Kracie Happy Kitchen Donuts review and experiences

MaakieMaakie2 years agoReview
Hello! As promised in my Candysan Loot blog/24278 from a while ago, here is a review of the Happy Kitchen Donuts set!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-bWaqlUnZIS8/VdnGGBJnJrI/AAAAAAAADeA/bvtqqSLtfSM/s912-Ic42/IMG_5068.JPG

Another happy and cute looking box! When I saw it for the first time, I already knew my donuts wouldn't turn out that pretty, haha!

The instructions on the backside are quite simple, even if you can't read Japanese (like me). Just to be sure I also checked a translated version online and this set indeed doesn't need microwaving.

All the parts are packaged again in a cute bag that also doubles as a cut-out box.

A masterpiece if I say so myself. View spoilerHide spoilerI'm joking of course. I messed up and couldn't straighten the thing again.

The tray consists of 5 parts. One measuring part for the water, 3 mixing parts and one big part to shape the donuts in.

The set comes with a mixing spoon and a lot of bagged parts: a piping bag, vanilla frosting, strawberry frosting, vanilla dough, chocolate dough, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lJgc-IR9NPQ/VdnGKtkmSVI/AAAAAAAADeo/gkU4OZPSJQM/s912-Ic42/IMG_5074.JPG

I started off with the vanilla dough. It needed a lot of mixing to get all the powdery parts out.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-TD_dQdSre84/VdnGLgEDX2I/AAAAAAAADew/hRm--eIjGUk/s912-Ic42/IMG_5075.JPG

The chocolate dough powder smelled a lot like chocolate milk mix. I had to hold myself back not to taste it!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I6SBFJG5JK0/VdnGMhquRzI/AAAAAAAADe4/ZTWXN-PjTbo/s912-Ic42/IMG_5076.JPG

The packaging recommends you to make 2 clumps of dough of each taste, but I just had so much dough, I could easily make 4 of each.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lOANCE35NzM/VdnGNdW2e7I/AAAAAAAADfA/GMg1zefsoDs/s912-Ic42/IMG_5077.JPG

You have to press the dough in there very firmly.

Pushing them out of the mold was pretty easy. Only one donut got damaged. 1 out of 8 is not bad for how I normally am with stuff like this.

The only thing that surprised me was the structure of the donuts. They were quite gooey and they reminded me of how the pizza of my Happy Kitchen Pizza Set blog/24411 felt before I put it in the microwave. I decided to check again, but couldn't find any info about this set having to be put in the microwave. So i shrugged it off and continued.

Next up I made both of the frostings. These looked a lot like real frosting. Their smell was very heavy artifical, though.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-piZYm8vj3b0/VdnGPMa2A1I/AAAAAAAADfQ/FGpfBPCZP7c/s912-Ic42/IMG_5080.JPG

The chocolate frosting was quite hard to mix as it was sticking to the sides of the mixing tray a lot (it was the least fluid of all three flavors).

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-OlxKkLl6Cpw/VdnGQGZfrUI/AAAAAAAADfY/zq5xxQ5pIkk/s912-Ic42/IMG_5081.JPG

As barbaric as I am, I put all the 3 different frosting flavors at the same time inside the piping bag and started decorating the donuts.

I tried to make it look good at the beginning, but the frosting was pouring out of the bag so quickly I just decided to make sure for the frosting to be on the donuts instead of next to it. With actual cooking, I worked with real frosting before and it was never this liquid. It's a bit unfortunate, because I would have loved to make my own details on these donuts. I think if you want to make this set yourself, you're better off buying some seperate frosting from the supermarket (or make it fully yourself) instead of the overly-liquid stuff this set comes with.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-booLc9jmTDc/VdnGQ8n5-0I/AAAAAAAADfg/s_AKNlZ5XSU/s912-Ic42/IMG_5082.JPG

I gave the vanilla donuts all sprinkles and the chocolate donuts all crushed chocolate.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GUuYW-bp0KA/VdnGR4KlD8I/AAAAAAAADfo/bikAvYBThrg/s912-Ic42/IMG_5083.JPG

And here you have them! A cute donut box with my 4 prettiest looking donuts! View spoilerHide spoilerYeah, you don't even want to see closeups from the 4 ugly donuts.

As for their taste. The dough was what I was afraid of. It tasted quite raw as the structure was still too gooey. The toppings and frostings however, all tasted really good!

Conclusion

This set was a lot of fun to make, but the taste wasn't that special. I'm still really confused with the donuts themselves, they tasted uncooked. The frosting that came with the set is not recommendable to use for detailing, but the sprinkles and the taste of the frosting were really nice!

Kracie makes other sets that are, in my opinion, a lot more interesting, such as the previously talked about Pizza set blog/24411 and my next review, that will be about the Hamburger Set!

mickeydeerho (2 years ago) #3818408I always liked warming up my doughnuts in the microwave (10 secs) but it probably won't help with these. Those doughnuts looked the part though, ha.
Read the past articles on Shin Chan and the sushi candy; this food play series is pretty darn cool XD

Yeah, with real ones I do that sometimes too, but with these I was too scared with screwing anything up without instructions. xD

Haha, thank you! I plan on making a lot more in the future! ^^

victorviper (2 years ago) #3818216The donuts look more appetizing than did the pizza :).

That sounds strange to me, as for me the pizza looked a lot better and this looked too raw. xD Thanks for the comment! :)

debinoresu (2 years ago) #3815298yess the post i was waiting for! great review! im really curious about the burger set, the savory foods they make candy for are always more mysterious.

Thank you very much! ^^ I hope to upload a review of the burger set next week!

All the savory foods I've had so far tasted like the real thing and all the sweet foods I've had were just random sweet taste with no relavnce to the food it looks like. :P

GodYagami (2 years ago) #3811096Oh my. Seems a lot of work for such tiny donuts.

It was, but I do this for the fun and not for the snack or taste. xD
