Max Factory 1/6 Haruna SairenjiMax Factory 1/6 Haruna Sairenji

Today we'll be reviewing a beautiful bride, Max Factory's Haruna Sairenji. It's a lingerie wedding, so many of the shots below could be considered moderately NSFW...

About the character: Haruna Sairenji is a character from the well-known harem anime and manga To Love Ru. Haruna is a responsible and somewhat shy girl who has a crush on protagonist and harem-gatherer Rito Yuuki. Rito is willing enough to return her affections, but it's something of a running joke that whenever Rito is on the verge of confessing to Haruna or things are getting potentially romantic between the two of them, something happens (often one of the other girls causing chaos) which disrupts the mood.

Most of the girls in Rito's harem are aliens with various super abilities, and the fact that Haruna is an ordinary human sets her apart somewhat from the others. However, even though she does not have any special powers, she does sometimes display remarkable strength; when she is frightened or excited, it's common for her to pick up Rito and swing him around wildly.

This particular figure was clearly inspired by an illustration PICTURE #589975 from the To Love Ru Venus artbook featuring most of the female cast in bride-mode.

Packaging----------8.5/10

It's an attractive package, as the lacy pattern reinforces the bridal theme of the figure. The butterfly shaped window is a neat feature as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014156.jpeg

One side of the box features a large shot of the figure. The pastel colors give sort of a boudoir feel to the photo :).

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014158.jpeg

There's another butterfly shaped window on the other side panel.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014160.jpeg

The back panel in the box gives the prospective buyer of this figure a couple of different views of Haruna both with and without her bridal veil.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014162.jpeg

That veil occupies quite a bit of space, and as a result the blister and the package as a whole is pretty large.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014164.jpeg

Max Factory includes a little information sheet to help get the figure set up.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449014219.jpeg

Two pegs help keep the veil in place.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449109920.jpeg

Two pieces of Haruna's hair are removed to allow attachment of the veil. It took me a couple of tries to get the pegs lined up just right, and it required quite a bit of force to get the veil to stay in place. My solution to getting the veil attached was to cradle Haruna's chin in my hands, and press down fairly hard in the middle of the veil part.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449109922.jpeg

Ready for a white wedding!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449109924.jpeg

Haruna is not a small figure, and because of the space her veil occupies, the box is fairly large and heavy. The box measures 32 by 20 by 15 cm and figure plus box weighs just under 600 grams.

Posing----------9/10

Haruna is a little bit shy, and I like the fact that her body language signals this fact. She's also a very gentle girl (most of the time, anyway), and the way she's brushing her hair back suggests a relaxed mood.

Let's have a look at her.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110029.jpeg

Overall, the pose is quite nice although when we get down to the details, there are a couple angles from which she can look a little bit awkward. More on that in a minute.

Sculpting----------8.5/10
Painting----------9.5/10

Overall, the finish of the figure is excellent. Mine had one particularly noticeable flaw, but as we'll see that problem was a matter of manufacturing and not of the design of the sculpt. The design of the figure is generally excellent, although as alluded to a minute ago, there are a couple of issues on that font.

IMO, Max Factory couldn't have done much better with the design of Haruna's face. She is one of the more reserved To Love Ru cast members and this is reflected in her expression. I also like how Max Factory elected not to have the veil fall straight down her back, making the veil draw the eye.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110031.jpeg

Her violet eyes are very pretty and the little strands of hair down her forehead are a key part of the character's design.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110033.jpeg

These are obviously supposed to be white roses, but they seem sort of flat and smushed, don't you think? Granted, this is kind of a secondary feature of the figure, but Max Factory could have done a little better here.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110035.jpeg

Her skin tone turned out really nice. Haruna has a very fair complexion, but she doesn't look like a vampire.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110097.jpeg

It's hard to see, but on my figure, there were some little imperfections in her veil. In one spot, there's a scratch running vertically, and in the other spot it looks like there was some sort of paint or random crud stuck in the crease of the veil. This sort of thing will no doubt vary between figures, though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110099.jpeg

