Greetings, MFC!

freshringofreshringo2 months agoDiary
Greetings, everyone! I decided to start writing in my blog to connect with more of the lovely users on this site as well as to have a personal space to talk. (´ ∀ ` *) Everyone in this community seems so welcoming, helpful, and kind to one another. I hope to become friends with many of you! (´• ω •`)ノ

Here’s the story of how I began collecting figurines! I’d love to hear how others began collecting in the comments as well!
✪ ✪ ✪
I recently visited Japan in September 2017. Before I left on my trip, I visited an anime hobby shop in Los Angeles and saw this beautiful Phat! Shiro figurine in a display case! I took a lot of pictures of her, wishing I could have brought her home, but she wasn’t for sale. It was the first time I thought seriously about buying a figurine!

A week later, I found myself in Akihabara facing the same Shiro figurine! Thinking it must be fate (or something equally flimsy to rationalize my expensive purchase), I grabbed her right away, along with a Phat! Jibril. After getting back to America, I did some research on figurines and collecting. I’m a bit regretful and embarrassed to say that I purchased Shiro pre-owned, without a box, for well over her average market price! Not to mention she had a re-release announced already... ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ It was a beginner’s blunder but I’ve gotten much smarter since then! (ง •̀_•́)ง

When I got back to America and researched figurine collecting a bit more, I got really interested in it! There were so many beautiful works of art, and it felt good to have a hobby to pursue. Before I started collecting, I honestly felt like collecting figurines was a huge waste of money. But now, every time I see my collection, it bring me a lot of happiness. Many of them have special meaning to me because of the character or the circumstances under which I acquired them (like a great deal or nabbing the only one left in a store!), and they’re all just really, really pretty to look at!

I'm kinda late, but welcome anyway :)
You got quite a collection already. It took me like a year to get that many. Nice display too. I hope you'll find your enjoyment in collecting.

Thank you! I hope you get to go. ^^ I stayed in Tokyo for two weeks, which gave me just enough time to explore everywhere on my list but was short enough that I wish I could have stayed longer! If you do end up going, I'm happy to give you some tips on fun things to do!

Welcome.

Thanks that nice of you. The tips will indeed be useful when I'm ready to travel.

Welcome and you are building a really nice collection.

This is indeed the best feeling a collection can give. The hunt for a figure is part of the fun too. And sometimes the stories are as special as the figure itself. Have fun hunting and collecting.

You have a great collection so far. I'm hoping to make it to Japan before 2020 and hope I can go for two weeks.

I also discovered pre-orders! It's really exciting whenever I see updates on new figurines haha. But it's also pretty easy to pre-order too much since some sites don't make you pay upfront... T_T;;

I was a huge collector growing up! I had tons of Pokemon and Yugioh cards (didn't even play the card games, just liked collecting the cards and looking at them). I also went through phases of collecting random things like marbles, postage stamps, and Beanie Babies :P

I try to stick to scale figures because Nendoroids and figmas would absolutely destroy me and my wallet! There are just too many hahaha

Thank you! Yes, it's very strong, I even dreamed about buying figurines for a while! I will be sure to post more updates as it grows! (*´∇`*)

Thank you! It was the same for me, I have a rule that I only buy figurines of characters/series that I have watched and liked! It helps me from buying every pretty figurine out there (=´∀`); Although sometimes I see a really nice figurine of an unfamiliar character so I watch the anime they're from just to try and justify buying it...
