How to store away a Dakimakura coverHow to store away a Dakimakura cover

Hi folks,

I stumbled across a tutorial on a Japanese Dakimakura cover blog and I found it so super simple, but yet even so totally effective.
Actually, I wondered why I didn't think of this method earlier. What I did was simply fold it and fire it into the cupboard. As you know, cupboards are not really airtight and after a while even your freshly washed pillow cover becomes dirty from the dust or moths start to eat them away.

Anyhow, the source is found here:

I took the liberty to shoot a quick video including subtitles explaining it.

And here is the result after applying this method for like 15 minutes. (The pillow covers included by magazines and games are still with the magazines and games. Only the "loose" ones are displayed here)

Even other merchandise than Dakimakura covers fit perfectly.
Here are some towels, bed sheets and T-Shirts.

Finally, I placed it into containers. The outside measurements are 35cm wide, 24 cm height, 40 cm depths. I can fit 14 pillow covers in one.

Might be useful to one or another or totally not at all since you're much more intelligent than I.

(Any particular questions to the covers since not all are in the database? Just name which, I'll try to answer.)

darkfader (3 years ago) #7547222I just fold them and stack them up as is, but it's difficult to get to the bottom if it's inside a box. Perhaps I should try this too. Anyways, great selection of dakimakura! I also ordered that Kuro, but don't have the other 2.
Oh why, thank you :) You do have a nice collection as well. Especially the Monobeno covers and some others of which I haven thought to be seen in the west ever.
I almost missed out on the other two or rather I forgot about Rin in the first place. But I kept hunting and saw that the manufacturer made a poll, voting for a special resale-period for Rin; i.e. if interest was present. In the end he kept his promise, offering exactly as many pieces as positive votes were (I did vote too and specially registered at twitter to do so). So, there were ten extra covers and I am glad my proxy could grab one. It was all pre-announced after all, but you know how some people are. Don't lift a finger, but want want want. So, I really crossed fingers that I get one of the ten. After I got the confirmation I ordered Usa and waited for Kuro. Sometimes I can go crazy with what I want to have... XD.

LeviathanX (3 years ago) #7411556Hm, the feels depend on the material. I couldn't distinguish it since I have a lot made of the same materials. As for the colors, have you checked your detergent?
At least in Germany, detergent for "white clothes" with "extra white boost" contains a certain percentage of bleach which, of course, "attacks" your colors. Detergent for "colored clothes" usually does not. Washing inside out is also common sense, but you surely do :)
Mine, at least the ones I've used so far, have no color distortion. Though, my bed has some sharp points... At least only my cheap bootleg pillow cases have been affected by this (resulting in some loose threads randomly spread across the surface). Unless I've a new bed I won't use my expensive ones.

They're all made of the two-way tricot material; they've all kind of developed their own feels. It's weird, but it's the case! I used color detergent when I wash them too :) A lot of washes make things fade eventually, I guess. And of course I wash them inside out. It'd be crazy not to. The one I have most affected by anything other than washing is my Sanya, who was a Wonder Festival exclusive I think. She has all kinds of little pills and stuff just from being snuggled!

spasepeepole026 (3 years ago) #7220929Nah. I can usually see a bit through the inside out cases, and it also makes them less conspicuous should anyone see them. I've also gotten pretty used the the way each ones feels, so most of the time I can grab the one I want just by the way it feels when I touch it. I wash them, but too many washed makes the color fade. That's happened to my Minna, and I'm quite sad about it :( Hm, the feels depend on the material. But, isn't your method making it a bit difficult to select the "Daki of choice"? I kind of like this shown method since the face of the character becomes well displayed and makes your choice much easier ^^...
Well, parting for the washing machine is not so hard to do; at least for me. You want it to smell nicely, don't you?

LeviathanX (3 years ago) #7195425Haha... :D Sorry for that, but I try not to "annoy" people with my taste of music and focus on the actual content. (And my voice is just horrible (if you see another video of me talking (the video on the Fuji summit; yea I am not used to talk to "cameras" either XD))
As for the method, I think the simplest things are the hardest to think about, right?

I think that's mostly because we think it can't be that simple. Most people think things are difficult or something isn't correct if things go to easy/smooth.
As someone who used to really enjoy math I had this issue a lot in school where the harder the question was the easier it felt while the easy question took me forever cuz I just felt as if I was doing it wrong XD

Kosura (3 years ago) #7000339you should've added in some music or something on the background cuz I think I checked my volume a couple of times cuz it was so silent XD
But idk why I never thought about it that way. It's the same for how I fold my sweaters and such. I kind of feel dumb now XD

spasepeepole026 (3 years ago) #7169138I turn mine inside out and put them on their own special, enclosed shelf. I fold them into thirds twice and keep them in a neat stack. They have stayed nice for years :) The hardest thing for me is cleaning them after a million nights of snuggles.