The flared shape of the veil means it won't obscure the rest of her body too much. Note the subtle definition on her upper back and shoulders.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110101.jpeg

When I said earlier that she looks a little awkward from certain angles, here's one of the things I had in mind. From this angle, the way Haruna is holding her left arm looks just a little odd. Of course, depending on the angle from which you'll be viewing her most of the time this could be a non-issue.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110105.jpeg

It's hard not to notice that her right arm looks really weird from this angle! The good news is that this is about the biggest issue I could find with the design of the sculpt.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110103.jpeg

There are quite a few nice little details on Haruna's bustier. The frilly trim is well-sculpted and it looks very lightweight and non-chunky. The wrinkles in the material suggest a light fabric, and in spots there's almost a translucent effect, which I hadn't really noticed from looking at the promo shots of the figure.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110159.jpeg

The way Haruna is tugging ever so slightly at her panties adds just that perfect little bit of sultriness to the figure, considering her generally reserved nature. Her fingers do clump together just a little bit, though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110161.jpeg

I like the detail in her armpit.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110163.jpeg

This might be favorite angle from which to view Haruna. You get a little bit of everything.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110165.jpeg

I like that ever so slight bulge of her stomach.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110167.jpeg

Her garters certainly are an eye-catching feature, but the fact that the garter is flat against her body where it attaches to the stocking but then becomes really taut just struck me as being weird. A big deal? No, just one of those things you notice...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110222.jpeg

The little rose shape of the garters' attachment points is another interesting feature I hadn't noticed until I saw the figure in person. Someone worked hard on the sculpt of Haruna's panties, too. The thicker trim around the top, the sculpting of the little bow, and the wrinkling of the material all show careful attention to detail.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110224.jpeg

Just like on her bustier, the frilled effect on the tops of her stockings is handled well. I couldn't find any jaggy edges of note.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110228.jpeg

Again, note the subtle translucent effect in the material.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110230.jpeg

A low-angle shot.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110283.jpeg

It looks like there's a little slot where her garters actually attach to Haruna's body, and you can see the attachment point.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110285.jpeg

On mine, there was a thin layer of excess glue here on her breast. I was able to get some of it off with a Magic Eraser, but I was unable to remove all of it. The bright lighting used in my photo setup makes it look worse than it probably is, though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110289.jpeg

The grey-to-white color gradient in her stockings looks really nice!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110330.jpeg

I like how you can see her toes through the stockings.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110332.jpeg

Maybe I'm just trying too hard to be picky, but the end of her foot is kind of flat, isn't it?

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110334.jpeg

We've seen some picky issues, but overall I'd say that the quality of the paint and sculpt is significantly above average.

Base----------8/10

The hexagon base is kind of a change of pace, and the script in which her name is written and the pastel colors certainly complement the bridal theme.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110336.jpeg

The base seems larger than it actually is in my opinion, as it is approximately 5.25" (13.5 cm) at its widest point.

Scale Comparison

Haruna is just over 10 inches (25.5 cm) tall, and since you need to know these things, I estimate her bustline is about 4.5 inches (11.5 cm). Haruna is established to be 5'3" (160 cm) with a bustline of 31 inches (79 cm) and based on her height she looks about 1/6.3 in scale, but that would give her a bustline of 72 cm. Maybe it's just the effect of the bustier, but she seems a little bit smaller than expected in that area.

Here is Haruna with another candidate for the title of "best stockings", Kotobukiya's Mina Tepes ITEM #27853 . Mina is also listed at 1/6 scale, but she's much more petite to begin with than Haruna.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110386.jpeg

It would seem that Haruna and Sonico ITEM #198576 have very different tastes in lingerie! Sonico is 1/6 scale, and I think you can see here how Haruna is marginally smaller in scale.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110426.jpeg

One thing I like about both of these figures is that while they both show off a fair amount of skin, they also seem quite chaste. Alter's Muse of Range Murata ITEM #186018 is 1/6 scale.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110465.jpeg

Haruna and Yami are probably my two favorite To Love Ru characters, and the contrast in their outfits here is quite neat. Aquamarine's Yami ITEM #300672 is 1/8 scale for comparison purposes.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110535.jpeg

