double sided tape) so they should sell it somewhere but I went to pretty much all the stores nearby even in some that I know wouldn't have it but I still went looking and asking for it.
But thanx for the offer, I appreciate it ^^

Tiamat26 (4 years ago) #2774950Where do you live? If you are in an area that requires you to put up some plastic in your windows then I also use that 2 way tape. If you don't understand what I mean then no issues its not cold wenough in your area for haing plastic in your windows. And that makes me jelous.
If you are close enough let me know I have tones of this tape at home I will send you some.

Kosura (4 years ago) #2774858The only double sided tapes I find here are like at least 2-3mm thick for some reason. I've checked quite some shops now but can't seem to find any normal 2 sided tape, I don't know if it's because I'm looking for it or just cuz they try to annoy me XD

Tiamat26 (4 years ago) #2774849For the top LED I make sure it is not attached to all the wires that I bring into the Detolf. if you look at the picture closely you can see that the wire for the top led is independent. I have not had issues with the top led becasue of wires.
As for the LEDs wanting to go loose I think its common to have this happen. I used a thin transparent 3M 2 way tape at 3 locations to sick the LED's to the glass. I have had 1 or 2 come loose, I think its coing to happen once in a while. That is why I now check them every few months before they fall. If its loose I take off the LED strip and put new 3M tape and put it back on the glass shelf.

Kosura (4 years ago) #2774807I did the same thing. I only have problems with the top leds because my cable tries to drag it down.
I fix'd it mostly but I was wondering if you have/had the same problem?
Also for some reason leds and me ... we don't work well together, they always seem to get loose after a while .... :(

Tiamat26 (4 years ago) #2774785the lights wires are not all that hard to hid if you want to be nimble with your fingers and have a few tie wraps. The only place you see my wires is on the top plate of the Detolf and the only reason for that is the Detolf is not white. but that is soon fixed.

Not sure if the pic is big enough but you can see that I tie wrapped my wires to one of the posts coming donw and then I tie wrapped it again to one of the horizontal bars. I have other pics at home I think. I will look for them and post them if you want to.
