Marking it off the list: Getting a figure you wanted.

Well I finally did it and managed to get an eroge series figure that I was thinking about getting on and off over the past year and it has me thinking about how long it took for me to actually get down to deciding on getting ITEM #209602 since I wanted to get her when she came out but didn't feel like paying the original price for it and it felt like she went up in price over the past year and today I managed to snag this one using best offer off ebay from a US Seller at a decent price and it makes me wonder if the wait was really worth it.

I'm happy to have gotten her for less than $120 with free shipping and I'll see this one going from anywhere from $130-$189 or more so I think the mental debate and right now I'm looking at my own list of figures that I'd like to get and it's a very small list right now and it feels good to have this marked off that list.

How long does it take for you to get a newly released figure?

Do you jump on it as soon as it's up for preorder or do you try to hold out to get it at a good price later?

Looking at the release times of figures as of late for what I've followed I am picking up newly released figures sometimes as soon as they come out depending on how focused I am on that figure.

Some items I don't bother looking at or getting if the price is too high when it comes out and the only time I'll pay attention to that is if there is a clearance sale or something like that when the price on said item drops to where it's within budget.

Currently I have been collecting Transformers and have been getting away from scaled figures since I don't have a lot of room for anything new but when I saw Mamiya pop up I had to grab her and once again I find myself getting slowly drawn back to wanting to pick up a few eroge/hentai series figures but to do that it will be back to scouring Mandarake for figures and it's damn hard to get away from looking at figures at times especially if I'm crazed to get one or two.

Still within budget just barely so that made this addition one of those things that reminds me to unplug at this point but I need to get out to check for the latest Transformers Titans Returns Deluxe Wave 5 that have just started to hit store shelves and I'm back in the old mental debate of collect Anime figures or Action figures and I really want to avoid having a huge list of figures so it's back to thinking about this.

I'm still surprised at myself for picking up Mamiya since I thought I had gotten finished with scaled figures for a while but as always I see something pop up at a decent price I end up going for it and doing the math and if it can be fit into my budget I'll grab it.

So the questions for this blog are these:

How long does it take for you to get a newly released figure?

Do you jump on it as soon as it's up for preorder or do you try to hold out to get it at a good price later?

Do you look at reviews/images to help you determine if it's going to be worth the price you pay for that figure?

Just started to actually buy the figures, I've been window shopping for years so I don't know? well when a new figure comes out I wait a bit for the price to drop or to get my budget ready but lately , I just want to preorder everything thing with my favourite characters on it.

I used to always preorder, but figure prices have really basically doubled in the past few years... So I buy preowned unless it's something exclusive that'll rise in price after release. It helps to have more time to truly consider if I want the figure (I have way too many impulse purchases from the past) and read reviews from people who received it already.

It really depend on multiple factors. Rule of thumb, do I love the character? For a preorder, if I have an ounce of doubt I put it on a wishlist and wait until the last day the preorder are open to know if I pull the trigger or not. For a figure already released I look at the other user pictures and review if there is one. If I still have doubt I leave it in the wishlist for about a year or so.

The thing is sometime I get caught in the hype and when the hype is gone, I don't really enjoy the figure as much. It happened to me and the amiibo (though that's what got me into figure collecting).

The price is also variable too. I normally search for a good deal, but even I have a limit to my patience, so I pulled the trigger up to almost 3 time the original price just because I was tired to look for it and I just wanted it in my collection already.

Just moved ITEM #397030 from my wishlist to ordered list.
Usually pics appear on the date it's orderable, enough info to decide.

Still a little new to this but my system is to watch a number of items on my wish list. 10-20% of them are auto pre-orders when they come up due to either being part of on going collections or just because the prototype looks great and I trust the company.

Others I'll wait for the colour prototype to pop up and consider it while weighing up cost and manufacturer. If it looks good, costs is within reason and I trust the manufacturer I'll pre-order, potentially as quickly as those aforementioned certain buys given colour pics are usually up a decent while before pre-orders open.

At the point we get colour pics is also when some items will drop off the wish list, while others will sit there till release. Certain items I'll just be on the fence about, while others I just can't trust how the final product will look. Those will wait till a release and some user pics/comments. Those are also the items I might just back burner and see if they bin/drop a little.

For me it depends really on the character and company that made it so like if something from GSC comes up I like I will more likely pre order it right away without any concern it might not end up looking good! If it's a company I don't know much about or never owned any figures I will rather wait until it's released to get actual pictures of it.

I was really glad I did it for ITEM #396601 because I think Bell Fine isn't really all that... fine (see what I did there?) A friend of mine bought her and I think she just feels more like a prize figure... So I was really glad that I waited instead of just pre ordered :)

I do sometimes wait for the after market to get it really cheap but sometimes it turns out the other way... I tend to always check on various sites if figures I wish for are available at a really good price and just go for it if I see it

I tend to pre-order most of my figures right away, especially if it's a character I really like that hardly have any figures.

I got into collecting scale figures pretty late since for a while I only collected nendoroid and figma but fortunately for me, my wish list for scales is still pretty small. I get figures on my wish list at my leisure while if there's a new figure I have to get, it automatically goes into pre-order.

I pre-order only my absolute favorites these days. Money isn't great right now so I only indulge once in a while, although I was big into buying things right away a few years ago. Instead of buying new clothes, shoes, or going out, I save for a figure or something else I want every so often.

I definitely do look at reviews and other people's thoughts before pre-ordering (or buying) although sometimes I do regret not buying things when they come out because the price goes up, haha.

blueberrywaifu (2 months ago) #23903023I always pre-order if it's a figure from a reputable company that I know I couldn't live without. I usually give myself a week to mull over if I truly have to have a figure. If I can't stop thinking about the figure and still want it badly by the end of the week, I place the pre-order. If it's from a company that I don't 100% trust or there's anything about the sculpt hat makes me hesitate, I take my chances and wait for user pictures. I have to be strict with myself, since I already have so many scales. ^^

I used to do preorders but since I collect a lot of other things it got to where it caused stress to have so much money tied up in the preorder so I had to abandon preordering things for a while and while it's nice to preorder especially if you can preorder at a site that you can cancel in case something comes up to affect your ability to pay for it I found that the only time I will preorder something as of late is if I know exactly when it's coming out and put it on preorder maybe a week before it's due to be out.

Space has been the limiting factor with keeping things in check here so I understand the strictness since there were times I had to have a stranglehold on my self if I thought of preordering something since there was very little space for new things.

I should be able to find space for Mamiya but after that I'm pushing my limits with anything new,won fes is going to be a great challenge and this year's Summer Won Fes will decide my fate as a Anime collector for the remainder of the year depending on what comes out.
