June Loot---Festival Time!

June's loot is small but contains some highly wished for items-a Christmas figure, a couple of prize figures, and a figure that instantly gained membership in my favorites list. Sounds interesting, right? The last item in this loot has some potentially NSFW features, so be careful with those spoiler buttons...

We've got four figures, something in a box and a PS4 game.

June's AmiAmi postcard features a new character, Amico's friend Chu-ko. I wonder if she'll become a regular on their postcards?

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124380.jpeg

First, let's dispense with the non-figure goods. The PS4 game is of course Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. I picked up the Vita version shortly after its release last year, but since I really prefer to do my gaming on a large screen, I was hopeful that Koei/Tecmo would eventually cave and do a North American release of DOAX3, at which point I'd spring for the PS4 version. However, it doesn't look like that's going to happen, so I figured I might as well grab a copy of the PS4 version now.

The item in the plain brown box is a metal poster, namely ITEM #586048. I like Coffee Kizoku's artwork, and I thought this poster would look good paired with ITEM #564572, which I bought a couple months ago. After matting and framing it, that Sumika poster ended up looking really cool (having a piece of glass over the poster plays up the fact that she is supposed to be pressing herself against a window) , and so sometime this week, I'll need to make a trip to the craft store so I can get this new poster set up similarly.

Now, on to the figures. I'm always on the lookout for figures to display at Christmas time, so first up is a Christmas figure of my favorite character, the one and only Asuka ITEM #148818. This one had been on my wishlist for some time, so when it showed up in AmiAmi's preowned section, I had to grab it.

The box was graded C by AmiAmi, and this is one of the rougher boxes I've ever gotten from them. The corners of the box were really banged up and the front window has started to crack, but for 1800 yen I can live with that.

For an old figure (released in 2005!), she's really nice! I like the knee-high boots and the Shinji doll :).

Next up is a prize figure of Hatsune Miku featuring one of my favorite modules, Sega's Ribbon Girl Miku ITEM #514087. As of late, trying to preorder Sega prizes has become much more difficult than it used to be. Thus, for a couple of weeks I diligently checked AmiAmi's preowned section each morning over breakfast waiting for one of these to pop up during their daily update. Apparently, I wasn't the only person waiting to pounce on one of these, since a couple of times someone grabbed her before I could get her in the cart and check out!

I was a little surprised to see that Miku needed some assembly. Her head and arm need to be attached, and that little cord goes with her headphones.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124755.jpeg

She looks really good in person! I really like her pink high-top shoes, too :). All the flair on her sweater and the headphones gives her something of a gal-like appearance, which I think is a neat look for Miku.

Next, we have another Sega prize figure of my favorite Girls Und Panzer character, Yukari Akiyama ITEM #484461. I was looking for another Yukari figure to go along with ITEM #265408, and in particular I wanted a larger-than-a-Beach-Queen figure of Yukari in her camo bikini. I just wasn't feeling it, however, from ITEM #287976, and so I was pretty stoked when this Sega figure was announced!

I have to say that Sega really got it right with Yukari's expression! Yukari gets really lively and fired up about all things tankery, and I think that part of her personality is captured perfectly.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124807.jpeg

If you're thinking about getting a Yukari of your own, I noticed lots and lots of painting imperfections on this figure (including some red and blue [?] blotches of paint on various parts of her body), so you might want to keep that in mind. For only 1300 yen, though, I'm satisfied that I got more than my money's worth, painting concerns and all.

Finally, we have a figure that over time I realized needed to be in my collection, Amakuni's Beelzebub ITEM #349076. The user photos have all looked really good, and I've been happy with the other Amakuni Deadly Sins figures in my collection, so when an A/B one showed up one AmiAmi, I grabbed it without hesitation.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124880.jpeg

Sealed-that's always a nice thing to see with a pre-owned figure!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124882.jpeg

The "Yomatsuri" pun on the box is sort of an interesting one, as this figure depicts the character in festival (matsuri) mode, while yoma can be translated as "monster". Given Beelzebub's demonic nature, "monster festival" seems an appropriate description of the scene. However, in Aramaic, yoma can also allude to a process of fasting in repentance which most people would probably find very difficult to do in the presence of the various delicious street foods found at a Japanese summer festival!

