Rajke (1 month ago) #30896273Great review. It is a shame that Pochaco has many flaws. The design and her facial expression (that is one of this figures strongest points) are good enough to make an outstanding figure of her. I couldn't agree more about her gatherbelts: they are a mess. The funny thing about this figure are indeed both beer pull. Both can't be tapped in the same way but it is a funny detail and i can see the humor in that. Her hair coloring is well done till i saw those two spots that chipped off.
One off topic question: How is the quality of the tanned Sonico made by Wing?

I think you've hit it on the head. The design of the figure is quite good, it's just the fine details that are lacking, although this means Pochaco looks just fine from across the room!

That Wing Sonico is okay. I might take some photos and do a review of that figure sometime this week, but the main points would be something like this:

Good: Body sculpt, and the tan lines actually look nice and they are fairly realistic looking.
Bad: The base is really ugly (and it's huge, too!) and her hair is kind of weird-much more purple that is the norm for Sonico and the hair also looks sort of plasticky.

CaptainZ (1 month ago) #30827298I think at ¥13,800 retail the term is justified, but if you love the character and outfit It's none of my business how one spends their money it was just an observation.

I agree that it's a function of price. I definitely would not have been complementary had I shelled out 13800 yen for this figure.

I sort of knew that this this figure had some issues, and so it was all about getting it at the right price.

Bah-Roo (1 month ago) #30818625Nice review; quick and snappy, to the point and giving fair criticism. While I do love this figure in concept, it's not a Pochaco I would ever buy --- too many small flaws (I don't think I ever noticed them before, but those garterbelts ...yikes!!) and a few niggling concerns proportion wise. This may sound picky, but I find her bust too large in comparison to the rest of her body. I've come to know Pochaco as a "thicccccc" girl, and while there are some really great elements to the sculpt (the butt, the thighs) all and all she just doesn't look big enough. Go big or go home. What I'm trying to get at here is either the sculpt should have made her bust smaller, to match everything else, or made her "everything else" larger to match the bust.
It's a shame because "cute busty barmaid serving up fresh cold beers!!!!1" is an A+ (HAW HAW) concept. Also, I'd still rank this Pochaco as one of my favs on the market, even if I don't want to own it. Lol. If A+ ever re-released this (dream on) I'd appreciate if they upped the quality control as well as perhaps revisiting the sculpt just a tiiiinnyyyyy bit. To meet MY very specific request. Pls and thx. Chop chop A+ !!!!! :^P
One thing your review brought to my attention is the base. It's tacky, but a good kind of tacky. It's a sweet and simple design, tying into the beer theme.
Also, I learnt something new today; magnetic cast off! Never realised this was a thing :O
It seems like they payed a bit more attention to the cast off technicalities rather than the quality control of what was under that skirt, lol.
Anyway, long comment over now. Thanks for the review!!

I agree that the base is tacky, but appropriate.

Just for fun, I got out the tape measure to see the measurements of Pochaco's bust and waist. I measure them at about 7.25 in and 5.25 in respectively, and since Pochaco is 1/5.5-ish in scale, that would translate to about a 40 inch bust and a 29 inch waist. Canonically, they are supposed to be 42 and 31 inches respectively, so her measurements are fairly close to the mark, if a little on the slim side. Maybe she just started a New Year's diet :).

If you like Pochaco, this figure is inexpensive enough these days that she'd be worth a purchase. 6000 yen for a 1/5.5 figure is not really a bad deal, even with the QC issues. Since A-Plus is a small company and Pochaco isn't getting as much attention as she used too these days, I'd say the odds of a re-release are pretty much nil.

There's a long reply to your long comment :).

CaptainZ (1 month ago) #30803499How do companies put out such shoddy work and stay in business?

In fairness, while the quality of the figure is a little substandard in areas, those problems are balanced out by some things that were done well, and so "shoddy" might be too strong of a term.

I'll leave that term for nightmare-inducing items like ITEM #19445 or ITEM #19796. Figures like that can (and did!) put a company out of business...
