Has your figurine come out any smell?

KazusaKazusa1 year agoAsk MFC
Hi MFC
firstly, this is my first blog after 10 months here(or more) hahhaha

i have a question regarding a smell come out in my figurine
i keep all my figurine inside an acrylic box (dust free box)
when the first time i put inside the figurine still have no smell like normal figurine
then i realize when i open again after a few months, my figure got a strange smell
like.. stink smell
the stink smell like a new item you just purchase ( i don't know how to describe it)

my question is, is all figurine always come out the smell like that after a long period of time ?

Probably even just opening and closing the dust free box every now and then would move enough air to 'freshen up' the air in the case. How often could vary depending on stuff like the specific chemical composition of the plastic, but I can't imagine needing to open it more than once every couple weeks or longer.

Yes leaving them open for a while should help. I can't say how long in your case, but doing it routinely should help. Since mine are on open shelves I dust them once a week (a small amount of dust is on the shelves and a little bit is on the figures) and that's about it. There's no smell etc.. Try airing them out once every couple of weeks (or a month) and see what works best to keep them from smelling.

fgrthiuy (1 year ago) #15881264It's usually closed up, and for like a week at a time at least. It's never a strong or overpowering smell, just the sweet smell of tons of PVC, Heheh.

Stalgonoff (1 year ago) #15880771Do you leave your door or window open while you are out of the room? My room has zero air circulation when the door and window are shut so I leave my door open always and my window open a crack except in the dead of winter. I have never noticed the smell of my figures aside from when I first take them out of their original box. I keep all of my figures on the shelves on my desk and bookshelf beside it, so they are fairly exposed to air though.

so in my case, i just let them take a fresh air and put it back again inside the free-dust box?

fgrthiuy (1 year ago) #15876147Heh, every time I go home and first walk into my bedroom full of figures, the whole room smells a little of PVC...
I usually crack the window and turn on a fan for a brief time whenever I'm first back just to clear the smell.

KevSheep (1 year ago) #15876061Yup it is normal, if I were you I'd air out the figures here and there so that the vapors can escape since I remember reading up about figures that were stored in their boxes for a really long time ended up getting all sticky due to the plasticizer vapors being trapped in the box and just sticking to the figures.

ah okay
thanks for your information
really appreciate :)
