Hi everyone. Thanks for clicking.

I just got one of my grail - ITEM #283099 today, and I have zero remorse for my purchase. She looks cuter and more perfect than any pictures of her I found beforehand. But she does has a noticable problem:

As you can see, there are significant portions of blue paint/tint on her right leg and right foot, where it shouldn't be. I'm not sure if her black fabric fishnet stockings are causing this, but I could not think of other theories. Although her legs is removable, her stockings isn't. They are glued on the base of her stockings.

I've used x-acto knives to remove unwanted paints on my other figures' skin portions, but with her I either would have to risk messily destroying her fishnets, or forcifully cut off her fishnet from leg base, somehow reattach it after cleaning, and live with a obviously imperfect fishnet of her from now on. Either way sounds undesirable.

Are there other possible ways to resolve these paint tints? I am worried about chemical ways would dissolve paint in her fishnet and make things worse. Owners of fishnet figurines, does this ever happen to you and how did/would you solve it? Owners of Skytube and especially Skytube limited figures, does such QC issue happen often? This is only my second purchase of a Skytube figure and first time owning figures with fishnets.

She is a Skytube 1/6 scale limited to 200 pieces in new condition, and this is the last item her Amazon.co.jp seller offers. Not sure if I can return, but it would be a huge hassle on money and time. I can only imagine Alphamax does not answer to problems about event limited figures, but I can try.

If you can offer any suggestion on removing these unwanted paint, or on this situation, it would help me greatly. Thank you in advance.

Update:
These dye stains are indeed caused by her fishnet stocking, as both legs has serious stain underneath their (IDK how to call it) parts:

Now I'm concerned that even if I managed to remove the stains it would eventually stain again...

Tsumikiria (5 months ago) #30624352Well it was quite a pain for me to chose between her two versions. Both are adorable indeed so I might get the white version too. But as an ardent lover of figures with black stockings feet and legs the fact that I have to watch it deteriorate and live with it annoys me no end.
But thanks tho.

I get it. I think I prefer black stockings over white myself. I actually had another figure with black fabric stockings. They also stained the legs, but the stockings weren't fishnet, so you couldn't even tell.

hughjazz44 (5 months ago) #30570912If I were you, I'd just get over it. I don't think there's anything you can do that won't somehow ruin the figure.
You could always get the white version. :3 Mine doesn't have any staining.

Looking at this figure it looks like sadly there's nothing you can do as it looks like the stockings are fastened to her, I had this dye issue with my FREEing 1/4 Satellizer where it bleeds into the paint. If they're removable then I would suggest giving them a wash in warm washing powdered water for about 5 mins, this helps to remove the dye that will bleed but again if they are not removable then I'm afraid you're stuck. As for getting the dye of the paint, I've tried numerous things on my Satellizer and none have worked, such as magic eraser, mouth wash, hot soapy water etc. The only thing left is nail varnish remover which I have been told will work but will also strip the gloss and the paint as Acetone is very strong, so I don't want to attempt that. This is an issue that plagues all figures with stockings and sadly no one has seem to come up with a solution yet.

sharuuri (6 months ago) #29894057i have the same with my Haruhi figure << ITEM #72 >> ;; i'd too like a solution..

Even Freeing can't escape this misake it seems, but it was released in 2007, really quite some time ago... Guess It's generally advisable to avoid product from companies inexperienced with real stockings/fishnets.

HanaNoNamida (6 months ago) #29988608I have the same issue with my ITEM #13833.
I haven't found the way to fix it, but I managed to align the stains with the threads, so they don't stand up so much...

Sounds like it was fortunately some light stains. Would you care to provide pictures? Aligning threads no longer helps mine since she got a big bruise on right knee and very large portion of her right leg noticably covered in blue tint. She must've stored too long with really excessive dyes.

ponnie (6 months ago) #29930779You need a certain skill for this kind of repair, indeed. If you don't feel like doing it yourself, your best bet is finding a garage kit artist who could help you with that. Not anyone would work with PVC, though.
Also if you don't want to ruin her original legs you can order a recast copy from a recast-store-that-can't-be-linked and work with that (PM me for link, open links for such sites are forbidden here). It's pre-order now, though, so might be literally years before they make another batch.

I know that site, and I saw her page. Still, it's unlicensed and unauthorized recast so I'd rather not to. Plus I don't have the space necessary to work on GK. I'd rather work on a standard version of her.(white stockings so it may be less stained), or just return her and take my chances buying another copy of her.(assuming that I can return her)

I also don't know how to find a GK artist who takes commissions on fixing PVC, nor I can trust them fixing her without making it too conspicuous... Guess I have to settle on a recast copy then, or just leave her as-is and watch her get stained more over time...

Tsumikiria (6 months ago) #29929275Wow I didn't expect this... Not sure if it's a manufacture defect or just manufacturer's short-sightedness. Given her limited status, and 2 years has passed after her release, I doubt the remaining 3 copies of her on Amazon.co.jp would be free from the same issue. Sounds like a gamble.
Seems like I need to completely remove her stockings, remove stains or do a repaint of her legs, fix dye leaking of her stockings or just give her new, better quality ones. I'm really not sure the end result would turn out to be good or natural looking. I've just been into this hobby for a month. Totally didn't expect things like this.

adrikyn (6 months ago) #29920832Sounds like they don't color lock the stockings before they put them on. I really don't get why companies won't just do that...

It seems to be more of a result of manufacturer's shortsightedness than a defect in manufacture. Her original version has white stockings so it may leak less and didn't seem to be a problem. And since she was released 2 years ago I doubt Alphamax would be responsible. But I don't know what else to do...
