Figure TragediesFigure Tragedies

So I was interested in hearing some of your figure tragedies. Whether it's about something being lost in the void of mail, damages, accidents, etc share with me your woes.

For me, it's knowing that I have 3 figures that are currently MIA. There's a slim chance I may still find them but I actually didn't realize they were missing until I started putting my collection back together after I moved countries. T__T One of them is pretty expensive these days so I'm really heartbroken. How about you guys?

♥♥ I have two sad figure stories (and i'm hoping to never have one again knock on wood).

My first sad figure story is when I broke the stand for a Sailor Moon figure I had bought at Hot Topic. I was so sad because she was so cute and I tried to glue it together but when that failed I just taped it up. Couldn't look at it anymore because it was distracting me so much. And to top it all off, I broke the pegs that were on her feet so now she couldn't even stand on her base! Luckily, I bought a replacement for her so now i'm extra careful when it comes to handling her.

Another tragic figure story is when I bought this cute Super Sonico figure that's been on my list for ages. Got her at a good price and when she arrived I was overjoyed. But when I opened the package I found the headband on her headphones where broken. The seller didn't package her well enough to protect her from any damage during shipping. I ended up gluing those pieces back together but I did such a poor job that they still look pretty bad on her. :/♥♥

I had taken my IBRS nendoroid (ITEM #113043) out to photograph in this little park in the spring. The trees were blooming, the weather was nice. I was very careful with her, and I got some lovely photos with her...

It wasn't until I got back to my apartment, that I realized... her entire right arm was gone.

For those of you who don't know--and for some reason I never understood--when GSC made this nendoroid they didn't give her the usual peg-join that connects her shoulder to the torso. It seemed rather experimental. What it offered in movement range, it apparently lacked in strength to stay in place, much to my chagrin.

I checked the bag I was carrying her in. I memorized the route I had taken to that park and back, trying so hard to find it for ages. She had her arm in the photos! But I ended up giving up hope of ever finding it...

I have been debating on buying a whole 'nother one to make up for it for ages.

The worst figure story I have (luckily I don't have to many) is about three years ago when I was still new to collecting and only had about 11 or 12 figures I was still learning about putting figures together so being the "I don't need directions, I can do it without looking!" fool that I was, I made a big mistake. ಠ╭╮ಠ

FYI Please always read the directions, trust me. ಠ‿↼ ☆

Anyway, so the figure was the Sword Art Online Asuna Kotobukiya figure ITEM #126835. So I was putting her together and she looked great! The last thing I had to do was put the sword on, well when I took it out of the plastic the hilt was separated from the blade and it wouldn’t stay in when I pushed it so I was literally about to cry because I thought it was broken and without reading anything I immediately got the glue and filled the peg hole with it. I was shoving the blade part into the hilt for about an hour but the blade part kept falling out. Eventually the glue completely dried and that’s when I finally watched an unboxing video of the figure...Well it wasn’t broken; I just had to push the blade piece with a lot of force, not glue.

I kept her for years after that but her sword was really annoying so when me and my family moved this year I was going to get rid of her but I couldn’t sell her because she was broken and I didn’t want to throw her away because she was 75 bucks so I pulled her head off then my dog jumped up and chewed her face off, I threw her away then. I was going to make a necklace with her head..(╥﹏╥)

WanderingWastrel (7 months ago) #33808111It was early morning, the kind of morning where the sun isn't up yet but for some damn reason I was. My head was pounding from the lack of sleep, though I had lain on the bed most of the night. My brain refused the solace of unconsciousness, determined that I pay in full for whatever my latest transgression might have been, though damned if I knew what it was.
I was sitting bleary-eyed at the computer, checking email to see what fresh accusations and dispersions upon my character were being made. Suddenly a dull thunk sound came from the other room. The spare room, where most of my figure collection was, along with the closet full of figure boxes. It wasn't a sound that should be, not a sound that was normal, even in the old apartment building where the transition from settling to falling apart was well under way.
I thought of ignoring the sound, but images of someone breaking in through the window or tunneling through the drywall from the apartment next door filled my sleep-deprived brain. So I grabbed both my cane and my snub-nosed revolver, the one required and the other just in case, and lurumped my way down the hall. I stuck both my nose and the snub-nose 'round the corner, dreading what might be found in the room.

