Variable Action Heroes: NamiVariable Action Heroes: Nami

(WARNING) This blog contains extreme sexiness and ass whoopings.

Yoho, everyone! It is to set sail on the Thousand Sunny to a review of another figure.

Today's review is MegaHouse's Variable Action Heroes: Nami from One Piece.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/ChocolateSpider1456855185.jpeg
When Megahouse announced an action figure of Nami's 2 year timeskip version, I knew I had to get this. I have a massive anime crush on Nami. She is, as some people say, the original waifu. Nami was a prominent player in the birth of the waifu trend which we all enjoy so much today. She played a leading role in paving the road for future waifus to walk on. I base this statement on personal opinion, which fully substantiates my claim. All opposing arguments are invalid because Nami is princess! O3O

First, let's take a look at the paint job.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764582.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456872750.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764578.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764393.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456872748.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456872746.jpeg
The paint job on this action figure is quite nice. Her skin, hair and jeans have a great use of shading, giving it all a certain feel of realism. The jeans especially have been very well painted.

Next we will look at the accessories and parts.
First is her face plates and hands.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/ChocolateSpider1456764580.jpeg
Her expressions include confident, left glance confident, wink and shouting. Her hand parts include fists, pole holding, open with fingers spread, open fingers together, pointing (left only) and OK (right only)

Personally, I wish this came with a super angry face like this one.

No Nami action figure can be complete without her shark face of infinite rage.

Bandai's S.H. Figuarts of Nami has a similar face plate, but I personally find its overall appearance to be kinda....meh.

The next accessory to look at is her weapon, the Climi-Tact.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/ChocolateSpider1456764897.jpeg

Her Climi-Tact comes with four weather effect parts, two cloud effects for Fog Tempo and two electric effects for Thunderbolt Tempo.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/ChocolateSpider1456765084.jpeg

Combine all four and you get this.

THUNDERCATS!!! HOOOOOOO!!!!!

......Oh wait. Wrong show.

Now let's take a closer look at the articulation system.
The biggest downside to this action figure is that despite Nami's slender appearance, this action figure has surprisingly limited articulation range with its hips and legs.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764574.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764395.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456866185.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456866187.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456870051.jpeg
She has no articulation in her hips and her thighs have extremely limited range of movement back and forth. If you are wanting Nami to be able to sit up properly on something, that is not happening. The closest thing to sitting you can get with this action figure is a very poorly executed attempt at twerking.

Her ability to crouch is also very limited. So of she drops one of her precious tangerines, she will have a hard time bending down to pick it up.

Speaking of twerking, I did discover something interesting about this figure that I will admit gave me some guilty entertainment.

The top of Nami's jeans can be tugged down a little bit so you can have a small peek at her glorious booty. O3O
https://33.media.tumblr.com/59b5b7f61bb1c3421e5aee30a7d83f35/tumblr_inline_n3qjj5R1da1r2dudr.gif

However, her legs do have a fair degree of side movement. So she is able to pull off some decent kicking poses. But the fact that her ankles have no sideways flexibility still hinders any kicks or crouches you may attempt.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/600/ChocolateSpider1456764218.jpeg

Her upper body's range of movement fares better than the lower portion.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456764576.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456768662.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456769679.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456768660.jpeghttp://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/thumbnails/ChocolateSpider1456772644.gif
Along with a standard range of movement in her arms, her shoulders have some articulation as well. Her torso can move at all angles to a limited degree, but still enough to do what the torso needs to do. Her hair has only a small bit of movement back and forth, so chances are you are not going to get her hair to blow accurately in the wind.

Despite the limitations in articulation, this action figure is still capable of pulling off numerous cool and sexy poses.

Special moment during the photo shoot

Honoka learned a valuable lesson that day.
Never photobomb a model during her photo-shoot.

Overall, I would say this is a good action figure of Nami.

Still a few points away from being the great action figure that One Piece fans are looking for, but it's pretty close. Add some more flexibility in the legs and hip, throw in an infinite rage face and it would be perfect.

Thanks for reading this review, everyone. Now that I have finished this review, I can start writing my February Loot Post. See you all then! ;D

I have the same thing for Trafalgar Law.

I don't even like One Piece, but I find him so attractive.

Worstluck (3 years ago) #7055491I think your writing is great, descriptions are detailed and clear, and I just love the jokes here and there... :)
When I saying "A little Messy Layout" I mean the pictures of different sizes and aspect ratios just packed here and there between the texts makes it looks a little "cluttered" on the screen. It's my personal view and don't take it seriously.
you are certainly right about the pictures of different aspect ratios. I'll admit that I did not take consideration for how they would all look grouped together in thumbnail form. But I will keep that in mind for my next loot post. :)

Worstluck (3 years ago) #7054930Nice review. Well written and good photos, though the layout may be a little messy? I am not actually a One Piece (And Thunder Cats...) fan but still have a lot fun reading it. Messy how exactly? I am always looking for ways to improve my writing. :3

I really want to like the VAH line but every time I see them I wish they were better. I do think she is one of the better looking of the bunch, but like you I feel that she is lacking (and of COURSE she needs and angry face AND a beri face!!). I think Megahouse's approach isn't quite there yet and they aren't capturing the fun of One Piece. I don't think anything better will come out, but I'll just keep looking at pictures of the VAH and not buying them, unfortunately.

I did love your review, your photos gave me a great idea of what this Nami has on offer and I'm glad you can have a figure of a character you love so much <3

Plus their size can be awkward with my figmas and such >_<;;
