♥ WELCOME WELCOME!♥

Thanks for visiting my second customizing Diary entry!
Last time I did Echizen Ryima - Hatless Version -
This time I am going to customize a complete character!

Who is it going to beeeee~?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/Flippy1242.jpg
Sergeant Flippy (O'Conmnell*) ~ Happy Tree Friends

*O'Connell is custom made last name! Deal with it xD

I am just terrible in love wiht this character and I know there will NEVER be a humanized Figure of him or any other HTF character. So why not taking action instead of whining about it?
Well here we are! Let's get started!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/01.jpg

For this Customizing Project I bought Okurikara since he looks the most like Flippy and wont need too much changes in modeling, especially: he got "Dogtags" already!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/02.jpg

So Let the Customizing start!! ♥

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/03.jpg

First of all, he needs hos Combat Boots! Back to that Moment I wasn't sure about how to add the Shoe laces, Added them later when the Boots were dry enough to not destroy everything again.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/04.jpg

As next It's time to add a Second Dogtag on Both chains

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/05.jpg

To get sure to not mess up too much on the Shirt with the grey color I used some masking tape , of course it wasn't perfect but it avoid more messy mess ups XD

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/07.jpg

Both Dogtags are painted and ready to dry

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/08.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/09.jpg

In the Meantime I started to paint the Clothes in Army Green, the back rolled Arm sleeves are made in a lighter Green than th rest

Now it's time to add the Camouflage Woodland Pattern!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/11.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/12.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/13.jpg

I imagined this part as the hardest, but it wasn't. Adding the Camouflage was quite easy and since it doesn't have to be perfect ♥

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/14.jpg

Now time to add the Sergeant Emblems, sadly I had to notice that it doesn't work that way that easy So I had to reserve and start with the orange color first

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/15.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/16.jpg

Now it's time to modeling his hat whichw as very troublesome! Of course the hat is everything but perfect but better than nothing

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/17.jpg

While the hat is drying it's time to paint the face!
The Skincolor of Okurikara was too dark for Flippy, his faces doesn't look that well made yet, especially around the eyes (it's just so damn small to work there...) But I imagined a worse come out xD

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/18.jpg

Time to check if the Hat fits his Head! It does! time to refine the shape, remove some very ugly errors

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/20.jpg

And color it!
Yes there's still plenty rough places but I kept them on purpose

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/21.jpg

Almost done! Now it's time to paint the hair into his lovely green ♥

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/22.jpg

And of course - SEAL the Parts!
why does it always take AGES for that to dry? =~=

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v612/Seira-Chan/WIP%20Flippy/25.jpg

However! He's done!!
Please welcome Sergeant Flippy O'Connell!

HGave here some more Photos of him ♥

KukiTan3 years ago#18398812I still think that you did a pretty good job on him! Flippy is one of my most favorite characters that I hold dearly and it's great to see that someone made a DYI Nendo figure of him :D! He's so cool looking!! I kinda want my own one now..

Thank you very much :3
Same for me, he is my most fave char of the Show and I had to get something of him.
I need to confess that I was kinda scared of doing him, but I am glad I did :3

It's been a very long time since I did garage kits and tbh I didn't priming the Nendoroid parts but maybe should do that next time with a white color >-<
I will for sure sand the Hat again and other spots which looks kinda bad right now and will get sure to have the correct material for the "Scale" figure :3
And I will make sure to check a few tutorials :3

maggie3 years ago#18398636There is special artist/painter tape you can use to protect/block out areas. I agree on the sanding, there is also smoothing techniques depending on what material you are using. Are you also priming before you paint and using a setting spray/top coat after?
You have the right ideas, you just need to learn the process and the proper materials, I think. I agree with NemsEngelAceSasu, you have a lot of potential! Half the battle is being willing to mess around with a purchased product to change and modify it, and you're definitely diving right in!
If your next project is a scale model I highly suggest you learn about armatures, sketching before you sculpt, understanding what you want the final product to be (including a set of turn-arounds), and understanding the benefits and drawbacks of materials that you can choose to work with. Additionally, you have the benefit now of working on a nendoroid that comes apart in pieces so it is easy to paint and assemble, while when making and painting a scale model you definitely have to put thought into piecing out different parts of it to make the process easier in the long run.
Perhaps you might benefit from getting a garage kit and going through that process to help familiarize yourself with how the figure was pieced out, how it goes together, and the range of materials needed in sanding/painting it. There are lots of online tutorials on doing garage kits, and making customs out of different materials, reading them will definitely be a boon to you.

Thanks :3
