Ran Muramasa - the most exquisite loot -Ran Muramasa - the most exquisite loot -

Happy hump day MFC! In my last loot post I mentioned an item so "..." it would need a post by itself. So here we are! Today we'll be looking at the single most expensive item in my collection (sorry, Benten, but I still love you!) produced by SoftGarage.

To borrow a leaf from Wikipedia:

Softgarage (ソフトガレージ Sofutogarēji) is a Japanese company that produces anime, games, character goods, music, and books. Softgarage was the company that produced the GR: Giant Robo anime. Though Softgarage primarily focuses on the production of original video animation (OVA), it has also worked on anime television series and anime film.

On the goods front, which is the focus here, SG produces normal goods like oppai mousepads, dakimakura covers and straps. When they collaborate with Nitroplus however, they create high-end collectibles, for example:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/large/303689.jpg http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/large/303712.jpg

Super Sonico Oppai Mousepads. These are much larger than the standard oppai pad, designed to be G-cup in size and made with high grade silicon from M.J Original, a company that specializes in silicon prosthetics. Essentially, these are designed to be life-size and real in feel, the closest you can get to grabbing Sonico's breast.

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/theyasminshow1429339913.jpeg

A very limited Sonico hagoita, also with high-grade G-cup oppai.

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/large/325911.jpg http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/large/340298.jpg

And their most recent creation, the giant butt pad. These pads are huge, made with heavy silicon buttcheeks and softer silicon for the labia area. Crazy attention to detail, no?

The oshiri pads are the size of an actual backside:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447877676.jpeg

and are made for play, not for actual mousepad use (they are too large for practical use, but the perfect size for grabbing/spanking).

To the ecchi enthusiast, these probably sound like fun. The downside? Between the high quality ink printing, the high grade silicon, the limited runs (a standard SG run might be 100 units, though popular items get extra releases) and some of these items being hand-assembled... the price tags can be pretty damn steep.

Oppai pads: ~¥22,000
Oshiri pads: ~¥28,000

Once that sinks in, we'll keep moving...

In between these silicon crafts, SG made something tamer: two kakejiku, traditional Japanese hanging scrolls. The first one, Hanamizake, featured Sonico in her tipsy state:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/pics/figure/large/325912.jpg
The second, which we will visit today, is Ran Muramasa (Brilliant Muramasa). Made for the 5th anniversary of Fullmetal Daemon Muramasa, this scroll was limited to a single run of 55 units, priced at ¥27,000 after tax. Using the highest quality fabrics and ink printing, the scrolls were designed to last 50-100 years - more proof that my wife will outlive me.

Today, we'll examine and beg the question: Are SG goods worth their price tags?

Let's start with unboxing. The package in total weighs just under 2lbs.

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447873985.jpeg
In line with SG's attention to detail, the package contains white gloves for handling. I'm extremely pleased with this inclusion.

Ready! Removing the kakejiku box.

Inside is a paulownia box with a hand-painted label that reads "Ran Muramasa" and the 5th anniversary stamp.

The Muramasa image was originally used for the cover of a Nitroplus calendar, later featured in Namaniku Teishoku.

Muramasa is bordered by blue fabric covered in shining gold embroidery, and pale fabric adorned with shining flowers, that complement the sakura pattern on her kimono.

Muramasa's smolder, that adorable pout, makes my heart melt.

My camera doesn't do justice to the sharp linework on the print. No blurs, no smears. Her outfit is beautifully detailed.

If you're curious, here's the bottom bolster and backing.

Any flaws in artwork, quality or design?

As someone who follows Namaniku ATK's artwork, I know one of his habits is coloring with a square brush that makes for a jagged edge look. What I didn't notice until going over the photos for this entry is that it's actually present in the art:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/theyasminshow1447875504.jpeg
I actually find it to be kind of endearing, though.

I did discover one minor quality flaw: Some stray threads around the edges:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447874964.jpeg
http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447875628.jpeg
Of course this occurs in many sewn materials, but you could argue the price demands perfection. It entirely depends on how pedantic you are.

As for design, at first I wasn't keen on the color scheme of the scroll itself, but having it in hand, I see it actually works because it will look good against dark or light walls. The only design flaw I see are these two straps:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447875630.jpeg

Originally they were absent in the prototype scroll:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/theyasminshow1447878259.jpeg

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/theyasminshow1447878261.jpeg

So I assume they decided to fill that empty space by adding the two vertical lines. However, said lines aren't sewn down. This means, firstly, I have to smooth them myself. I'm assuming they didn't attach them because it would make for bumpy rolling/creasing in the scroll. The other problem is this:

http://fr.myfigurecollection.net/image/600/theyasminshow1447875632.jpeg
The extra string on each end. The white frayed ends look a little unsightly against this beauty.

Other than that, no flaws to report.

Bottom line, is it worth it? My answer is... yes.
This answer isn't biased by the fact that it's Murawifey. Expensive at it is, the flaws are minor for the most part, and it is designed with care and detailed so it can last a lifetime. Compared to my figures, I have to worry about them being sun-damaged/faded/warping/breaking, etc. Not to mention the price of some figures is inching dangerously close to the price of SG goods anyway...
I would willingly buy from SG again. Only problem is besides the steep price tags, their releases are limited + exclusive and are very close together, leaving no room for wallet recovery (in case you're wondering "Why don't you have that Muramasa butt pad?!" there's your answer :P)

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed. Until next episode!

Scrolls designed to last 50-100 years? Damn, I wish any of my merchandise would last that long!