Beelzebub is an anthropomorphization of the deadly sin of gluttony, and I really like how this figure plays up the gluttony angle. It would appear that Beelzebub is indulging herself as much as possible at a summer festival, as she's got not one, not two, but three candy apples, a bag of cotton candy, and I assume that's a water yo-yo looped around her other wrist.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124884.jpeg

When her optional torso part is swapped in, she's holding three grilled cobs of corn instead of the candy apples. I was pretty amazed to see the level of detail there!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124886.jpeg

Beelzebub has two optional food items with which she can be displayed, and some fairly NSFW shots lurk behind the spoiler tags. You've been warned...

That's just a chocolate banana. I can't imagine that it could be seen as anything else. Yep, just a plain ol' ordinary run of the mill chocolate banana...

Ikayaki (grilled squid on a stick) is another popular festival food. That's just a grilled squid, and nothing more. You'd scarcely bat an eye at the sight of someone enjoying a delicious shoyu-drenched grilled squid at a summer festival...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1499124947.jpeg

Even though this is just a grilled squid and I can't imagine it being seen as anything else, I have to wince a little bit when I see it impaled on a stick like that.

I suspect the chocolate banana will yield doubletakes from houseguests, so I kind of doubt that I'll display Beelzebub with the squid. However, I do like the fact that she has so many different display options, as I like to mix up the look of my shelves every now and then. Heck, maybe at some point I'll change my mind and display her with the squid, since after all it's only a squid.

Beelzebub and Ryuubi Gentoku ITEM #80238 indulging in a little festival food and fundoshi fun :).

So that's it for June's loot, and as always...

THANKS FOR READING!

A happy July 4th to all the US MFC'ers as well!

victorviper (24 days ago) #23837066I'd kicked around getting that other Beelzebub for a while, but since I already had the Orchid Seed Leviathan and Amakuni Lucifer figures, I was holding out for a Beelzebub in 1/7 scale. I do like the insect wings on the original Beelzebub, though, since that alludes to the creature on which she's based. I can't really decide if there's any way the wings could have been incorporated into the design of this figure...

My 1/8 Beelzebub already feels pretty big, but that of course also includes her base. With her high amount of details and huge amount of wings, 1/8 is enough for me haha!

Oh gosh I love her wings so much I could talk about them for houuuuuuurs! <3 Here is a picture I made of them that I really like: PICTURE #1386829 I would love to get to some editing of this picture one day, to make it look better!

About the insect wings, they just sort of 'appear' from underneath the skirt. I guess officially they should be placed on her lower sides? Is there any art that show her insect wings on a more nakedly shown body of her? I can't remember that I have seen any!

Maakie (25 days ago) #23762719Haha, I know how weird it sounds. xD It's just that the phallic food is a bit too much for me. I know it's the artists style, but... :P
It's very interesting that you say that! I personally absolutely love my ITEM #97006 and she became one of my favorites very quickly too! Although for that figure one of my favorite parts about her is the outfit, which she is of course missing in this figure, haha! :D

victorviper (1 month ago) #23510023If you're thinking about getting that Beelzebub figure, I wouldn't necessarily let the ecchi foods be a dealbreaker (although it's kind of funny that the fundoshi doesn't make her "unsafe" :) ), as she certainly looks just fine without holding either the squid or the banana. In fact, of the figures I've bought so far this year, she might be my favorite!

Maakie (1 month ago) #23498312Ohh~ Nice loot! It was fun seeing Asuka, that little Shinji is so funny! And I love that Beelzebub figure, but all the ehm...phallic food is a bit too much for me, haha! And I am not sure if I like her enough to pick her up for her 'safe' displaying only, as most of the details seem to be in the food! ;)

victorviper (1 month ago) #23078040I also display the AmiAmi postcards, as I've got an ancient fridge with various dings on the door, and the postcards help cover them up.
The details on Beelzebub's food items is really quite remarkable. In particular the apples and the corn are remarkably realistic.

I've never kept or displayed any so far. Hahaha about your dinged up fridge! I bet it looks cool now.

I'm not crazy for 18+ or even female figures but she does look great. I was surprised the food did too. I like the grilled squid best.

I really like all those interchangeable foods.