This was an incredibly suspenseful and tragic story. The band is not complete without everyone but... It's so sad that everyone had to go T_T Goodbye K-On! You will live in our hearts even if you're not in WaderingWastrel's display.

nekosasuke (7 months ago) #33812449One of my cats knocked my Azusa k-on nendo off of my bookcase a couple of times and nothing had happened those times but then the final time Azusa hit the floor and in the process her neck joint snapped so it looked like she got beheaded. Most of the neck joint was stuck inside her head cause itd broke right at the neck, so to fix it I got my dad to pull it out with pliers and I replaced it by pulling out one of her other face neck joints and putting it in the one that had none now (so I could use the same face I was already using with a new joint since with older nendos you have to change the head to change the face). Luckily that nendo was already a prev preowned opened item and not one of my brand new/more expensive nendos or I wouldve been more upset about it but it was easily fixed..and I moved her to a safer place where she doesnt fall on the floor.
Freaking cats!!! I introduced my cats to my figure the first time and it seemed like it was going well... Until one of them decided to have a taste and tried to chomp the head of ITEM #287697 I screamed and stopped her just in time...
Glad you go to fix your nenod though, Azusa's nendo is so cute and precious I kind of want her too T_T

eviljackspicer (7 months ago) #33812886I guess it was dealing with assembling a model from Kotobukiya. While turning a joint, one of the pegs snapped and I had to fix with with super glue.
This is exactly why I can't do any assembly models. I am so credibly paranoid and I feel like if anything goes wrong, I'll go insane.

Lysiere (7 months ago) #33817167Madoka, my dear Madoka, one of my favorite scales ITEM #166616; which had a place of honour on my shelf.
I guess that I can say that I’m a little bit too obsessive with cleaning & tidying since our beloved figures are expensive. I make sure that every little soul in my room is safe from everything, from dust to zombie apocalypse (ok, I may exaggerate for this one).
But one day it happened : while checking if everything was in order (not a long time after receiving her of course; otherwise, it wouldn't be funny), her arrow was suddenly missing. I hadn’t done the housework yet (aka vacuum cleaner), so it was obviously somewhere on the ground! But I was unable to find it… I had looked for it around 2 weeks before giving up.
And then, when I finally checked MFC, I learnt that for once, GSC was not offering a replacement for this part despite a lot of people being in the same situation since the arrow wasn't steady at all.
Infinity not so magical tears.
I know it's all my fault for not having been attentive enough & that it's not even a big deal compared to other tragedies, but I'm still really, really sad when I think about it.
I wholeheartedly hope that you will be able to find your missing figures Emeep, don't lose hope & give up *fingers crossed* !

That's terrible, you'd think that is such an obvious piece for GSC to replace but oh well... Maybe they had to replace too many? When you vacuumed were you thinking, "GOODBYE LITTLE ARROW" because that's tragic as heck. I am hoping it's still in one of the boxes at my parents home but they told me they don't think there are any extra boxes T_T I'm still going to go check it out when I get the chance.

Elise_Grimwald (7 months ago) #33808017My figure tragedies are losing my Aoba nendoroid's little controller. She fell off my shelf, and is fine, other than her controller went MIA. I searched everywhere. :/. And of course, that was the pose I wanted to use.
I also had my Mega Drive prize figure fall off my shelf, and her foot broke off. Luckily, I was able to glue her back together, but I was seriously upset. She was hard to find to start with, and now she's really hard to find. And went up in price.

The feeling of losing a piece of a figure is so horrible, I get incredibly paranoid about it. Do you think you can get a replacement piece for it?

Testament (7 months ago) #33803876About my poor Belial ITEM #212495:
Mine arrived... destroyed by postal "accident" with mechanical transport vehicle T________T.
For them, btw, after inspection the content was intact.
Maybe our definition of "intact" differs a bit.

Those pictures are horrifying. I have no idea why they would think that would be considered intact, they need a god damn dictionary and learn what that word means...

