RF-4EJ-ANM Phantom

*Not sure if these kind of review is allowed.. Considering this is primarily a figure site.. but yeah.. I'll just delete this if it's not allowed.*

A review of the completed Tomytec kit.

Girly Air Force RF-4EJ-ANM Phantom from the Dengeki Bunko Light Novel lineup:
Girly Air Force.

I really haven't read any of the novels but I would certainly love too.. If only I could read japanese.. ^^; or some group translates it..

The novel itself seems quite serious. The story revolves around a male protagonist name Kei Narutani.. whilst enduring humanity's war against an entity called "Zai." The Zai had bombarded various places in the world and has sent most of the people fleeing.. One time, Kei was in an escape flotilla heading for Japan and was being attacked by the Zai. Suddenly, a bright red plane somehow saves them. The plane got hit and had crashed landed in an island. Feeling indebted, Kei wanted to recover the pilot at least. He stumbles on the crash site. Instead of a pilot, he finds a pale looking girl with pink hair..unconscious in the cockpit of the jet..

(based on Google translate of reviews.. LOL)

Pretty much what's inside the box..

The 1/144 built pre-painted kit.. Like any other Tomytec Gimix kits, the parts are already painted whilst in the sprues... It just needs to be assembled.
The jet was designed by KuWa Frameout.

EPCM (?) Pod* (Electornic Perceptual Counter Measure Pod)... an electornic warfare equipment unique to Phantom..

A display pad of sorts... with an illustration of Phantom holding a 1/48 scale model of her airframe. Drawn by Asagi Toosaka. She's official illustrator/character designer for the novels.

The kit comes with 1/144 figures of Phantom. One in her casual dress & flight clothing.. I'd say these are tad too small... ^^;

Topside view of the jet..

Underside of the jet without the pod..
She's armed with 4xAIM-7M Sparrow Semi Active Radar Homing Missiles on the fuselage Recesses & 4xAAM-3 Infra-red Shortranged missiles at the inboard wing pylons.. and a pair of Fuel Tanks on the outboard pylons...

One thing to take note of are the "Thrust Vectoring" Nozzles of the J79 Turbojet Exhaust... :)

Vertical Tailfin.. I guess those things at the top and tailcone are advanced Electornic Warfare Antennas.. :)
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/pauldy1501928209.jpeg
Also take notice of the additional Vertical Stabilizers on the wings.. Guess it's one of the many enhancements to make this Phantom way more manueverable than the normal F-4s Phantoms...

Nose section.. perhaps that pointy structure aft of the nose cone is also an advanced Electronic Warfare antenna or so...

..with EPCM Pod attached & deployed..

One thing to note about Anima jets are their
strikingly bright colors and "hexagonal patterns"..
..iirc, each Anima have their own defining colors and patterns that signify linking with their respective airframes..

Also, notice the modified horizontal stabilizers.. also part of enhancing the aerodynamics i think... :)

Frontal view with a canopy that kinda reminds me of those advanced Ace Combat jets or certain Variable Fighters from Macross..

The Instruction Manual with schematics of Phantom, backstory of the novel(?) and background information of RF-4EJ-ANM(?)

The box.. I definitely like the boxart.. ^^

The Phantom on the display pad thing..

Indeed.. this kinda makes me look more of a poser, rooting for something that I have no complete grasp (yet) ...but I'm really wishing this Girly Air Force would get adapted into anime.. or at least the novels get translated..

After all, Modern Combat Aviation is what I really like..
So Girls x Modern Jets would be a definite love for me. :)
Of course, when this franchise gets figures and merchandise.. I'll definitely invest in it..

That's it for now.
Thanks again for reading~

OP, I'm an aviation fan, too. While I don't particularly enjoy the "improvements" they did on the airframe, I find it commendable that they're investing in something like this at all :D

Indeed I was kinda expecting people might be put off by this concept too..
Perhaps that's one of the reasons this novel isn't popular...
Dengeki tying this up with Tomytec could be one of their gambles promoting the title or something.. I guess it didn't worked...

WanderingWastrel (2 months ago) #24340955Wow, they make prepainted model kits now? As a kid I loved putting together model kits, but always knew if I tried to paint them I'd just ruin them. Nice to see they've solved that little problem.
Girly Air Force is also something I'd like to see turned into an anime.

Have a look at the Revell range. There are quite a few car models which need no painting. I don't know if you're into Star Wars, but they also have a lot of Star Wars models which come pre-painted.

Yes, Tomytec Gimix although certain Academy kits also come pre-painted already on sprues iirc..

Indeed painting is one of the more difficult phases in model kit building.. ^^
So I'm glad there are Tomytec versions of these jets..

As for Girly Air Force.. reality is kinda sad though.. as it seems the novel is not as popular as other Dengeki titles... ^^;