Some of my favorite nice girls, Kotobukiya's Haruka Amami ITEM #98896, Alter's Maia Mizuki ITEM #944, and Good Smile's Haruka Suzumiya ITEM #43. Haruka, Maia, and Haruka are 1/7, 1/6, and 1/8 scale respectively, and you can see how Haruna Compares.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110655.jpeg

I could never quite figure out if Tamaki ITEM #27625 here was supposed to be wearing lingerie or a swimsuit. I think it's the former, but who knows. Tama-nee is listed at 1/6, but if you own that figure you probably realize she's much bigger than that in person.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1449110795.jpeg

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9.5/10

Arguments for: Many. Her pose and facial expression perfectly convey Haruna's personality, her outfit has many interesting little features (the shading of her stockings, and the details on her bustier and garters), the figure nicely duplicates the illustration it was based upon, and I like how that even though Haruna shows off some skin, she still gives off an aura of chasteness. The latter seasons of To Love Ru had a tendency to ramp the fanservice up to 11 at times, and I like the fact that did not happen with this figure.

Arguments against: It's kind of hard to get her veil properly attached, a few quirks in the design of the sculpt (the appearance of her arms from certain angles is the worst offender), a couple of flaws in overall finish, and her scale seems slightly off in a couple of areas.

Overall, the good far outweighs the bad, and Max Factory has made quite the lovely figure here. It seems like Haruna sometimes gets overlooked in favor of other cast members, so I was very happy when this figure was announced, as Haruna might be my favorite To Love Ru girl. Highly recommended.

Availability (as of this writing)

Still available new.

As I write this both AmiAmi and HLJ still have her in stock. Most of the figures in this line have maintained their price pretty well on the secondary market, so I wouldn't necessarily expect a big discount if you decide to hunt this figure preowned. MSRP is 11111 yen.

If you didn't said it, I would have: "I like that ever so slight bulge of her stomach."
I'm not into Love Ru, but this bridal lineup is seriously first-rate eye candy. Definitely worth the expense.

There's a lot to like with this figure. Even though she might be a little bit off-model, her body type is very natural (like with that stomach!), and with her chaste appearance, Haruna really is a beautiful blushing bride.

Maakie (2 years ago) #5501065Ah, I never really got interested in watching To Love Ru (I didn't hear that much good stuff from it) and I'm just here for the looks of these figures. From when they first announced this line I got very interested in it, even though I never got tempted to buy one of them (so far?). ;)

It's probably one of the better harem anime out there, as the characters are memorable and the show even pokes some fun now and then at various harem tropes. It's not a landmark anime to be sure, but it's pretty good for a light and fluffy show :).

victorviper (2 years ago) #5476812Even though I can't help but think that the sculpt of her body is a little bit off model, I like it as well. It seems for lack of a better term, reasonable, as her proportions are not grossly exaggerated even though To Love Ru is a fanservice anime through and through. :)

victorviper (2 years ago) #5213999I see looking at your collection you don't have any Mikan figures. Do you not like the character, or do you just not like any of the Mikan figures currently available? I was in the latter category until Alter came through with ITEM #166752.
EDIT: just read your blog, I guess that answers my question :).
She's quite a lovely figure. I'm sure she's worth a spot on your wishlist :).

Glad you read my blog; yours inspired mine .

Haruna and Muse fit quite well next to each other.

I think so, too. They are both 1/6 scale, they both look nice in white, and there's a certain innocence about both of them. I was scanning my shelves for the figure I thought best complemented Haruna and Muse-san was the first candidate to come to mind :).

Tiamat26 (2 years ago) #5213369Lets see we have Mikan LaLa Yami and Kotegawa .. Only one that I am honestly not sure about is Mikan. I just can't come to grips with buying her for any of my wide selection of To Love Ru I own. Every other character no issues Mikan I just cant seem to be able to pull the trigger.
Worst if if I am making this specific set you just cant get the set without her. So I may just have to buy a figurine that I don't care about to finalize the set. I cringe when I say that .