This was an amazing read and an amazing item, I hope you continue to have lots of fun with it! :)

Wow! What a stunning piece of art you've got here, Yasmin! I don't think I've ever seen a wall scroll quite like this before. Between the fine craftsmanship and the attention to detail, there's much to be admired. And that really nifty container was a nice touch as well, and added to the overall presentation. You surely don't get just any wall scroll in a box like that, so it makes it feel even more special. And that's to say nothing for the gloves lol!

But what I'm really interested in seeing next is how you're displaying this beautiful piece!

escape_rope (3 years ago) #4791008I actually have two pairs of gloves like that and I use them when I dust my figures or move them to another place. They were really handy when I recently moved and I had to handle 400+ figures :)
Two sets of gloves? Awesome. Moving 400+ or even 100+ figures? I don't envy such a task D:

jkb (3 years ago) #4814227Man, that scroll is neat, I love the idea they used a special part of Japanese culture to make this item.
55 units and you got one ? good job !
On a side note, that big ass pad are now made to hang or display IMO, because I can't see them to be comfortable to use as a mouse pad long term. But maybe some people actually need that big of a pad under their wrist to feel comfortable.

SG advises against using it for an actual wrist pad because of the size and 90mm incline... you're more likely to just injure your wrist. It's for display and fondling more than anything else ;p

vyseoftheskies (3 years ago) #4838083This is why I shouldn't make posts when half asleep. >_<
Still though, that scroll is true art. I love the sophisticated look of it, and the white gloves are a nice touch. You just need to find a suitable place to hang it and you're set. My jealousy is still at maximum levels. I live, breathe, love Sansei Muramasa. If only it wasn't released at such a poor time for me, SoftGarage seems to release some quality products [albeit at a premium price]. Nice grab!
And yes, best of luck to you on your other purchase. Hopefully there will be some decent Black Friday sales, so you can find your way clear to do so. :)

It's okay, I do half-asleep posting all the time. (Like now!)
Don't be jelly.... just save. I think SG is going to keep going places with their Nitroplus partnership... we should be preparing even now...

vyseoftheskies (3 years ago) #4790613You have no idea how jealous I am of those two items. No idea. UGGGGGGGGGGGH!
But congrats on the purchase(s)! They really do look amazing, and thanks for sharing.

Zarathustra (3 years ago) #4790693I want angelia's butt on my desktop at all times!
I don't blame you, I think the Angela pad looks fantastic and I'm not even a follower of Rakuen Tsuihou.

dymitr (3 years ago) #4790725Truly a sight to behold.
I love the oriental feel of the design and you kust can not go wrong with a darkskin girl =3.

I purposely waited for you to notice because I was like "Is Tia messing with me right now??" LOL

SureFigures (3 years ago) #4790460I love the thumbs up in your new gloves lol
Every time I see this scroll on Y!JP for 35000-45000 Yen, I am filled with regret. But I'm happy to at least live vicariously through you. Thanks for sharing!
I can't stop thinking about those two straps. With how beautiful the rest of the scroll looks, they seem really out of place. I wonder if they are not sewn down to also give you the option of tucking them behind or the option of using them to hang the scroll? And if they meant to be sewn, no brief instruction? I can see why this is your one complaint. Overall seems like a worthy purchase! Long live The Wife!

I'm glad you appreciated it :D *thumbs up*

I think if you ever have the coin, you should make the splurge. It's not like there are many of these in existence, and there won't be another run. Only 55. And since FMDM is still a semi-niche franchise, much like my other love (wooser), the value of the goods is what you place on them.

The note inside the box is just a "be careful with hanging" note. The actual hanging part, the pale lavender part, is elastic. The straps just have to be smoothed down like so: PICTURE #1388655 though I suppose if you really don't like them you could flip them over to the back side.

einonymous (3 years ago) #4790593Oh wow, I'd actually love to have a giant mousepad... the mousepads people usually sell are so small... I currently use a placemat. And wouldn't having a butt/oppai on it make it better? :-P If only the price were like 1/2...
I don't use a mousepad at all, all my oppai pads are for display... SG does make normal size oppai pads but they're just regular pads of characters I don't know, using regular materials instead of fun boob-like silicon. Maybe one day they'll strike a middle ground? Wishful thinking...

VioMariner (3 years ago) #4789952Even though the material is made to last the quality is just so nice and with that price I'm scared of just breathing near it.
ε- ( ̄、 ̄)!!
Great review and photos though, it's lovely to see the intricate details of a real kakejiku. That illustration of Muramasa is stunning. I'd say it deserves to be framed but the scroll does an even more elegant job. For now I'll have to stick with my bootleg tapestries.

The bootleg tapestries are a lot less nerve-wracking than the expensive/limited ones I have, what since my home is made of papier-maché and all. LOL

Jess-kane (3 years ago) #4790237A really amazing piece! Sansei is super sexy! I would love to have this scroll in my collection...as well as the Sansei butt mousepad ☺️ Thanks for sharing!

TRUTH. Thank you! :)

HobbyCentric (3 years ago) #4789788She's absolutely gorgeous for my first observation.
For my second, as one who owns a very limited print item myself ( totally different genre ), I'm going to guess that number is the print in the series out of however many were made. I could be wrong though.***Edit*** Note to self, Duh..pay better attention - 55 total made. Perhaps the worker's I.D. number for who inspected it for quality control? Who knows....
For my third...stop teasing me with Sonico merchandise.

But teasing is fun! ;9

victorviper (3 years ago) #4789888I always wondered why some of these oppai/butt mousepads were so expensive, and now I know (I never paid attention to the size of some of them!). In the case of Sonico, that's a lot of silicone!
It sure is. The oppai pads alone are 1600g (3.5lbs) X_X