AveragePerv (7 months ago) #33805032It was about Iriza ITEM #227088
The tragedy was very simple, yet my fault, once i recieved and because i do not inspect the box in the arrive(some fixing was happenig in the house) only 3 weeks after, the replacement part of the boobs were missing.... the figure was incomplete yet completely sealead and undamaged box.... i put a disclaimer but i do not obtain a replace.....

I can't help but wonder how QC completely missed the fact that a part of her friggin' breasts are missing. Isn't that one of the main selling points!?

BVibes (7 months ago) #33806981One time the post delivered my EMS package to my neighbor, left it on their door step, and then signed it themselves under my name. When I filed a complaint they told me "well our records show it was delivered to your house so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯". They also claimed they didn't sign using my name but it's right there on the tracking like it always has been (they have signed before 'for me' and it showed their name for the signature).
Thankfully it worked out and I got my figures (got it from the neighbors' porch and left a note since they weren't home) but I trust the post even less now.
Otherwise one time I was cleaning ITEM #261527 , and when I put her back on the shelf the whole thing toppled off and she broke off her base once she hit the floor. Luckily the figure itself was perfectly fine and she still can stand up on the base, but part of the peg is stuck in her shoe. I never plan to sell her but I still think about it when I see her. :/

I completely know what you mean. It's like when you get a scratch on a new thing you got and maybe it's not noticeable at first glance but you know it's there... haunting you....

yurirainbowz (7 months ago) #33807497the most recent one is i was moving ITEM #287068 to another shelf and the strawberry fell into an a/c vent and is lost forever now ;n;
....... Wow that's incredibly unfortunate... Be free little strawberry T_T

Heldrik (7 months ago) #33807868One of the first scale figures I bought (the second, if my memory serves me well) was ITEM #938 in 2008.
Despite the clear stake having a grif to hold Natsuki's leg and supposedly prevent the girls from leaning too much, I quickly found that it was kinda useless. In less than a year, it was leaning so much that it almost looked like Natsuki sprained her ankle really bad.
It was past the point of no-return, basically at breaking point. So I decided, with regret and loathingly, to get rid of it, since there was no way to sell something like that.
To this day, I am still not really proud of what I have done, but i keep telling me it was the "best" thing to do.

F... When you love something.. You have to know when it's time to let it go... T__T Ah, leaning is so scary... I haven't had a single one lean yet but it's always on the back of my mind.

But I didn't see a thing, even after I turned on the light. Nothing seemed out of place, no broken windows, no crazy neighbors thrusting rusty knives at me through the wall. No giant mutated rats on a cheese run; no rabies-infested beavers gnawing on the posts of the spare bed.

Must have been the neighbor's victims trying to escape or somethin', I thought with my barely-awake brain. I started to turn, to go back to start to prepare for another day at work, another day of listening to the last little bits of my soul screaming as they slowly but surely died as I sat in my office, waiting for others to complete their work so I would have something to do.

But that turn wasn't completed. Because my eye fell upon the source of the sound, there in the acrylic box that held the beautiful figures of the After School Tea-Time band. The Alter versions, of all the main characters of K-On!, playing on their instruments, arranged as they would be on stage.

Except for Mio ITEM #13319 . Mio, my Mio. She was not standing, no, not anymore. She had fallen, fallen, fallen. Flat on her back, having barely missed Mugi's keyboard in her trajectory, she was down.

Quickly putting the revolver and cane aside, I raised the top of the box, and fished out the Mio figure and her stand, both separated now. Instantly the fault was apparent -- the pegs on her foot had sheared off even with the bottom of her shoes, with the broken off parts still imbedded in the stand. The plastic pegs had finally failed from the figure's unbalance. One foot alone was not enough, over time, to sustain her.

I put the figure down on the spare bed, and put the box lid back on. I went on to work, heart lower than usual that thrice-cursed day.

Later attempts to repair failed. I thought of getting another Mio figure as replacement, but... wouldn't the same thing happen again? Why bother? Should I keep the band without Mio? No, unthinkable. I disposed of the other figures for what I could get. All, or none; if it could not be all, then none it was.

I'd say a little bit of me died that day, but that happened every day I was still employed, so that's mostly unremarkable.

Ah, Mio.
