Dakimakura Quest(ions)Dakimakura Quest(ions)

Sorry if this isn't allowed; from my understanding on the blog guidelines, it's shop-specific questions that aren't allowed, but I could be wrong.

Can anyone give me some info on buying dakimakura covers?
I'm from the UK and looking for covers of male characters*.
I'm on a bit of a budget and don't really want to wait two months for shipping, but my attempts with google have only yielded a couple of sites that have a very limited art selection. Does anyone have any specific store recommendations or any tips on buying dakimakura cases in general?

I'm not interested in 18+ cases so I'm not worried about import laws or anything (see reason below). I also know a local place that does pretty decent 150cm pillows for £10, so I'm not worried about that either.

*If I could I'd just get Nekopara or LL cases or something, but I live with family members that would question me.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you don't mind doujin covers, Toranoana stocks some male covers, but they generally take around a month to ship out.

Most dakimakuras are sold on a pre-order basis anyhow, similar to how figures are, but you can still find dakis on secondhand sites like Mandarake.

Edit: Also, I've seen some male covers on Booth, although Booth covers tend to sell out quickly. When you search you'd have to filter the sold out covers.

ffenris (8 months ago) #31120654Official covers of male characters are way fewer than those of female characters, by a massive margin. If the covers you're interested in are not available via the standard routes like Hobby Search or AmiAmi, you can look into using a proxy to order from stores like Animate or Getchu or what have you. If you're looking at suspiciously cheap peachskin covers, those are 99.99% bootlegs, please don't enquire about them on here. You would typically expect to pay between 9000 to 15000 yen for an original daki, depending on the material, run etc (rough rules of thumb would be 9k for a basic polyester smooth knit, 10-13k for company (non-doujin) 2-way tricot covers, 11-15k for doujin 2-way tricot covers).

I was thinking more in the vein of secondhand, doujin or UK/EU reseller than bootleg to be honest, haha. Regular shopping sites like amiami and hobbysearch are typically sold out of characters that I actually care about. Trying to sift through all the girl pillows on Mandarake is a nightmare. They used to run a lot cheaper on secondhand jp sites, but I guess I missed the boat or something :/

delpha (8 months ago) #31120644You might be able to find some fan-made ones on etsy.
You could also probably find an experienced artist willing to make a custom one as a commission.
That's about all I really know, though. I wish you luck in your search!

I've found some pretty nice-looking ones on Esty, but they only ship from Russia! I'm pretty much keeping that one as a last resort, haha. Thank you, though!
