Amil Manaflare - Shining Blade - KotobukiyaAmil Manaflare - Shining Blade - Kotobukiya

alazif03alazif034 years agoReview
Hi everybody!

Today I'm going to review a figure which doesn't seem to be popular on MFC, that is to say Amil Manaflare from the Shining series, made by Kotobukiya.

Amil is one of the three heroines the player can choose in Shining Hearts. In the game, she's working in the bakery "Le Coeur" alongside Neris Filiam and Airy Ardet and she also possesses powerful magic.

PACKAGING: 8/10

The design of the box is similar to every Shining figures's box made by Kotobukiya. On the front and the top of it, there is an illustration of Amil standing up without her magic stick. The window on each side of the box looks like the red tulip of her hairpin. The illustration the figure is based on is printed on the back and the bottom of the box:

POSING: 8/10

Compared to Airy Ardet ITEM #166969, released some months before, Amil has a bit more dynamic pose, like she was about to spin around herself. Her braids and skirt floating reinforce the impression of movement. Amil is holding her magic stick in her hands, swinging her arms to the right. Her right boot on the ground, she's delicately standing on the tip of her left foot.

Let's have a 360° tour:

SCULPTING: 7/10

The sculpting work is good. Her outfits and hair are well detailed even on the back which can't been seen once Amil is displayed. The braids, which are a typical element of the design of Amil, look nice, and you can feel all the details when you run you fingers on:

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/alazif031426602441.jpeg

The usual line on the top of a figure's head is not flagrant since she's wearing a kerchief.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/alazif031426602139.jpeg

To me, her smiling face looks better than Airy's one.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/alazif031426603181.jpeg

I like the frilly orange part of her collar, the details on her long sleeves and the froufrou of her apron and skirt.

The skirt is removable: there was a piece of plastic under it to avoid a paint transfer, I assume. The skirt is composed of three parts glued together:

Without her skirt (a little fan service!):

Her wooden magic stick:

It's just a trifle but Amil has fingernails, so Kotobukiya paid some attention to details.

PAINTING: 7/10

Compared to Kilmaria ITEM #166971, one of the four Shining figures made by Kotobukiya I bought recently, the painting job is way better on Amil. On the dress of my Kilmaria, the white paint dripped (it's a bit ugly if you look close to the figure).

Of course, Amil's finishing work has several flaws, on her bandana or the inside of the her skirt:

And on one of her braid:

But it's not a big deal for me.

Are the Amil's colors too pale? Well I'd say they are quite true to the original illustration. I shot her with the box behind her to help us to compare:

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/alazif031426603672.jpeg

Moreover, there are some light shadings of brown in her hair and of green on her dress:

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/alazif031426602806.jpeg

The color of her skin turns good too:

THE BASE: 7/10

Most of Shining figures made by Kotobukiya only have a piece of plastic as base. But like Kilmaria and Airy, Amil got a more elaborated one, with both pavements and ground. However, I wished Kotobukiya didn't circle this more realistic base with white plastic.

Though there's a screw under the base, I think the figure is just glued on it.

ENJOYMENT: 8/10

Amil is one of my favorite Shining characters so a figure of her was a must-have for me (I only bought Airy to complete the trio of my Shining Hearts Girls). I don't know how the beach version of her is ITEM #153428, but the dressed Amil satisfies me. Maybe if Volks didn't choose to release a GK of her ITEM #111204, I'd buy their Amil. Anyway, the two sculpting jobs/details seem equivalent: PICTURE #633738. Though I prefer the pose of Volks Amil.

I know that Tony also drew Amil with both a magic stick and a basket full of breads but having her without breads to deliver doesn't bother me so much. I mean, Airy and Neris already hold baskets with breads, and somehow, I like to have Amil with a different pose and accessory. To assure a good visual harmony of the trio, I display Amil between Airy and Neris:

While i like amil.. Koto each time kind of looks too bland wit htheir tony figures.. Not many impressed me.

Here the face looks so off, one of the pics shows it so well, eyes are so far apart and she looks a bit lifeless.. Plus lack of shading..

Besides that i think the color scheme is pretty good and shes not horrible or something. Just misses that touch I need that makes me want to buy her now

I love her soft colours and overall design but the flaws on all of Koto's "Shining" series figures makes me hesitant. I have a few I found very cheap pre-owned but even with the cheap price the flaws bother me. If I can find Amil cheap enough (maybe 3000-4000 yen) I'd get her just because she is really cute.

Her hair looks really good, but something about her just seems lacking. Maybe it's because she has a case of Tony Taka sameface or maybe it's her overall washed-out colors, but somehow the figure just feels like she's missing something.
