What were your figure quality disappointments? What were your figure quality disappointments?

If you can't read the title: What were your figure quality disappointments? In other words, which figures turned out to be different than what you were expecting from the prototype and preview pictures? Was there anything about the preview pictures that you had a bad feeling about, and is there anything that you look for specifically?

I feel like a lot of preview pictures have slightly different coloring when it comes to hair colors besides black or brown. The lighting in some official pictures make the hair color appear light, but expo or user pictures seem to make it darker. One example is ITEM #549620. One of the few that I own right now also has this effect, but I prefer the darker coloring (low-key lewd alert): ITEM #375185 It's also definitely different figure-to-figure even if only slightly.

Feel free to interpret my question however you want. Similar but not what I intended would be stuff that has to do with quality control like paint transfer/errors or the manufacturer (Alter vs. Griffon/Pulchra lol).

To be honest, I haven't had too many disappointments with quality. Sometimes when I have opened the shipping box the figure came in and saw the figure personally, I have not liked it and put it up for sale soon after. The only quality I have been disappointed in is figures from Bandai, especially the S.Figuarts Sailor Moon line.

Every Play Arts Kai figure I have owned were disappointments. Not bad figures but nowhere near the quality or paint detail that the prototypes displayed.

Based on the figures I own, ITEM #75030 is the most disappointing one. I have been collecting Kotobukiya's Shunya Yamashita Bishoujo line for years. In the first years of that line, I was so obsessed about collecting every figure from it. I like the design of Mystique and the Yamashita version was a must have for me. As soon as I get her, I realised the weirdness of her eyes. There is something wrong with them. There are no problem with her prototype pictures but the final figure is problematic. Also her base was another disappointment because almost every other figure from that line has some unique bases but she just have a clear plastic base. Another thing is, her head is removable without any reason since she is not a cast-off or doesn't have any extra parts. If you remove her head, under her hair, there is no hand which looks creepy. picture/346180&... It is not a very bad figure, but I think she is one of the worst figures from that line and the most disappointing figure in my collection. But I still like her, she doesn't look so bad from a distance.

I was disappointed on the lack of Griffon jokes, I think I only saw one =P
Ah, my personal disappointment was Good Smile's Yuzuriha Inori ITEM #78618 (it was quite a hot topic back then), mainly for her weird yellowish jaundice skin color and how undersized she was at 1/8 scale (It felt like 1/10). But, despite her flaws her value shot up because there aren't any better Inori figures out there.

I'd say ITEM #397045 but I didn't have my hopes up in the first place. She is certainly impressive, but they did a very poor job with the clear plastic parts of her suit. You can clearly see glue through it. Some of the black parts look a bit cheap too.

If the quality control was better she would be well worth the small fortune she costs.

ITEM #331203 is both the most expensive figure I have and yet the one with the most paint flaws. I don't regret getting her because well it's Mash, but now I am very worried Ishitar and Jeane Alter will both be pretty riddled with flaws.

Best comment.

For me atm, I'm super pissed that I preordered a Hatsune Miku prize from furyu, but they changed the prototype before it was finally released. I ordered it, despite never pre ordering prizes before, because the dress was removable for a swimsuit underneath- then they changed it so you can't remove it. They also changed the hair color. I never heard of a prize being revised before its official release, but it really pissed me off and I'll never pre order a prize again

(I'm complaining over 2000 yen lol)

What I think of isn't really a disappointment.

When I preordered Stardust I loved the prototype photos of her.
But then these wonfes photos were online, the blues and golds were warmer toned.

I became worried. However, when she was mailed to me months later she looked like the cooler toned prototype photos. I don't even know.

Either way she's one of my favorites I own, but my expectations became different because of the wonfes photos. So I was saved from disappointment, really, it's the opposite of what you asked lol.
