7th Dragon III Code: VFD Rune Knight by Vertex7th Dragon III Code: VFD Rune Knight by Vertex

This is more of a showcase rather than a true review. I will touch upon my thoughts about the figure periodically though.

Rune Knight is the most recent figure to come from the popular JRPG game 7th Dragon. There was quite a bit of concern when her painted prototype was first revealed from Vertex, and I'm happy to say that most of those worries were unfounded.

The figure itself has a great presence, though that does come with the downside of taking up quite a bit of room. Even though the base is relatively small, Rune Knight herself takes up a good deal of horizontal real estate. So she'll be a bit of a commitment for those using Detolf styled display cases.

The detail on her outfit is fantastic. With a number of companies nowadays not using distinguishing textures between outfit pieces, Vertex's work on Rune Knight was a pleasant surprise. You can clearly see the difference in fabrics and materials between the leg and arm covers, armor, straps and metal pieces. The only place where I felt these differences fell flat were on her ear tufts. But even that could have been a lot worse (we could have gotten the wormy little things Flare called ear tufts on their Lucier figure ITEM #190883 shudders)

Her mouth in particular was a major point of worry when her painted prototype was first shown. The paint on her upper lip being quite predominant, as you can see here: PICTURE #1531366

Upon release Vertex fixed this issue, lightening the color as well as scaling back the amount of paint used on her upper lip. My only nitpicky wish is that they had used a glossy paint on them.

Here you can see the connecting areas of her loincloth better. They did a pretty good job of making sure the piece connected with an illusion of seamlessness. As someone who doesn't display this figure as cast off I personally would have preferred the piece to be permanently attached for a smoother looking transition, but I think most people wouldn't even be able to tell that the piece comes off at all.

A rather glaring issue is that the back piece doesn't line up with her outfit. Of course, this likely doesn't matter if you display her cast off or from a front view. If you're the kind of collector that has a mirrored back on their display case then something like this could be deal breaking.

I'm going to leave you guys with a few more images showing the detail put into this figure.

To end with, if you're a 7th Dragon collector then Rune Knight is a must have for your collection. Aside from a few quirks mentioned above my only real issue with the figure is that her head is not in scale to the rest of the 7th Dragon group. She can be displayed with Miku or Psychic with relatively no issues, but the moment you put her next to Samurai, Hacker, or Fortuner it becomes painfully apparent that she has a 1/8th scale head on a 1/7th scale body.

By herself she's an absolutely gorgeous figure though.

Yes! There's quite a few 7th Dragon figures out now, so it's worth giving them a glance!
